  1. I honestly don't see what people are seeing in FDEV's "communication" that makes it such a shining example. The forums are in meltdown mode: Hundreds of posts have been censored and the mods are working overtime to contain the salt and viscera that litter the battlefield. Nobody is actually talking about the game itself but rather how badly FDEV have handled the situation... This is the result of hundreds if not thousands of complaints and their steam rating taking an absolute pummelling. It's purely reactionary, a low energy attempt to absorb some criticism and complaints. They just put a post on their forums promising upcoming patches with minor changes. It's going to be months before Odyssey is anywhere near where it should be. I see very little difference in FDEV's post compared to a typical NQ "We're listening post" apart from the 3 minor weekly tweaks listed. And if FDEV's track record is anything to go by, those tweaks will not actually fix the problems and the resultant bugs will still be here in 2026. Elite Dangerous was only ever half a game... a mile wide and an inch deep, with shitty dialogue, missions and almost no interaction between players and placeholders for every single feature instead of fully fleshed out functions... The only fully fleshed out facet of the game is the 3D model of the pilot and ship micro transaction store which is almost flawless. Go figure. Now they add odyssey a skim another $40 off of gullible gamers for a shell of an FPS with 2010 graphics and 2005 gameplay. But yeah, a couple of messages on their forums and suddenly NQ need to follow suit... Not a very high bar to clear, for sure. Here is one of the best analyses of the situation: Jump to 3:44 for the discussion of communication.
  2. No point replying, the OP has quit the game. Also, what's WRONG with you? A valley of penises? ROFL... My minds eye is filled with weird and wonderful Rick and Morty Landscapes. By the way adding a * in the word penis doesn't make it any less a penis. I prefer using other words rather than censoring existing words... todger, wang, ham cannon, pink sword, baby pistol, wedding tackle, love truncheon, jolly baster, one eyed Joe... loads of entirely inoffensive ways to refer to it that don't need a *.
  3. Erm... Not sure why you started with "BUT" when you basically just paraphrased literally what I said. ?‍♂️ I guess you just scrolled to the end and read the last line before replying.
  4. I think you are the first person to ever use the release of ED:Odyssey as a positive example. It has been almost universally panned by the players, though.. (And I'm talking Saxa head office levels of salt, here, rather than just the occasional spoon of Woodwards gripe water.) Odyssey is basically slated as a prime example of what happens when a company does NOT listen to its player base and goes ahead and creates a product that very few were interested in and releases it before it's even ready, without testing. Here are some of the top few criticisms of the game. 1) The game as a whole had all but completely stalled for nearly 2 years with almost as little progress beyond platitudes and a few very poorly implemented bolt ons that still don't work properly. Ostensibly the 600 person company were all focussed on Odyssey. Moreover, no details of what Odyssey entailed other than being "a significant addition of the order of being a completely different game" To make matters worse Odyssey has literally broken the previously introduced landmark Fleet Carriers feature (arguably only really big feature released since 2019)... Nobody can move or navigate their Fleet Carriers AT ALL any more. 2) The players requested FDEV fix the current game before introducing new features. Did they? Did they fuck... NONE of the top 10 glaring issues and "permanent placeholders" in the base game have even been touched in the last couple of years: Power play: complete joke... Wings: a joke... Multiplayer: amazingly not compatible with Wings. i.e. a joke. Group play instancing: still almost impossible to get more than a handful of people in the same instance... a joke. Missions: same buggy logic and 10 lines of cheesy as fuck dialog since 2014. SRV (ground vehicle): same single shitty vehicle that supports a single mode of gameplay: i.e. shoot rocks, shoot ships, shoot buttons to activate. Nothing of any depth. 