  1. The new supporter pack will give access to Alpha2 is the last info.
  2. Remember these new packs will grant access to Alpha2 where we are currently still in pre-Alpa.
  3. When you can't maintain your argument.. change it.. and casually ignore any counter arguments. You have either been involved i boring uninteresting fleets or never have and are just talking from when you heard.
  4. Both of you really do not understand what goes in with regards to server-client communication in EVE in a system like in the last huge fight which is what I am referring to. ALso, anyone who thinks EVE is about target-orbit-hit F1 shows a lack of knowledge on the game. Manual piloting is an important part of the game, so is fleet tactics and strategy. I find the notion some have that DU will be all 'by hand' with no automation or ability to set and follow a course/route to a specific point funny and silly. While it may be these will be part of how players set up their ship scripting instead of NQ providing these as standard or as an add-on (which I actually expect to happen), te functionality will be available. Lastly, why do some seem to persist in expecting NQ develop a nice game for nerds with programming skills which really have nothing to do with the game play and frankly will scare/chase away a good number of potential players is beyond me. Maybe it's the desire to be the in game Bill Gates who controls the way ships are flown, I don't know. NQ will cater to their biggest possible customer base that fits their vision, thus they will provide for flight mechanics that allow this group to come in and stay. They are not in business to cater to nerds, they are in the business of making money buy selling access to a hopefully great game.
  5. I think you underestimate the amount of data and events that needs to be shared between all players in the system.. By a lot.. And EVE has been dead for about 15 years apparently.. Frankly I'd welcome any other space MMO to come close in sheer size, depth, possibilities and player numbers. Frankly I would not be able to call out any others.
  6. I will be heading out on exploration in DU once it goes live, no idea what we'll come across yet but it's going to be fun.. and yes, there will be a lot of sitting around searching for something.
  7. I think people coming from an EVE background need to realize that while JQ has on several occasions said EVE is a big influence and inspiration for him and DU, he does not refer to how you fly ships as that is completely and totally different between the two games. DU will not be nor become 'EVE: The Next Generation'.. I see the similarities much more in the political and economical systems and IMO it's there where DU will be 'won or lost' if you like, it's something a lot of people either ignore or do not see and which makes DU even more a community driven game than EVE is (which really is saying something). That said, the 'flying spaceships' factor needs to be done right for the game to work overall.
  8. Difference is that to fly a capital ship in DU you will probably require a good number of player as crew while in EVE you need only 1. Also the chances of this many ships in the same place is much less likely for a number of reasons. i mentioned before I fly 50-80 ship roaming fleets several times a week and frequent specialised 12 ship fleet with logistics in Wormholes. These fleets are a lot of fun for the action in game as well as the banter and enjoyment on comms. I do not see these happening in DU really as focus will be more on multi crew ships and the whole navigation mechanic is much different. 'Roaming' starsystems really does not work in the DU universe.
  9. If 5% of a 30.000 player alliance makes the move they will instantly have 1500 organized members in game. I know of at least two big alliances with preparation ongoing to establish a presence in DU. I think you underestimate the organizational strength of some of these alliances.
  10. These events are far more important than a lot of people realize. A big factor in space exploration is cost and what SpaceX is doing is reducing those cost by an enormous amount. Also, and IMO, with people like Elon Musk who have a daring and positive vision plus the ability to make it happen there's hope for us humans.. To me he is the real life Zefram Cochrane ..
  11. In theory the mechanic Dual universe has in development looks better suited with better overall performance but there will always be trade offs and we will have to wait and see how these pan out. DU will have a long way to go before it can claim to be competing with EVE in sheer player numbers and frankly, while there are similarities between the two, these are very different games. I very much enjoy the fleet roams we have several times a week in EVE, it's a couple of hours of fun, banter and hectic action with often surprising tactical choices being made. As it stands I do not see any such events happen in DU for any number of reasons. While both are open world sandbox style games, EVE does have a developed and strong universe, political system, commerce and Industry. DU has none of these yet and it will take a good bit of time for the development of these. Frankly, I do not take the existing orgs too serious and it's quite obvious many involved really have no idea what they are doing or getting into. The moment some of the bigger alliances in EVE move into DU there will be a number of conflicts between those who think they understand the game and those who bring structure, organisation and leadership. I know some of the bigger EVE alliances will move in to the DU universe once it becomes an actual working game. They will come in force and establish themselves quickly.
