Evil_Porcupine got a reaction from Lethys in youtubers and their orgs
IMO most orgs built around worshiping one or a small number of people wont work, simply because they:

    1) are unlikely to be organised at all times, so wont be very effective in combat

    2) will have so many small and different ideas coming from the bottom of the hierarchy  that nothing really gets done and everyone just focuses on small projects that wont affect everyone playing DU

    3) excluding high functioning sheeple, the people that make up a youtuber's fan base will probably have other friends that they want to play with that they actually know unlike everyone else from that youtuber's fanbase, and so while their org size will be large, no one will actually be contributing much to any collective projects unless their god is currently streaming.

Tl;DR: most youtuber orgs will be too disorganised to do anything useful in the long run

    Is this a real thread?

Numbers matter only if you do zerg tactics. DU is not a game where Zerg tactics pay off, if anything Zerg tactics wil lbleed your bank empty in DU. Try and fight a war without having money, I'm sure it will work just fine.

Also, Youtuber communities are easily the most volatile ones.

    Here's a simple plan for destroying a youtuber's community.

Step 1 : Record them out of context saying the N-Word, C-Word, P-Word, F-Word or any derogatory term about latinos, africans, caucassians, asians and shit, even Australians - we all know Australia is a fake country anyway, a girl on youtube said so, so it must be true. #flat-earth #NASA-is-fake

Step 2 : Publish the video, wait for the Youtube Neural Network to take a whiff of that negativity and then wait for Polygon to write a clickbait piece on said youtuber, with such Pulitzer-worthy titles as "[Youtuber Name] are NAZI supporters".

Step 3 : Make a catchy #hashtag and ask the youtuber's advertisement firms to shut them down.

Step 4 : Make a Sub-Reddit where you parallelize the youtuber with Keemstar, so Keemstar brings them on Drama Alert so the Youtuber eventually loses their mind and starts going mental on Twitter after Keemstar is done spreading lies on how the youtuber is a Pedophile.

Step 5 : Watch how the SJWs inside the youtuber's community begin a civil war that tears them apart.

    Step 6 : Win.

Youtuber communities are a joke. Any community built around a personality is a joke.

And this would be a problem because.....?
More players = more gameplay = more fun.

Why should orgs which are founded now get some kind of protection? If your org can't adapt to new situations or If you can't keep up with others then just change things.

Some large org kills your members constantly? Move to another planet or try to make their lives as hard as possible

Some players run the market and install a monopol there in certain goods because of their large backbone? Get their supply lines or move to another product

Can't really see a problem there

Mining may not be fun for you (or me) but to others. There are hundreds and thousands of ppl in eve doing it to relax and there it's even more boring (to me).

Lol, you can't be bullied in EVE. Only thin-skinned people from Providence get easily offen-- oh... yeah... that's your lot. EVE"s butt-end of the joke "Providence is safe".

You want Babysitting, NQ is adamant on not babysitting, they sold the game as such on the AMAs of the Kickstarter. But don't let NQ's own interpretation tell you what's the facts, I bet you have a better insight than the developers on what they want for the game. As they said "griefing and scamming won't be punished, harrassment is where we intervene". What's harrassment? Telling people "I will skin your cat alive". That's harrassment. Or GigX, claiming he would cut the Judge's hands' off. Thatr's harrassment.

Here's the hypocrisy with your lot.

You don't care for scams, or economic warfare or blockades - which is what mercs do, grief a group of people or the same people to stop them from importing in a market. I guess you are either that much of a noob in EVE or never done anything that Pew Pew, if you don't know what Mercs do in eVE, which your above claims SCREAM "I never done monopolies in EVE".

Why I think you don't care for economics? Cause you think "DUAL has no PVE, thus, I won't have to grind mobs for days, thus I can farm my materials, so, all I need is magical immunity to bullets" or more aptly "Novaquark, babysit me, whoaaaaa".

You also don't want meaningful content or things like Rooks & Kings, or WingspanTT or anyone who farms you Providence folk for the lolzies and that youtube ad revenue. Yeah, WingspanTT, I bet you would love seeing them gone, right? Right??????? He's a profesional troll in EVE, ganking people, then sending them mocking letters for those sweet sweet salty tears.  Rooks & Kings, destroying fleets of ships cause jsut "they can". They didn't even loot the wrecks, just left the wrcks to attract more kills by SALVAGING SHIPS.