3) A majority of the players in a poll that was answered by over 3000 players (IIRC) a few years back said many would be happy if they could walk around the interiors of the ship and have interior customisation... VR allowed you to look around the bridge or cockpit of your ship and it was wonderful to get a sense of scale and familiarity with the craft that had been called home for years... Braben had talked at great length in the KS about future goals of repairing and upgrading to your ship by hand, say during a protracted battle... Or EVA to fix parts external parts of your ship... Most weren't interested in a full blown "space legs" PVP implementation, believing that it would divert attention from the actual issues in the game (see point 1 above). But FDEV's videos kept going on about "Armstrong Moments" where you could step out of your ship onto land for the first time... It sounded actually quite epic... But What did they deliver? You press a button and (insert Pythonesque fart noise here) you immediately spawn outside your ship on the ground... THE ONE SINGLE MOST REQUESTED FEATURE was not delivered: i.e. ship interiors had NOT been included. The game plays like a FPS from 2010 and worse: 4) Elite is famous for being one of the most grindy games in the world... FDEV mistook this as a compliment and the actual Odyssey gameplay itself is EVEN MORE GRIND CENTRIC than the original game. and significantly more so. 5) The new release is buggy beyond belief (I myself have still not managed to leave the starport I spawned in due to recurrent bugs meaning as soon as I try to equip my loadout the game dies) They had no beta at all and went straight to money grabbing full release that barely even works. 6) Arguably one of the only features of ED to receive maximum marks from everyone and anyone who tried it was its magnificent VR implementation since it was designed around VR from the ground up. It was considered one of, if not THE BEST VR implementations ever made. But no more... This one truly unrivalled, world class feature was squandered: VR has been relegated to back seat status with no further thought or development in over 5 years. And to rub salt into the wounds, much of the new UI no longer functions properly in VR since no VR is done any more. They literally took the only feature of the game to be universally given a top score by those who tried it and said: meh, we don't need this. Even worse: They have removed VR from the actual walking about bit... As soon as you leave your cockpit, the game reverts to pancake mode! THEY REMOVED VR from the one part of the game that would make it most spectacular! Odyssey is really quite a poor example in nearly every regard.
  5. It’s annoying, but what do is when I damage my ship, which invariably happens at some point, I just repair the windows using T1 until they are at about 75% health. Between 52 and 98% health (assuming 50 HP) then they go completely transparent. less than 50% health and the glass starts to spark and smoke for some absolutely arred reason. DU: Perhaps the only game in the world where you have to damage the glass to get it to go clear. par for the DU course, if you ask me.
  6. I dug out a volume the size of half an M core yesterday with zero lag. Smooth as silk took about an hour. Thrice in the last week I have got the red voxel situation where you can’t paste voxels and it shows a “pending operation” error this is accompanied by the game ignoring voxel delete and cut commands. the only way to fix is drop to the desktop and reload the game. Dropping to the menu does not fix this for me. im based in Tokyo and do have a decent connection. But I used to constantly get pending operations last year when few of my team mates used to. I suspect there is some complicated interplay of connection/isp location and other factors involved.
  7. TBH. I don’t care when their “real” release is. So long as the game keeps moving forward at a reasonable pace. that is really the only thing I care about: visible and palpable improvements coming regularly (I mean regularly in the colloquial, non-scientific sense) giving the player base a sense of progression and hope for the future. A gaming audience can suffer either a relative lack of communication or a relative lack of progress without too much pushback . The trouble starts when the gamiers suffers both of the above simultaneously. look at NMS as a shining example. Shoddy af on release and has just released ANOTHER massive patch. 3.50 Prisms, addressing some of the criticism thrown at the somewhat aged rendering and iffy art style (which I personally like, but hey ho). Finally the game will use some of the modern horsepower of those beastly PC graphics cards that some lucky folks were able to buy before the stupid-assed crypto bubble.
  8. Ah. Making parts of your ship out of breast implant material. TBH, you’re very lucky it didn’t go tits up when you tried to land.
