  1. Is it still a roadkill without a road, tho? Seems wrong to me. What would it be called then, however? Groundkill? Dirtkill?
  2. How will you enjoy roadkills ... without a road? #dualroads #trafficjamnow #roadkill
  3. #realism #stuckintrafficevenhere #dualtrafficjam #immersionatanycost
  4. A road is still useful, even if the vehicle itself has no physical contact (or not a direct one anyway) with the ground, but is relatively near it - aka hovering. It provides set traffic lanes and can separate vehicle traffic (ground based) from pedestrians, for example. It also adds that urban feel compared to just having, I guess, dirt between the buildings or 'dirt roads' basically. It can also provide structure or order in traffic if you apply lanes and directions. Ships would be treated as helicopters in that sense, they just go straight from A to B etc. While you can ignore roads for installations or small towns, I'm guessing the larger things become and the more people go to a place or through it, the more you benefit from some form of road or traffic system. I'd bet large cities, if we ever get to see them in DU, will likely use roads as we know them, or some similar system to regulate ground based traffic a bit. As for trying to regulate air based traffic... I think that will likely be too tricky without any assistance from the game such as being able to designate traffic lanes and whatnot to keep airspace somewhat structured. Time will tell.
  5. As someone also waiting for Star Citizen, I really don't mind whether it's a few more months or not - eventually, it comes.
  6. To be honest, I expect most people to eventually noticed that the organization they joined does not have as many members as advertised or shown. It doesn't matter much in terms of projected power or manpower if an organization with 1-3 people has 5, 10 or 500 alts - in the end, it's just those 1-3 people. The higher the alt number, the easier it would be to spot, however. I mean, you can promise or show a lot but you have to deliver eventually. And a "ghost army" can't hold forever.
  7. Sometimes, sparing people can net you rewards (or being spared) in the future. You can never fully (with absolute precision) know how things develop depending on your actions. The favor could be returned later by the same or an associated party is what I mean.
  8. I'm sure we will find good ways. Or the devs, rather. I'm against some "auto-repair over time" however, besides some very limited erosion or weathering mechanic for the first layer of blocks exposed to the elements. Other than that, you want some change fixed? Do it yourself or let someone do it. In our old Minecraft server, any new player would spawn in the safe "spawn city". Once you'd leave the doors, it was no man's land or faction controlled territory. Yet through mining or war (artillery), the outside of the city often looked like crap. So we got a player initiative together to fix it and a bit later, it was green again. Other areas further off (that would see no care after war) still looked bombed or damaged. Something I actually liked, it would show you where war went and ruins would speak untold stories about conflicts.
  9. That is an aspect to consider, however. Due to potential copyright or legal problems, I'm guessing. Of course the geniuses had to pick royal families, known people, etc. If (a lack of) alt rules can't get them, this could. On that note I sometimes wonder why so many organizations pop up on that community hub but never here. This goes for either the orgs or, more often, the users. Just an observation I made some time ago, still seems to hold true here and there. I wonder if the people in question even see this here?
  10. I'll throw in the key question into the room: Is it forbidden? The forum rules, after a quick glance at least, do not imply this directly or I missed the key parts. Of course it looks like a silly alt-paradise or network, all things considered. Some affiliates share the same style of introduction post or logo, many profiles appear "bare-bones" and there doesn't seem to be external sources that show that the group has a prior history or traces somewhere - according to a very quick search anyway - thus making it more unlikely that an existing organization came here "at once" with various members. No website was linked when I looked around. It seems justified to make fun of it, given the very very low chance of it being legit... But it doesn't seem to be forbidden so far. Frowned upon by the community, sure. If everyone is generally against it (I, for one, think it's amusing seeing the obvious attempt) or if NQ is against it, consider adding some rule against fake news networks or members. That way, you can directly call for official assistance (mods) when these cases pop up. On another note, I'd very much look forward to some sort of response from the organization / people in question about the accusation. But before a mob with pitchforks comes around, I'd just smirk at it and move on.