So, you don't want all the interesting parts of EVE. Right. Why you play EVE ????? You clearly don't like its main attraction, so, wwhy are you palying EVE?

More importantly, why are you in this community???? You clearly bought a Sapphire Pledge, so, you must be really into EVE's main allure, so, WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE IF YOU DON'T WANT EVE'S FREEDOM????

Furthermore, you don't want bounty hunting. Cause you can't talk tough (or shit), if other people can hire people to grief you, right?????? I have a thick skin and have succumbed to Harden The Frak Up from exposure to EVE Online. I don't care. If they send griefers after me, I don't care, I will have content being delivered to my doorstep, every day, every hour of my playtime. But you? You would ask for "PVE servers" if you could at this point.

Seriously, people, pay mercs to come after me, I don't give a crap for griefing. All it's gonna do is just make me better at avoiding ganks.

That's where your hipocrisy shows, your lot wants to talk tough and claim "HTFU", but when the chips are down? You show your spineless self and your thin-skin. You are SUPER SOFT, so toughen up, you are making the rest of EVE's playerbase look like WoW players.

Bounty Hunters will farm you for money - if they succeed and bait you, like it's done in EVE, you would know if you where ever hired to grief someone specific.

Mercs will be hired to blockade you and your whole corporation/guild/w-e like it's 1774 (good year for privateers, look it up). BLOCKADING IS GRIEFING ON LARGE SCALE.

General banditry will be a thing, cause why not? That's how CIVILISATIONS START. Spartans? Just thugs who took over territory. The Spaniards? Just thugs taking over indigenous people's lands - that's history, not politics - and then taking their gold as well, establishing "new colonies".

Bad people, exist, you can't shy away from it, it's up to you to HTFU and going out there to show them who's boss.

And I can make a prediction, DU's "Providence", will be the Arkzone. A good place for newbros and RPers, but really not secure enough to worth it staying forever.

You know, I never interacted directly with Signal Cartel, but you are not good material to promote them. You are way too soft, you probably crumble under pressure as well.

Cheers, god bless, have a happy new year and may you HTFU in 2018 (mainly for your sake, if griefers can "bully" you, I don't even want to IMAGINE what's happening in your head when your boss yells at you directly, in a sound-proof office).

No. This is terrible. You have zero idea on how progreI don
First, DU uses Timers for training, that's from EVE. You don't grind XP like a gullag inmate grinding rocks, that's what Korean MMOs do, DU is not a grindfest - nor a gullag, duh.

Second, a ship has a level - it's the average Skillpoints of its Crew (earned via the timers, even when offline). Also, their LITERAL EXPEREINCE IN COMBAT, makes them better than green crews.

A ship is just a ship, nothing more, nothing less. it's a piece of machinery - crew included. Thus a ship is just as good as the sumfo its parts.

DU is about LEGITIMATE experience in the game, not "magical snowflakes".

Please, do look up the kickstarter video - since I am 101% certain you are not the kind of person to bother with DevBlogs after reading this.

I do recall you saying things like "I am here for the RP" and other PVE related topics. This only reinforces my idea of "carebears go grizzly real fast".

Not to be blunt, their algorithms are not "impressive". The same technique with cell-population can be achieved by anyone who is 3rd Semester at CSD - and 3D modelling skyscrappers can be achieved on tumblr or pinterest.

Their only real innovation is their shaderwork. And Shaders - no disrespect to any graphics specialist - are just a matter of time investment in developement.

Decima Engine, the one Kojima uses for his next trip into early dementia, is a pwoerful engine ,with 10x the shaderwork that Lumberyard has. It even has floating hair now, after Kojima totally not stole source code from Fox Engine and added it to Decima's.

Wanna bet after Death Stranding comes out Star Citizen will move to Decima engine? Deep down, you know it.

It's not really that impressive when you KNOW what's behind the magic trick they play. It's just they try to make a skyscrapper out of duct-tape and hype. That's not how this works.

NQ built the netcode framework first. That's the game's core. Netcode. That's what DU lives and dies by. Combat can be tuned, building can be tuned, RP can be enriched, and customisation can be all about Hello Kitty stickers (hopefully). But broken Netcode means broken experience.

