P2P is my favorite way to fund this game, simply because I can understand how hard it is for developers to develop if they have to work another job just to make ends meat. I just look at it in the fashion that, if you want frequent updates that mean something, then you have to be willing to dish out the dough to make it possible for the devs to focus solely one making this game as good as it can possibly be, and I say this as a broke college kid, so I get why paying this kind of premium is threatening, I just think it's a necessary evil.

I like the concept, but I feel that if you could transition between planets with that kind of system, people would tend to stagnate with expansion. If you used this concept as a awesome way to transition between different player/group controlled tiles on a planet, that would add a interesting mechanic for battles, allowing different kinds of strategies involving moving troops from one battle field to the opposite site, in essence creating a super dynamic flanking system, as well as being a nice and compact transportation system.

That's a hard topic, since for the most part these collapses are caused by players if I'm understanding you correctly, so I don't think there is any programmable way to PREVENT collapses, but on the abandoned towns and cities aspect, I think you should be able to capture/destroy these bases even if its not abandoned, as that should keep people on their toes.

I think the only real early game groups will be akin to corporations, as we just don't have the manpower or community "one-ness" to form any such ruling bodies. However, I have no plans to base my play on governmental rules, as I relish the anarchy, but do see the necessity to have laws in the future, as I need someone to rebel against.

I'm with Cybrex, I'm not nearly as well versed with the more technical sides of this game, so any classes Cybrex is taking, count me in.

I'm right there with you Dhara. I imagine a lot of the time I'll be happily minding my own business, building, trading goods, services, resources and technology with fellow COP'ers, and other free spirited merchants, and probably stealing some of Kiklix's spaceships, but if someone crosses my path in the wrong way, or troubles one of my kin, then I'll gleefully turn my dark pirate side on and have a little fun.

This is about how I will be playing too.  I don't necessarily want to run amok in the universe griefing people.   I will probably be more of a merchant/peddler of sorts, doing honest business with those who do business honestly.   Might set up a couple of trading outposts on a few different planets as time goes by and try to eek out a living selling resources and the like.

But I won't rule out a bit of mischief from time to time either if I run across the right situation.  If you're stupid enough to be traveling in my sector carrying loads of valuables with NO protection or alliance with me or anything, then the opportunity might be too tasty to ignore.  But then again, I might be in a building frenzy that day and just watch you fly by.  Who knows?

It also depends on how I'm treated.  If someone tries to make me an enemy in game, I very well might oblige and choose to have some fun with it.   I"m pretty open to whatever right about now.  It's just difficult to be sure about anything this early on though.  Might end up being REALLY fun playing a troublemaker.   Just have to wait and see.

I think of myself as Chaotic Good in real life - with the example given in D&D being Robin Hood.
One of the key elements of Chaotic is having an aversion to rules/order/law. One of the key elements of Good is high regard for life.
I typically avoid joining groups that list rules.

I joined COPS because I know Kiklix from Landmark, I've always admired his spaceship designs and I'm looking forward to funneling resources his way to help him create some cool ships in DU.
I'm thrilled to see so many people I know from Landmark here in the forums and glad several of them are joining or allying with COPS.
(The only person from the Landmark forums I don't consider a friend is Thrasy).

Labels aside, I'm pleasantly surprised to see our values aligned...
Freedom fighter, lone wolf, play by own rules...
I expect to subvert the economy by handing out a bunch of free stuff (my experience is that players are generally greedy when it comes to setting prices)
Traveling on a multi-crew ship with the members we have seems like it will be a lot of fun.

We make our own laws and our decide our own rules. I won't be playing by your rules. I, for one, will be playing by my own.

That's the essence of a free spirit. We break away from the 'mould' and forge our own path.

Vulpin reacted to norab7 in Invoice chat where ingame distance matters (Idea from Jared)
I'm going to throw my 2 cents in here and say any in-game VOIP should be at the lowest of the low priority over anything.

As a player who's played many many games that have Voip i've always chosen TS over them. Don't get me wrong, i don't dislike in-game voip it's just that it doesn't beat TS at all in anything other than immersion and talking to people who you don't know.

Local chatting between friends is not the priority i would put on voip but talking to strangers is, people who know each other will generally always have a method of communicating outside of the game and will prefer that, but strangers you meet will have nothing.

A system i would like for voip would be a 'sizeable' area around the player (that can be totally muted too) that allows listen and chat, so the player chooses both the distance they can hear and speak.
If players are outside this area then they could have a form of notification or speech bubble above their head indicating that they are speaking within your hearing range but you have selected to not hear that distance. People speaking within your range could maybe have a notification too so you know who's talking to you.

Improvements to equipment could possibly increase the range you can talk hear at.

I personally won't use any in-game voip other than to talk to strangers on the odd occasion as i'm a voice-activated TS user and muting one to talk on the is bother to me.

Vulpin got a reaction from Dhara in Asteroids and deep space stuff?
Mining deep space asteroids is impractical, given how hard it would be to locate them, but asteroid belts might fit the bill for interstellar mining, since asteroids typically have nearly pure ores and resources in them, making them lucrative. Maybe some asteroids could come in or out of systems, making the dynamics just a little bit more interesting.

B2P is my preference. P2P is okayish. The Game-time token worked really nicely in Wildstar, but what happens when one of those people who can't do a subscription (me) runs out of game time? Is it game over for them?

Run a P2P with an expensive lifetime sub would be my input. I can fork out a large amount in one go. I just don't believe in subscriptions.

I see, so you mean meditative interaction. Then yes, that would be quite nice, but I do expect those implants to come at a cost, or higher survival needs equating to higher stamina drains for the implants to work. And the implants are lootable when a space-racist kills you for being a cyborg
