  1. I was thinking more of ground-based transport from say one city to another. It might not be a good idea to have 500 ships floating around at once.
  2. How about a "tank"? You make a tank block, fill it with whatever fluid you want and swim around in it or whatever ot use that to store the fluids.
  3. Short Answer: You will not be able to do that, and it would be best to delete this ASAP as this goes against the founding principles of DU so you don't get flamed. Long Answer: There will be heavy restrictions on Lua scripting so you won't be able to do these kinds of things. Dual Universe supposedly is supposed to be a social MMO so Novaquark will be deliberately limiting automation to encourage people working together. And while it is possible to automate some processes to make your like easier like say, fly-by-wire, full automation will not be enabled. However, Will be implemented so scripts will run only if a player is nearby. And when I said to delete this ASAP, its because a certain member of the community has a tendency to claim that people who want automation are antisocial "carebears" who only do PVE grinding and then say that its boring.
  4. So, what is the boundary between "automated" and "computer-assisted"
  5. But if there are only triangles, the pentagonic triangles blend in.
  6. Technically you can still aim at 33 degrees left of center on the fov
  7. I know that its still not going to make all perfect equilateral triangles because equilateral triangles only can form flat surfaces. But we won't have PENTAGONS sticking out like a sore thumb.
  8. I'm not against multicrewing, and will gladly work as a deck hand(probably) given a fair pay. I am however, for futurist technology, espacially considering that without automation, it will take hundreds of people to run nuclear reactors and such. On the other hand, going full Dune could also be interesting.
  9. Say you got a highly automated ship that you take into combat. Targetting: at least for me, I would think its a good idea to put people to decide where and when to shoot, and things fet nore difficult when I have to try to manage 5 targets at once even if I have 100 turrets on my ship. Damage Control: Due to the random nature of damage control, its impractical to place self repair bots everywhere because it will get really heavy, and you need a full-blown pathfinding ai and a robot able to control the nanoformer and other stuff and.... EMP strikes/electronic warfare/cyberwarfare : such weapons might be a useful tool in countering automated systems, requiring mechanical or human-controlled backups. Not easily programmable objects: Instead of doing Turret.aim (target1) Turret.fire You might have to do --forgive me for my horrible fake code Radar.getfirsttarget(xsin, xcos, ysin, ycos) --for the unit circle in the plane of the radar and another one for going up in latitude in 3d sphere Turretconvert(xsin, xcos, ysin, ycos)--convert this to x and y rotations for the turret Turret.aim (23radians, 15radians) T Turret.fire
  10. Isnt this game model inherently p2w since rl money = DAC = ingame money =power?
  11. How about each tile being a triangle instead of a hexagon?
  12. @blazemongerJust don't respond. I don't want this quickly deteriorating into a salt mine. tl:dr Lua is for assisting players with macros, not total automation, and JC's vision is people working togather.
  13. My initial thoughts when creating this thread was that limiting automation while giving tools to automate was contridictory.
  14. Yes, but warfare should also be about quality, not only quantity. People who invedt in higher-quality weapons system should get better results. In fact, the lack of automation may lead to the "big guns" senario as people try to cram as much firepower per person. Minmaxing will happen either way.
  15. How? By making the necessary industrial base to create such massive ships take more then one person, by using random elements lime damage control to throw a wrench into your automated machine, by forcing people to automate everything manually, by allowing fine-control and "overclocking" by manual control.
  16. In the Dune universe, there was a giant uprising against computers and they were banned. Of course, I don't claim to be knowledgeable in Dune lore. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Butlerian_Jihad Perhaps Dual Universe is actually Dune Universe?
  17. To be fair, I have no idea how much automation is/will be acheiveable with Lua because of NDA.
  18. Imma qoute this because it seems like this didn't post properly.
  19. You cant be griefed if you don't own anything. As for whatever you are administrating over gets griefed, its your job to handle the crisis. If you can't deal with it, you probably shouldn't be a leader.
  20. Well, the point of scripting in real life is to automate as much things as possible. Of course, I might have misinterpreted how NQ said they were going implement scripting: it may more Schenzen.io with coding complementing logic circuits instead of ComputerCraft with redstone logic being an aid to computer scripts.
  21. Sure, NQ can do whatever, but having the limits of lua scripting being arbitrarily limited seems illogical to me. I mean, if we completely took away scripting, it could be explained as the universe being like Dune. However, attempting to limit automation while providing tools for automation doesn't make sense to me from a visionary standpoint.
  22. I think plants should regenerate because they are freakin lifeforms that reproduce! Perhaps even have a soil type so certain types are good for different crops or biome regeneration.
  23. Are in-game scripting and limited automation two fundamentally incompatible concepts? The reason why computers were invented is to automate, and I don't see any other practical applications for scripting other then automation (including automating in-game games).