  12. While we may see a full game loop by this year's end, I do not see any chance the game will hit release for at least another 18 months. Seeing how we are still pre-alpha, best we can expect IMO is we'll be early beta by December
  13. An example of botting/scripting we see frequently in EVE (and is dealt with swiftly when discovered): Player has 100 pcs of an item and uses a script to put up a sell order for one at the lowest price. If someone buys the item the bot immediately puts up another single item for the same price. This influences the market because you may have a couple of the same items as well but choose to put it on the market for a bit higher price because there is only one item at a lower price and you know the item sells well. No need to outbid a single item right?
  14. There really is only one other game with an economy model in place similar to what DU is planning and that's EVE. CCP will permaban almost immediately if you are found to be scripting/botting the markets with no warning or questions asked, it's down with the hammer and your account is blocked. Rightly so TBH..
  15. Having an API will be pretty much a requirement in my opinion. Given the expected depth of the game it will be very hard to not have one.
  16. Signal Cartel will do what we do best, be service oriented, neutral explorers and investigators while following a non aggression credo. We will be around and provide services, information and support through a number of programs which will be developed when the game loop is complete. Signaleers are nomads, we roam and travel, often alone but sometimes in teams, to do what we do. The initial plans are to create a mobile base of operations for the core group managing the org which will travel the stars, find and explore strange new things and share what we discover with those willing to listen. SIgnal Cartel has been successful in creating a counter culture in EVE Online where our reputation and Credo often shields us from harm or aggression. It is our intention to do the same in Dual Universe. We're proud to be able to say 'Reputation Tank is Best Tank'
  17. It's too easy to just brush YouTube Orgs aside as 'oriented around a single person' or 'Youtubers are a joke' as they are not (as a rule). Several Youtube channels have very well organized communities which I know will enter DU when it goes public They come several thousand strong with a core group which will be able to establish themselves quickly with proper top down management structure. Their Youtube 'outlet' will easily hit 1500+ viewers when live. There is nothing wrong with that as they will supply a strong, quick and steady base for a lot of new players to flow into where a number of currently 'active' orgs very much are really disorganized and I predict will fall apart because the org leadership really has no idea about what it is like to run an org in game (it's all fun and games right now). Of course there will be the trolls and quick fame seekers, but quite a few will provide a fundamental and productive contribution to the game.
  18. Quoting the full post would be as well btw.. edit: not reading full thread can sometime be an oops moment as well.. We need the ability to delete or own posts.. NQplease..
  19. It's fine.. Generally, an i5 with 1060 GFX, 16GB RAM and 1TB SSD will suit pretty much whatever using 1 1080p monitor.. Multimonitor go 1070, 4K (basically 4x1080p) go 1080 I know very generic, but IMO it's basically standard 'minspec'
  20. Well, I can't speak for anyone but myself and in my opinion the days MacOS was the better OS for applications you mention are well behind us. Today it is a personal preference more than anything else. Any PC you buy which would be able to handle Dual Universe will be more than capable to handle anything you currently do on your Mac Mini. If you wish to remain on MacOS for any non gaming related work, you could opt for creating a dual boot and set up a Hackintosh.. (look it up.. there's plenty of info on the net). The applications you mention will run as well, if not better on today's Windows based hardware.
  21. @Marcovitch The eventual system requirements for DU are not yet known with only the requirements for the (not yet optimized) pre alpha builds available. As Lethys stated though, expecting a game which draws heavily on the GFX capabilities of your hardware is not realistic. You are basically running 6 year old laptop/mobile hardware in your MacMini and as a general rule this hardware, while fine for everyday web/mail/mediaconsumption use, is not intended to be used for such applications. Having dedicated GFX hardware with it's own memory is not a luxury in this case.
  22. It's clear you have problems with understanding basic quoting.. It's all good kid.. enjoy life..
  23. @mrjacobean I can easily verify what his claims are worth as I know (both in game and in person) some of the people he talks about. I know he does not get his information from actual involvement but from watching videos and reading internet posts. I would be happy to and challenge him to show what he is capable of, something conveniently ignored. It's possible that a lack of understanding of English is a reason for his continuous misunderstanding of context and arguments. It's also possible he is just the kid I think he is trying to 'be that guy'.. I could be wrong, sure and if I am I will be the first to admit it, apologize and move on but so far all I see is rhetoric on repeat and a stream of misinformed arguments. I have no hatred of someone who disagrees with me at all. I do not "hate" anyone. The guy just can't stop ripping one comment out of context and use it as if it was used to argue something else. I'm all for open and frank arguments and discussion, I get neither from him. All we get is "you said this (nope), You claim that (nope) and this is the truth.. You are an idiot as I am right" But It's obvious that there is no arguing or discussion here so I guess it's best to just ignore and let him rant. Concern there is though he will just inject himself in any discussion to get he attention he craves.
