  1. I have not read every reply so forgive me if this has been mentioned. I tried to think of the simplest solution possible (and one that hopefully wont require too much programming) Warp Beacon: Instead of coming out at a specific location its a general location. So you emerge at random anywhere within a 200km diameter. Building in that space is not possible (for immersion we can say that warp beacons emit an anti gravity pulse that pushes stations away). Anyway, so far, I have found Alioth to be the most dangerous place in DU. All of the random crap just floating around. I mean containers at 1000m just floating there and random blocks from constructs or towers that players have tried to remove.
  2. Thanks. I'm getting better at it. I also try and enter over a body of water in case I stuff up
  3. My small core had 4 large atmo and 3 large space engines. Getting into space (from Alioth) with a full large container was really easy. Landing on Alioth with a full load was much more difficult (totalled my ship 3 times).
  4. Thank you to Haunty above for the contribution. I have completed my space station so can now answer some of the questions myself in the hopes it assists others. CORE: Yes, we need a space core and yes the core effects gravity direction. My suggestion for your 1st station is to ensure the arrow is above the core and that the core is above the planet so that the gravity of the planet matches the gravity of core. So, then if we build the landing platform between outer space and the planet gravity will assist landing. So, gravity will pull us down onto the landing pad. What happens to my ship whilst I'm building or placing the core: A kind soul in support chat told me to log out and back in again so my ship would remain stationary. Then I placed the core whilst standing on my ship. Once the core is placed, we can go into build mode so we can move around the build area freely. My ship stayed in place whilst I built and when I was half done I just used the move tool to place the ship. Its hard to believe that the Devs planned for us to log out to get the ship to remain stationary. Somebody in chat said maybe the remote control or emergency control could be used for this purpose (if you want full immersion). ORBIT: So, the core and therefore the station does not orbit the planet (you dont even need to place them anywhere near a planet). Space Stations are stationary objects. A Space Core behaves just like a Static Core. I'm telling you this because I originally thought they had to be orbiting a body. PREPERATION: Make sure you take a Space Core with you (obviously) and its a good idea if you carry enough materials to build a basic landing pad. I just used my personal transport (no container) and my suit had enough room for a small core and honeycombe for landing pad.
  5. Ensure you have your suit selected as main(fuel wont work from a container) Ensure you suit has been emptied.
  6. Hi There, I'm about to make my 1st attempt at building a space station. I have a few questions and I thought if a few people contribute ideas then the thread might serve to help others as well. 1) I assume I will need a space core. I have begun crafting a small one. 2) I watched a tutorial apparently if the arrow is on top then the artificial gravity will pull down (as if its trying to pull the arrow through the block). 3) I have a major concern. So, what happens to my ship when I'm floating in space placing the core and building. Wont my ship fall and smash into the planet below? 4) With ship building, the direction of the core arrow points to the front of the ship. Does the arrow direction matter for a station? 5) Do I need to have landing gear to land on a space station?
  7. The way its been setup seems to be designed to make fights last a long time. So, players cant insta lose their ship. Node timer is one way to tackle your unstated issue. Other ways include. No repairs in space or a timer on repairs. EG. a repaired engine cant be repaired again for 10 mins Or, XS core = maximum respawn 2 small core = 4 medium = 10 etc.
  8. Thanks for the heads up. A consequence of a huge safe zone, unfortunately.
  9. Well, thanks for the reply. Sort of used to it living in Australia. Most games update during our prime time. Its just more annoying with DU because the downtime is so frequent.
  10. You are probably aware but I'll mention anyway that the centre mass lines are visible in build mode
  11. If the servers are going to be down on an almost daily basis is there any chance the down time could be varied a bit. Its right smack in the middle of prime time here.
  12. I asked the horse directly but it declined a detailed answer. Every question was answered neigh
  13. Speeder type vehicles are probably the most dangerous vehicles in the game simply because the chance of hitting a building or something that just pops in is high. Once you get a ship and start flying things will improve a great deal. You can join more than one organisation. So, its probably worth joining at least one straight away. Might help give you a purpose in the game.
  14. I purchased a repair unit today. I installed it and clicked "F" to activate it and got the message "repair units are disabled on the server" Are they actually disabled? Or is it just me?
  15. Combat implies your opponent also has a gun. In many cases the correct term would be slaughter. That said 'm all for combat but in this game they have PvP instead
  16. Hmm, the shape of the ship should not affect acceleration, braking or handling at all in space. However weight should affect it (although not top speed) As far as rotation goes. A lighter weight would be easier to rotate but having the adjusters further out would also help ..... but keeping the majority of the weight near the centre would also help. Soooooooo, I think the most maneuverable ship would have a very large cross section but have the majority of its weight at the centre. Like your slim ship with long arms extending out with adjustors on the end. Since the aiming is done by computer, they really should never miss, unless we change speed or maneuver whilst the enemy projectiles are in flight. I really thought this was going to be the benefit of lasers.
  17. Your right, I did miss your point, sorry. As for the brakes, thats why I was saying that ships would be covered in brakes. So they can stop in a short distance. ie. hit the safe zone doing 30k and then have enough brake power to stop in the safe zone.
  18. I cant get anything I build to be the same distance either side of the centre anyway. Maybe I should start using L cores, I might improve
  19. I want PvP but I am not interested in piracy. I'm interested in War. Currently I cant see a reason for War. There does not seem to be any territory or resource vital enough to defend .... yet
  20. Some cool ideas in there. Material colour could be used to counter heat radiation. For example polished metalic (silver like) radiate less heat than say matte black.
  21. Yeah me too. Dont worry, I'm sure they will add time onto our accounts whilst we cant play
  22. Interesting idea. I feel that it would make pretty much every player very hard to find. Most players work on being at full speed b4 they leave safe space. So, the entire trip in open space will not require any engine heat. That would mean that the only chance for detection would be when players are slowing down. This will (I think) result in cargo ships being absolutely covered in brakes. It will increase the importance of space only ships that would be maximum size that the core will allow and the entire surface will be brakes. Not sure if thats a bad thing or not. Some people currently dont like the cube fighters, so, it might be an issue for some.
