Thanks everyone!
@MasteredRed It was a mix of captain jack and captain shack + his groupAh I figured! When did you first hear about Dual Universe on his channel?

Welcome @Firewerk to the forums! So first off, if you want to find out loads more information, I recommend you check out the FAQ on the forums.
Also mind if I ask which youtuber it was?

This has been discussed to death. However I feel that it's been a year since the F2P thread started, so everything does deserve a valid answer.
So, there was actually a way to avoid the subscription. That is to get a lifetime subscription in the kickstarter and crowdfunding period. How much? $475 USD for the physical rewards pack offered with the kickstarter. I think $425 USD for the digital rewards. I got the lifetime subscription for these reasons. A) I wanted to support Dual Universe and B ) I know that I'll be playing Dual Universe for the amount of time that my investment turns back, which is over two years.
Now Lethys has been doing an excellent job explaining this. There is also a dev blog about it here:
https://devblog.dualthegame.com/2016/04/08/monetization-player-happiness-and-economic-viability/
You can hear it explained by the people personally working on the game that way.
Along with that, here's the way I'm going to put it. Let's take a look at a game like Space Engineers. It's been a big hit, selling many copies, and so on. However you should have noticed that it hit beta at a certain point, with a release planned at some point evidently. This is a simple problem of the fact that not everyone is going to buy Space Engineers at the same rate for extended periods of time. KSH is likely planning to put the cap on it when it no longer has enough profit(if it hasn't already done that). So you will see Space Engineers have a life cycle that's impressive for a B2P game, but would not cut it for an MMO. Infact I'd call myself a detriment due to my status not having to pay monthly.
That's a summary of it all. I tried to touch on points that Lethys didn't cover. Hope you were able to get some more information from it.

You know what.....
Welcome to the forums @Bonfirebabe! First off, this if the FAQ if you haven't read it yet. I highly encourage you to do.
Second, I'd recommend you look around at organizations. I am directing a serious organization myself, but I don't know if it would suit you.
Go ahead and look for an organization. Best of luck!
Once again though, welcome to Dual Universe!

I'm late!
Read this. You'll be knowledgeable after doing so.
Allow me to get to everything now though. Welcome to the forums @Razorwire! I actually assume you've already read the topic above, but I just figured I should get it out of the way.
Anyways, great to see you make a post! Great to see another MWO pilot in here, as well as someone who actively takes an interest in space games! Let me ask you though; what brought you to DU?
Once again though, welcome to Dual Universe!

Welcome Carrefour to the forums!
Read all of this! It is important! Now here's the actual post by me!
So welcome! Glad for you to join us in this wonderful game! Tell me though, where you might have heard about it? I'm curious as to where the game is getting reception from in these stages.

The best part is, like people using miles and pounds, the "Imperial" system is not actually an "Imperial" system, it's an EMPYRICAL system which means "a measurement built upon a person's everyday observations". Just look up how the Yard came to be a measurement. It was King Henry the First's arm length.
Yeah, you might as well change the phrase "the whole nine yards" to "the whole nine arms". The "imperial" systme is THAT stupid.
While the emyprical way of measurement helps at times at expressing VAST numerical values ( like an Astronomical Unit, which is 8 minutes at lightspeed or the dsitance betwene the Earth and the Sun), using such a system to express measurements that are not scientifically accurate, is just a pointless thing.
Just watch any documentary made for 'Murricans. Every time they want to express dsitance, they say "that's about 5 football fields!"
yeah, welcome to 'Murica, they invented a new measurement, Football Fields. Next step, measuring jet speeds not in Mach, but NASCAR tracks. We aren't that bad... most of the time.
Like seriously though. Metric is so easy to learn! It's just my childhood had this bs system engraved into it so my metric sense of distance needs to have a conversion before I can understand it.
Just way too sad.

Late but you might be able to use something like Liquidsky or some other cloud gaming pc provider to run DU
I've never heard of them. I mean maybe but the latency.... actually that would be strange? The client would get a good connection to the server, but yours would be worse than the clients connection to the server.... I'm guessing?
It's like a detached VPN essentially.

I don't think playable alien races would be a good idea for DU.
It would require a huge amount of work, because to do it properly, that alien race would have to have its own unique Elements and crafting recipes, etc.
You can't just slap a new "skin" in the game and call it a "new alien race"...
Agreed. On another note, doing such would also just not... fell right for DU. With the lore set in stone, this would be a botch in the lore that will tear it apart.

Now this right here is inspiration. Can you not see it? It is the pure essence of minimalist design.
If your architecture has so much going on that I can not tell up from down, reflect on this image and tell me where you went wrong.

Oh yeah. Just want to say. Well done on the story. It's an old post but do please make more if it is within your ability to do so.

There of course will be aliens.
They will be us and we are going to be invading the planet.
-
CSYN changed their name to Aeonian Federation. Time to update that once again!
-
Do be patient and subscribe to NQ's DU newsletter found on here: https://dualthegame.com
Wait and you shall find your answers.

I wish I was in Paris.

American. Metric. Case closed on this one.
Like seriously. Imperial is nice for some things, but it's lost it's value to me.

we will(probably) be able to have disconnected free floating premade pieces and we will (probably) be able to have floating disconnected voxels. or we will, if it doesn't interfere with the repair system. when the nda lifts we can test/show how it works
Don't need to worry about NDA friendliness quite there. There are some actual references where this is stated. I have been looking for a number of minutes though. I'm pretty sure it's stated somewhere in here.

Or here.

Good luck finding it. I know it is referenced though.

Maybe if we are talking gene splicing and we generate a new near human species that is and isn't human... then I can see it working. Beyond that, no.
No. I'm very sure NQ has stated that there would not be any genetically altered humans going on the Novark. This was in response to furies. For the life of me though I could not find the reference to this.
You can see though why this makes sense from a lore point of view. Having an impure human genepool would be a problem for making a new human colony. There are too many factors at risk for humanitie's last ditch effort.

I haven't done these in a while! Been just a little sidetracked in thought lately but welcome to the Forums @supermega!
That is an FAQ post. Since you aren't a Gold Backer or above, that is going to be your best(and really only source besides asking someone in the community) about the game.
Onward to the main topic though! How did you find out about the game recently? I'm curious about how people have been finding this gem nowadays.
Once again though, welcome to Dual Universe!

Wow. Thank you for making my post a lot shorter.
First off, welcome to Dual Universe. Second off, thanks for reading all pinned topics. Third off, if you have any questions, feel free to ask around!
Although I want to ask, where did you hear about Dual Universe from?
-
Hello @BlackOps and welcome to the forums!
First off, here is a forum page that has all information Dual Universe that you currently need to now. Otherwise the first priority to read.
Secondly, glad to see you have a hobby of shooting people in the face. Great hobby to have! Sadly the founder packs are non-transferable and each account belongs to one player. You can't obtain another person's account as that is against the rules. However though, there are going to be another round of packs with the only difference really being the fact that some rewards were removed, like lifetime subscription, so there's that!
Tell me, what do you want to do in this game now that you have found it?
Once again, welcome to Dual Universe.
Can't purchase game
