  1. Welcome oh Harry Bagel. May your journeys in DU divert your attention from your longer than normal nose
  2. You are forgetting - this is a GAME! .......
  3. There is nothing stopping NQ from adding nuclear propulsion, or other forms of advanced physics elements, to DU. They have however said no WMD for the sake of game balance. Simple as that.
  4. NQ has said more than once that there will not be any weapons of mass destruction - so you can rule that little nuke fantasy from your mind.
  5. Problem, even with that, is that these notes can be faked too. 1000 people from the same org could simply defame someone innocent in this way. Its very open to abuse. Hence the 'friend or foe' system I mentioned above, has nothing to do with rep but with if that individual, or org, or alliance is a known hostile to you, your corp or alliance.
  6. In regards to all this 'digging to attack a base' convo - how do we know a TCU's protective field doesn't extend underground just as it extends up into the air? And if it does extend down its likely it also extends down to the maximum level one can dig down. If this is how things evolve then digging into a base might be the slow way to attack once a TCU's shield is down. It may however be a way to bypass 'kill boxes' built into a base entrance, once shield is down, by digging out of a corridor, around the kill box area, to find and continue down the base entrance.
  7. Nothing wrong with thinking about the possibilities, and you never know what the future may bring as todays "server performance issue" can end up being "tomorrows hardware upgrade" to overcome.
  8. Two main technical limitations need to be overcome (and they may not be) 1) Voxel on Voxel collisions - atm this interaction results in the bouncing of the two constructs (or construct and ground) - which would make a mech walking hazardous to say the least. 2) Some types of moving parts are in a stretch goal, other moving part types will never be implemented. So depending on how you build your mech, and if it uses the stretch goal moving parts, will determine if you can get it to walk, or not. Either way I dont think we will have any form of legged player made machine in game until much further down the track - if at all.
  9. Nothing will be invulnerable (at least not for long) and nothing will be the 'perfect/only way to do something'. Everything will be destructible or able to be circumvented by the right items/skills/tactics. If anything does develop contrary to that then I'm sure NQ will make adjustments so that the game stays both balanced and diverse.
  10. ... wakes to discover he is still in this thread ...
  11. NQ showed a mini game (pong from memory) running on an in game terminal that was created with LUA. So at the very least simple screen games can be made/played within DU. As far as building in a moving construct my guess is that you would have to attach it to your current moving ship. Dont attach engines nor cockpit as they might fireup messing up current ship. Then pnce landing cut and move the mini build out of main ship, attach dynamic core, engines and cockpit then it may work.... im just guessing though.
  12. I stand corrected. Didn't realise the section I was in. Carry on
  13. I think that instead of having the name of REP system a better name and mechanic would be "Friend or Foe/Standings" system that can be set up on both personal and organisational levels, maybe even on an alliance level as well (inherited perhaps?). This would allow like minded groups to determine who are friends, and foes. Relatively 'simple' to do and would work for all manner of groups. This way one persons enemy can be another persons hero with no conflict within the Standings System. Cheers
  14. Though problem is some elements may need to be size related, like engines for example. A bigger engine should make more thrust, all things being equal, than a smaller engine. Conversely if you shrunk a huge engine down to the size of a pencil may make it harder to hit/be damaged in battle. So there are game play reasons why for certain elements this would be a bad idea. Also just from a texture issue perspective, scaling up an object may simply make it look bad due to the texture covering it being magnified and pixellated. Food for thought.
  15. There is nothing to stop people from building games within DU itself. We have paint-ball in real life, why not paint-ball arena's in DU (or similar/other forms of games). That way people who are just after combat (cause all other forms of game play are 'boring') can get their pew pew fix and the rest of us can get on with building worlds
  16. or.... build a ship, that is a gate, use it to do the first and only warp to the probe, remove the dynamic anchor and put in a static one and link ship/gate to it. Start up the gate and get instant access to the new system Feel free to use my idea Cheers
  17. There is nothing wrong with polite debate, which is what happens in the DU forums. Intellectual debate is also welcome here. I know you want to drive visitors to the Zebra site, however derailing existing threads to do so isn't the way to do it. Cheers
