When I first found out about this game, I was all for F2P or B2P.

However, over time I've come to realize, a game of this scale cannot be funded solely by a cash shop. It'll collapse within months of launch.

I noticed some people saying that F2P games have larger playerbases/ are more popular. While that's true, more players isn't always a good thing. More people means more trolls, you know.

Basically, P2P with plex is the way to go.

You are right TMotor, about power armor and small mecha. Im thinking of something roughly tank sized single or double seat biped vehicle with a couple weapon mounts for stuff thats hard for infantry to carry. HMG's, Radar equipment or so forth.

Compared to many cities in USA, most streets are very narrow and often generate traffic jam. That's why most of us goes to the studio by train, tube, train or even on foot (for those living near the office)! With Tea & Cookie Shops, we have also a lot of Bakeries (Croissants we like. Yummy!). Minus the very sad events at the beginning of the year, major crimes are not that common (at least, not more than in any capital city that comes to mind), even if they are some districts safer than others. The main concerns are the Public Transport and Cost of Living.

We have many people coming from various countries (Americans included) visiting the city and we are approaching the time where - each year - Tourism increases significantly

A group of blood thirsty raiders is more akin to an army than a state. Unlike most armies Blackguard soldiers can quit at any time with no repercussions

Maybe but doing so in something like a safe zone seems more like a pain than anything else. Maybe have something like a bound bed and when in a safe zone that has a bed (or maybe beds for rent?) your character travels to that bed or area by itself when disconnected. Thats only for more RP than I normally like though as in a safe zone i would prefer if you just vanish or fade out as its safe so it really shouldn't matter. when you log back in it could be in the same place or a set area. I do think it should be similar to how you describe outside of a safe zone though maybe just not the timer till you die or at least not a short one (few days?)

The Lonestar Empire is a ruthless force to be reckoned with. We only attack other beings if they pose a direct threat or if we are at war with each other. We have a long lasting rage with the federation and all government aspects and we are at constant war with them. We are an empire built of pirates.

    Backstory
As the last of our kind, we have seen it all. Empires falling down, power-driven figures destroying everything in their path, survivors emerging from the rubble of their homelands with an everlasting thirst for redemption. We were once part of these said survivors but no, we rose up and moved past our rage. We came together and forged an empire of integrity, honesty, and loyalty. We are the Lonestar Empire. While we build our empire, we have hope of a long living empire and prosperity within our people.

Have yet to see a generalized topic on this subject, so I figured I would compose something and then place it up for debate to see what you all think on the subject matter.

There are several different ways weapons as I see can go in Dual Universe, and when your basing it off RND otherwise known as Research and Development, it may go something like this as you progress throughout the game.
    {Anything here is subject to change, and or new ideas}

    Base Game Starting Weapons:
Auto Cannons - High rate of fire, low damage, decent against fighter defense or other assorted light or unarmored ships. Artillery - Long range, slow to mid fire rate weapon that deals fairly heavy damage against mid to large size targets. Dumb-Fire Rockets - Line of sight rocket for fast assault frigates or fighters & bombers against mid to large size targets. Short Range Cruise Missiles - Mid to Long range heavy damage weapon with some target acquisition and tracking abilities.  Low yield Nukes - Heavy damage weapon just meant to obliterate targets, or demoralize the enemy. Maybe even use in instances of planetary bombardment? Flak Cannons - Low damage - Very high rate of fire - for protection against Rocket, Cruise, and Nukes.
Then as you progress throughout the game then you may start being able to access research opportunities like this. . .

    Mid Game Weapons:
Rail gun - Long range heavy damage weapon with armor piercing capability - requires massive power output to use effectively. Emp Bomb - Pulse weapon to disable or destroy un-shielded electronics and other assorted ship / station systems. Pulse Cannon - Early stage energy weapon, uses fairly large amounts of power to fire off a mid range damage projectile of energized matter. Capable of chewing through armor with ease.
Now as you start understanding technology far better, this is where the "Interesting" weapons that will scare the hell out of you come into play.

    End Game Weapons:
Beam Cannon - Late stage energy weapon that uses insanely massive amounts of power, fires continuous stream of energized matter {plasma ?} that is capable of obliterating armored targets. Knife to butter anyone? ? Other ?
For all of the weapons no matter when they are researched they should have different tiers of each, meaning a higher tier rail gun for instance would still be viable later game while facing off against energy weapons. The only difference is to achieve the higher tier weaponry for the older tech would require significantly more research to keep it effective.

Now there are things I have certainly forgotten to add to this list. If you have any ideas feel free to tack them on below. As well let us know what you think of these weapon choices, after all your opinions matter, especially if you want to see some of these weapons in-game, as a lot of us definitely would.

As for the {Debates} topics, I will be trying to write one a day for the considerable future, so stay tuned to see what I might bring up next.

    SilverLight Industries

Founded as SilverLight Research by the United Nations in 2055 as a way to pool the research capabilities of many smaller companies into something that could assist with developing advanced Arkship technology, they were one of the few companies and organizations that could possibly compete with the globally powerful Nexus Corporation on a technological basis. Eventually, SilverLight expanded to include many other industries such as extraterrestrial mining and Arkship construction, assisting the U.N.’s Ark program through multiple facets of the project. However, the core project and top priority of SilverLight remained the artificial intelligence systems that would run the Arkships and assist humanity when they arrived on their new homeworld, Alioth. Soon after the last of the Arkships was completed, the U.N. shocked millions when it announced that Arkship resources were scarce, and that it would utilize an “artificial genetic selection algorithm” to decide who would live and who would perish in the oncoming apocalypse. Naturally, an uproar rose up, and riots and violent protests ravaged the streets of Earth in its last days. Recognizing that this was planned long before the Arkships’ completion, the Nexus Corporation, in cooperation with SilverLight and various other organizations, launched its own retaliation: “Project Cinderfall”. With SilverLight’s artificially intelligent algorithm development combined with Nexus Corp’s networking capabilities, Project Cinderfall circumvented the U.N.’s originally biased selection algorithm, allowing a much larger and more diverse population, including many members of SilverLight, to make it aboard the Arkships and into the rebirth of humanity in the age of Alioth.

thats mostly how SE's conveyors work for the most part, though.
    At least to my knowledge.