  11. Perhaps in the future, the roads can also work like powered rails, transferring energy to a "car" (hovercraft, whatever), thus actually letting you save your own fuel or energy. Of course "cars" would not be solely dependent on that energy transfer as they could go nowhere (or not far) without those 'energy roads', but it would basically be like a "free charge service" within settlements and cities or, respectively, between them as long as powered roads are there. This actually sounds like a good idea but would rely on the appropriate gameplay mechanics. It would also result in a good amount of work, you would not just have to plaster concrete somewhere but also make sure it has the necessary tech to power compatible "cars". If wheels make it in, they could work unpowered as well or cars would simply rely on their internal energy or fuel storage. E: Totally patenting that!
  12. With hovercraft tech and similar, I think roads wouldn't necessarily help with speed unless you'd use wheels. Still useful without any "hard benefits". Can still be used to mark where traffic (on foot or otherwise) goes and stays and we're used to roads in our modern urban infrastructure, so I'm all for them. Chances are they may have to be slightly wider however to accommodate somewhat larger "cars", unless there would be enforced regulations in some areas. A library also sounds interesting and will be useful if certain functions can be implemented - for example being able to write in documents you can then store in places and read at a later time. A museum could also work well.
  13. Just throwing it in here after playing around a bit. Due to size (despite slight optimization) it could initially be choppy as it loads for those with a smaller connection. 'bout 9mb. Later usage examples: Potential in-setting 'screensaver' or looping on (public) telescreens for promotion, etc.
  14. In the end, group mentalities will likely dominate. To be expected. If I have an organization or alliance, I'll focus on them instead and then anyone else. In short, likely countless groups will try to get off the rock and find a place on their own out there - and then there'll likely be public projects to establish transportation off-world initially before other things and infrastructure get established.
  15. If this will not be a barrel bust, then you can bet that we as organization will also dedicate funds to promoting this in a somewhat more immersive or believable fashion. Maybe not right now, but surely once the game makes bigger steps. Heck, if it does and I don't report in any longer, remind me of this. Good things should be supported early on, basically.
  16. This is a fitting addition and will likely have a major impact once this game is more fleshed out. With one word: immersion. Some probably can't hear that word anymore, but just think of mining or flying somewhere while listening to actual ads with a relevance to the world, community, etc.
  17. Assuming there is different levels of messages and communication within statements (science, n' all), I of course can't judge the underlying intent of the previous or initial posts. I basically mention this because even if one were to assume the disposition was unfriendly or opposed (in short, someone asks to criticize rather than simply gain knowledge about a topic), the question itself appears to be valid and I like to inquire, too. Organizations advertising elevated or special positions (to outsiders)? Nothing new. But in mass organizations or large ones you could generally expect that existing members get internal preference and internal offers rather than also opening external applications. Of course one could assume you also did that internally, but it still seems to be somewhat odd given the aforementioned reasons. If you opened both internal and external applications this puts your members at odds with external applicants. In the end, any approach can have pros and cons depending on what you look for, so I'm not necessarily saying "this is bad". Just wondering because the two raised the initial question. What could use some work was the public response, however E: Good luck, I suppose.
  18. It's like religion. You gotta believe in it until salvation (playable stable or developed version ...or release).
  19. You mean this thread? https://board.dualthegame.com/index.php?/topic/10801-%E2%98%91-the-unofficial-looking-for-organization-thread/ I should still get it stickied or, to be more precise, request that it is stickied, at one point. But it's mostly for seekers. One could think about making another thread just for organizations to post ads or multimedia in. Was this the idea for this thread, thread creator?
  20. Fun fact: There are 35 entries (filtered from 1,282 total entries) for the term "Empire" in Organizations on the organization page. If you add "Imperium", that makes an additional 9. "Imperial" adds another 5. If we assume none of them are related or "secondary organizations" of another, that already makes possibly 49 different empire-themed factions, at least if one goes by the name. Tendency: Rising
  21. I sometimes wonder why some only seem to consider "bomb it until it perishes" or "do nothing" approaches, because using "contraband" doesn't seem to warrant outright use of lethal force in my book if it's an organization member. I can imagine various other measures like in reality. Be creative or think a bit and you will find alternatives.
  22. If people think wider, they'll find plenty of reasonable uses for laws (and regulations) beyond pure security, contraband etc. laws and whatnot.