  9. Seen the vanilla price of the 3080ti? $1200 before scalping for a 6-10% faster card than the $700 3080. I bet you NVIDIA will phase out the 3080. The free market has spoken. f’ckn hate crypto miners. not entirely accurate as microsoft themselves have put a lot of development into linux code for direct X compatibility as part of their WSL integration and there are a number of modules that allow direct translation for directx compatibility with vulkan. I was under the impression that WSL was there to allow Windows to run Linux code.
  10. Eq8 or whatever tf it’s called doesn’t work on Linux. So zero chance I’m afraid. also no direct X on Linux so you’d have to run it in “pants mode (beta)”
  11. Most of my ship’s weight is warp core and fuel. Remember that fuel in this game is like liquid metal. You can float titanium, bricks, and granite boulders in it since it’s 5kg+ per litre. only rocket fuel is a reasonable weight at 0.8kg per litre. space engines are far more efficient than anything we have right now in real life, to be fair, though, so... like I said earlier. Mass compression in this game allows for insane weights to be squeezed into those tiny containers, warping our perception of how much we’re carrying since elements compress down to just a few liters and there is no wasted space as there would be in real life. let’s take Catalyst 3. I think it’s about 70kg per litre or something. you can fit 1500L into a 1m x 1m cube. That’s about 100T alone for something you could use as a stool! Remember an XS square light in this game (size of a switch) weighs 70kg, too. a 5m x 5m panel of these tiny lights would weigh 28T. since small things weigh so much in this game, engines have to be “wallified” to lift it all. basically balancing is hard.
  12. Whoosh. that one went right over my head... LOL As for the holes.. Solvable, like most problems... Just make a new ground element call them underground cores in several sizes XS S M L that can be placed like static cores, or even make it a feature of current static cores themselves...and prevent "monthly tunnel collapse" within their cubes... Send an email to all the players giving fair warning to place these cores. Build then place these units around or under your base and boom... instant bubble of protected voxels. Also they could have made the tools dig smooth tubes instead of making tunnels that look like large intestines... That way they could have simplified the surface details and massively reduce the amount of information required to faithfully store them... as well as giving us more useful tools for city building or right click "smooth options" in the menu that smooth out the geometry of all the voxels in a large sphere.... THey could have given us proper, squared off geometrical "structural" teraforming tools that can make flat surfaces at any angle, not just ground, instead of pock marked walls that look like they have a case of acne requiring kilo or even megabytes of storage instead of a few dozen bytes. They all would have helped... But no, they gave us a bunch of sub-standard planetary voxel tools which have come back to bite them in the arse.
  13. Dude. Chillax. wow. You sound like you’re taking it personally. Also, replacing the i in shit with a star is really quite pointless if you don’t want to type ‘shit’. ?. Choose a different word, there are plenty. But you are kind of correct about this game being a dictatorship. Or feudal... Though, not sure where the communist bit is coming from, unless you’re talking the US definition of red-peril communism that is basically used to describe a dictatorship once again. there may be some true communist single tier orgs in the game but that doesn’t make the game communist. you were more on point with feudal/dictatorship.
  14. The problem arises from the unnatural disparity between volume and mass in this game. this game uses matter compression to squeeze an unfeasible amount of matter into tiny volumes. I think catalyst 3 is something like 100kg per L and one can fit 120kl in an L container making a 12kT single L container if one so wished., stringing 10 of them together for 120,000 T of cargo capacity per hub. 10 L containers can fit on a small core without problem... and therein IS the problem: ships don’t need to be anywhere near the actual size limits one can build them in this game to carry a reasonable amount of materials.... OR one can overload them with compressed matter and suddenly one needs a wall of elements to move one’s ship. but then they don’t bother to implement physic such as stress, strain or load bearing requirement. * disclaimer: these figures were pulled from my arse since I’m not in front of a PC.