It also doesnt really matter if the conveyors are voxel or mesh elements.
As the only thing that matters is the connectome, the net graph which describes how individual elements are connected.
If you call them voxels or not doesnt matter.

For the connection checks it could mostly be done iteratively.
The (passive) connector blocks dont run any code on their own.
When the first functional block (anything with an inventory or energy consumption/production or a network port, depending on which connector block we look at specifically) starts to build a "net" (using a flood fill algorithm or similar) through all the connector blocks it can reach.
connector blocks keep track which nets they are part of (this would condense down to 1 net or x nets if there are different power tiers, say when you have multiple independent high power weapon subnets connected by medium power interconnects for general system load).
Other attached functional elements ask any connector they connect to if they are already part of a net.
If theres no net they go through the process i outlined.
If theres already a net they join it and then can exchange materials/power/data with all other functionals in the same net.
When a connector gets damaged the whole process repeats to guarantee that broken connections dont continue working.
This would limit the heavy calculations to when changes are made and lets modules communicate "directly" without having to invoke all the connector elements for it.

With mesh elements which have an orientation and defined connection points the whole process can be made more efficient.
general connector elements would be two-terminal elements which can only connect to two other elements. (Straight piece of wire without intersections)
Then there would be crossing elements which have three or more terminals.

Using such a sheme would allow to build a more detailed connectome including crossings.
So you could calculate a detailed connectome with all "edge" connections between all "node" crossings and can tell quickly how many paths there are from A to B and if an individual connector is important for their connection and if its removal would reduce/remove transport capacity between A and B.
It would also greatly accelerate recalculation of connections in case of damage.
It would also enable easier calculation of throughput limitations (you cant supply two 2 megawatt lasers through one 2MW cable)

Image for clarification of second part.

So as I read through the forums I find the state of it all depressing. Toxic fumes are starting to engulf the whole of the forums and no one seems to care.

Instead of helping one another we belittle and degrade. So many post about the exact same subject from pure laziness. Instead of healthy debates we argue, fight, and bicker.

We need to resolve these issues before it is too late. some of this is our fault and some the lack of moderation we have. No i am not attacking NQ-Nyzaltar only saying he/she is but one person and we the community should not rely on him/her.

We should stop all the multiple post by pointing the OP to the original post about the subject and leave it at that. Maybe have the duplicate post removed? (pokes Nyzaltar) Ignore the trolls and put a stop to their fun. if you make it not fun for them they will stop.

Personally I want the community to flourish and be one of the best, but how the forums are going I have stopped posting for these reasons and I am not going to continue to waste my time repeating myself on the same fights over and over again with the same counter arguments over and over again.

Kongou reacted to Wilks Checkov in Introduction: Wilks Checkov
First of all let me start out in saying I would have come around to this sooner rather than later in part due towards a few "unplanned" health issues that have placed me out of action and MIA for about a month. Anyway enough of focusing on the past. . . lets get to why we are all here. . .

    Introduction:

I am Wilks Checkov; and yes that is my real name, and before you or anyone else asks - I am not related to a Pavel Chekov, the character on Star Trek.

I am a 43 year old USAF veteran that happens to love grand o space operas. If it has to do with space / science fiction I usually love it.

Most of my time currently is divided between my daughter and my six month old grandson, and my other life long passion: Eve Online, of which I have played almost religiously since the 2003 Castor patch release. Other than that my time is divided between games like Space Engineers and the up and coming release of Star Citizen.

In watching E3 this year I happened to come across the last few minutes of the demo video for a little known title called Dual Universe, and as usual it caught my eye, being in a genre that I love greatly. So after some research I found the website, did some heavy reading on the forums, and decided to come over here and support the community as this title holds quite a lot of promise if they can actually pull it off.

While we wait on on the devs to get us a game going I will be taking time to get our corporate establishment up and running as well as devising a system of government from scratch. If you or your corporation are interested in joining up feel free to let  me or one of our corporate recruiters know.

For now, during the coming weeks and months I hope to get to know you all, and I am looking forward to seeing you on the flip side.

    Sincerely. . .

How I hope to see, groups will start to bind together, I know when we come into the game our organization "may" accidentally step on some toes, with a nearly 500 man Reddit following behind us, not all will join but some will. We are always open to form relations with groups and other alliances, we are after all a group of engineers, but we are also fairly expedient at combat.

We will begin working on a planetary capitol, setting up refining facilities, small scale shipyards, trade markets, then start selling our goods on the starting planet, maybe even ships capable of leaving planetary atmo?

Once that is all done we will be building our corporate counsel and begin inviting participating member organizations to send their delegates to participate. Setting in place the first laws and regulations of the new world.

Issues born will be crushed by the mind of many a politician. . .

Then when the time is right, we will build a massive colony ship, and head unto the stars, never to return. . .

                                                             - at least for a while. . .