Do not confuse an expensive toy with a good toy, Star Citizen is to video games what iPhone X is to smartphones. Just hype.

And DU is like the first Iphone. Groundbreaking shit.

    Hi there.

Let's go through the logistics of spawned projectiles.

Any, and all projectiles, spawned in any and all video games, have a "lifespan" as you put it, i nthe form of "render distance". From Gallaga, to Space Invaders, to MEcha Unicorn XL, all these games spawn projectiles, that despawn once they reach out of the screen (usually, the rule of thumb is 50% screen excess is where the bullet despawns).

Every - and all - bullet spawns, are tracked by the server, they are ,for all itnents and purposes, termporay "characters" the server spawns and flies in one motion, given speed and "figurative" bullet weight, as well as the G of the engien it's coded in. That means, for every and each bullet spawn, the server has to "fly" the bullet. You may say "but only x gun uses them", thatr's irrelevant, 100 people ,firting 5 rounds a second, means the serfver has to spawn 500 bullet entities and fly them to a target and then some more, since it has to verify the bullet collided. That's called a resource hog and it's why Battlefield as a series is bottlenecked to 33 updateqs per second fro mthe server and up to 64 people at once. But let's no discuss Netcode just yet, that can come in later.

As for the cobmat system, it's not 1:1 EVE's model.

It is lock-on as Lock-on Elder Scrolls Online is. EVE is built as such, cause it was coded in 1999-2001. They already explaien yo ulock the "mining bubbles" to do damge with weapons - or at least, that's their vision for AvA combat.

EVE Online has Blasters (plasma rapid fire railguns),. And it also has ships going around a target so fast, they can't be hit - which is why those ships have rapid fire railguns  that work only in close range, since they don't have enoguh projectile speed to reach long range targets in time.

Now, as for NQ';s ways of netcoding. Their model is essentially ,action prediction.

Your gun has a set of quantified data, For example, the "muzzle velocity" is expressed as "Optimal Range",m aka, the range in within your bullet will deal maximum damage (before enemy mitigation). That value can be increased by skill training (pasisive clock on upgrades, you sequence on your own). So, a top-level Gunner, has 5/5 Gunnery, and 5/5 Projectile Projections, giving them a net bonus of +50% optimal range (number is placeholder not finite value, nothign has been announced ass of the raw numbers). Further more, Certain weapon expertise can provide bonus to your damage itself. After that, AMMUNINIOT type can increase your optimal range, by making the bulelt lighter. What does lighter bullet mean for railguns? Less damage but you can fire fro ma range the enemy can't even hit you.

See, ship combat is not about "PRO MLG NO SCOPE" IRL, it's about  baiting the enemy, int oa maneuver they can't veer out of and then you pepper them with superioror firepower.

That involves math. In EVE, there is a cardinal rule "never Approach directly", meaning ,enver go i na straight line to oyur target, always approach with an angle. Why? Cause if yo uare going in a B-line towards the enmy, they can just blow you to bits, sicne yo udon't move left or right to them, you can be zero'd in and destroyed easily.  Same idea apples in DU's model.

A turret on a ship, takes time to turn, and that's how EVE quantifies "tracking", aka, "how much your guns can keep up with the target". Again, training can icnrease the tracking of a gun, hence a trained in Gunnery player will be favoured for a gunner position over a non-gunner.

And now, how do you quantify defenses? If a ship was to move at a certain accelration, ti has a certain momentum. That momentum, means that if a bullet was to hit you, the ship will push it away ,as the bulelt connects (depending on the bullet's angle). That is quantified in EVE (and probably DU) by comparing Angular Velocity of a target, to your guns' Tracking - your angles of trackin ,versus their angles of traversing space. Depending on the percante of V-Angular/Tracking you get a certain percentage of damage out of your turets. Notice, the further your guns can easily hit, the less tracking you need to track a target. I.e. if you see a jet plane in the sky, you can easily point at it with your finger and keep track of it, but if the jet plane was flying low and at full speed, - well, you'd be deaf - you'd not be able to jeep yup with the plane's speed to point at it.