  15. All you would end up with is a bunch of moribund orgs dedicated to skilling up their members. it’s been said time and time and time again; You can’t force people to play together if they don’t want to. there is no real PvP. If PvP is ever properly implemented, including atmo/ground PvP, people will start to want to stick together for safety. just like the reason in real life where people built families and villages and then towns, for mutual support and protection. remove the need for protection and most people end up loners in survival mode apart from a few RPers who build needless shiny structures like Utopia or even our basically pointless 12+ tile Madis MP3. really no point to thoughtlessly adding layers of mechanics onto the game without considering the consequences. Look what heappens when NQ have do so in the past.(patch 0.23, anyone?)
  16. That’s because their “small team of staff” would be more accurately described as “team of small staff” since they appear to be about 13 years old judging by some of the decisions taken on graphic design textures and UI.
  17. Not sure what Gloria Estefan has to do with it... but it’s likely that we are feeling their servers starting to strain under untenable load from all the digging that people have done. that is why finally... after years of people explaining to NQ the flawed nature of their ridiculously pointless-and-redundant planetary voxel persistence model (or alternatively: stupidly believing that NQ had really HAD invented some never-before-seen data storage and retrieval methods) their 100% verbose dig record-keeping has come back to bite them in the arse. it might also be likely that they just can’t afford the bandwidth/processing capacity any longer given they are down to just a dozen or so still-paying customers, ? and have turned down the auto spool-up rate/ max number limit on their virtual servers.
  18. I have been a proponent of Tier 0 materials for land structures since at least 2018. Likewise, mining coal for wood, Tier 2 concrete etc etc. my original threads in the alpha discussion channel got dozens of responses each. Hundreds over all. this same point kept coming back by other people, too, again in the alpha forums. same dozens of responses, getting less over time as people started losing hope. At this point in game’s progress, there really is zero use starting new ideas threads. 1) someone has already said it. 2) the forums are where good ideas go to die. 3) NQ didn’t listen last time (or the time before that, (or the time before that, (or the time before that.))) Still, I suppose it’s fine as a vehicle to vent one’s frustration.
  19. I still play the game almost daily, but I love building and voxels. key points: once you’ve completed the tutorials that tell you to go to sanctuary moon come back to Alioth. You’re wasting your time on Sanctuary, basically. The tutorials are from a time when there was a (previous) vision for the game’s future. And sanctuary has a shitty brown sky. I think it’s a methane world in Elite Dangerous terms. as for cost. As said: 20 Euros is the asking fee. But for that you get 3 months access to the servers. This is the cost of 200g of Angus steak a side of veg and a glass of red wine here in Tokyo, which I regularly consume in about 15 minutes. in that respect, I find it extremely good value.
  20. It’s merely misnamed. It should be called the automatic replacement unit. Not the automatic repair unit. ?
  21. Yes, the proper way would be a ghost, like when copy and pasting. but that probably requires a dev to do some front end coding, so I wouldn’t hold my breath.
  22. If they implemented rockets properly you could still get into space with rockets alone. The fact is that making the L rocket T4 when an XL space engine is T2 is just wrong. especially since rockets are essentially only on or off and you can’t modulate their output power. (Though, technically, you can by pulsing them on and off rapidly with a Lua script, but that feels more like an exploit than intentional)
  23. I think we don’t need disposable rockets. Current liquid ones just need to be tier 2 since they have basically existed since WW2. the rocket skills are also insanely “priced”. Isn’t it something like 3,000,000 XP to train rocket handling up to L5? At least rocket fuel is a realistic weight, unlike the liquid metal our atmo fuel and space fuel is apparently made of on which bricks would literally float. I believe it should be more like this: wings brakes and hover engines atmo engines. and atmo adjusters T1 atmo fuel T1. Rockets, retro rockets, rocket adjusters T2 Rocket fuel T2 space engines T3 space brakes, universal adjusters T3 space fuel T3 warp drive T4 warp fuel T4 anti grav T5 anti grav fuel T5
  24. That’s what I do. I have a short line of voxels about 1m long running along the three edges leading all the way to each corner. then I just remove them once complete.