This kind of model is favourable for DU's netcode, cause it takes advantage of te concurrent calculations he server does. I.e. you may be seeing our target at 1 second dealy cause of how the server partition works, but the SERVER sees you and the other person at the same time. So, you taking a shot at them, is exactly as if you were takin a shot at them at real-time, using the above mathematical means of expressing hit chance and other things. This will also produce the effect of "bulelt travelling unti lti hits" by taking a moment before the hit confirmation comes back visually, but that's just something I'd like them to a least try and work at if it's not already how their rendering works.

And that's where your request lays. You CAN fly around a target at high speeds in EVE (and obviously, since it's a similar model of math emulated combat), so much so that their guns can't even keep up with you to hit you, while you pepper them with pew pew, but also, you got to understand that if you attack a bigger ship, they will probably have far more shield strength than you - and they got more fuel than you, so they can outlast you. This is not Star Citzien ,where Super Hornets are able to solo bigger ships, cause "I paid 400 dollarunions for that Super Hornet, I should be able to wreck anything less than 400 Dollarunions, and even above 400 Dollarunions".

Physics based combat is fun and all but it can be emulated just fine with mathematics and lock-on, it doesn't need to be simulated. And for the scope DU goes for, it's a good and validated compromise. I'd like an ESO-style lock-on system with 100 times the numbers of people on the screen that ESO can pull off, than 1/3 of the numbers ESO can pull off and fancy bullet spawns.

P.S: Turrets in DU demand players to use them ,that's something NQ has made explicitely clear mayn times.

Uhm....even If it's Lock and fire as in eve, you still need ammo. And people toan the turrets.
This system just means that bullets/lasers are Not simulated (like FPS), but hit chance and dmg are calculated, depending on different stats like: your ingame skills, your velocity, your radial Velocity, turret tracking, turret properties, the enemie's velocity and vector, hull armor, shields, ....

It's in the kickstarter video. They will have weapons, it just won't be based on bullet spawned physics ala Battlefield, just lock-and-fire, with elaborate algorithms for hit chance (project update 21 on kickstarter). It's a requirement for such gameplay route, due to the game's programming model, based on action prediction and its massive numbers of player concentration.

I'm very very very glad NQ shut down their sales after crowdfunding for a year.

It shows great integrity of intent and avoiding the temptation to continuously extract money from their backers who are invested and possibly more prone to "sunk cost fallacy", and more eager to invest more than they should (risk) given subtle promptings from the dev.

It also as they've stated elsewhere: Ensured they don't over-extend their scope creep nor over-promising... Notably they released pre-alpha build to honour commitments and then avoided the Paris games week again to prioritize development and not lose weeks.

So thank you NQ on that front. Thank you, emphatically.

Secondly, I would like to chip in a couple of months or more upfront to "support" the devs (market signal and finance). But also along with this option comes the further option to create an Organization which I would also like to do. So end of year would be welcome for me on that front as well.

I look forward to joining this game community and promoting some positive stories with everyone.

I'm sorry, but just no. You don't need to pay someone else to make sure you have enough money to buy something, that's called reading a number in your DU account, and following that with simple maths.

Your idea of being a bank to store money just wont work, as people can store money in their DU account. And it doesn't have a risk of being stolen or scammed for there. If people want to make transactions, they click on things in their DU account, they don't use a slower method that charges fees. As for the investments, what lethys said. The only part of your organisation that people will want to use is maybe for loans. I wish you good luck trying to get people to use your services, and that is all I will say on the matter.

Loans etc i understand, but unless money will be a physical object in game, there is literally no reason to put money away with a bank, and no reason for the bank to do it as interest will just make the bank loose money.

How on earth will you enforce changes in discord reflecting in game transfers? Even if you could enforce it, you have to physical be at where the resources are to get them, unless you hire someone to bring them to you, costing people who use this service more. In game local markets will prosper for this reason.

While i can see in game stocks in orgs becoming a thing through private investment groups such as luminous, i cant see why someone would do it through your system instead of contacting the organisation directly, as for a business, which you are, to profit, money has to be took from somewhere, so it is likely you would be charging a fee on top of it.

Ok, so roughly what i understood from a loose translation, is that you want a SETI at home system for DU to improve performance. While better performance is nice, Apart from problems which lethys brought up, i can see another problem with that this would require so much extra development time from NQ to implement, and i doubt that a lot of people would use it, especially when they were playing DU, as they would what all of their computer to themselves when running it themselves.
