Ever pleasant are the joys of true friendship,

Treasured; the words that bring us through hardship.

A friend will bring his fellow back on his feet,

To lift him, to bring his soul back from the pit,

To be enlightened with the light of the living,

To be raised above the grim throes of the struggling,

How pleasant are the joys of true fellowship!

Treasured; the loyalty of sure companionship.

  2. I've been waiting for a heated discussion over this sensitive topic to emerge from the beginnining of the thread. Now that it actually came to it, it ended surprisingly fast, indeed. I would've been interested in the further development of the discussion though.

  3. I hope to hell you are not serious. If you are then i better not see your name in my posts again, and i better not hear anything from you directed towards me or anyone i know again. Of course there is more than 2 genders, why do you think we have transgender people, and nonbinary people, and agender people, ect... Because i am personally a transgender girl myself and i can tell you for a fact that there are definitely more than 2. its a spectrum not just 1's and 0's, or this and that. There's a million possibilities, but like every other ignorant person I've come across in my time of being on this Earth, nothing is going to change your thoughts, so please see yourself off of this topic and don't reply.

    Hello, KhittyKhatt.

I will advise you not to make this an issue on the Dual Universe Forums. We have dwelt in peace for well over a year (getting close to two, actually) without any strife from any sexual orientation or religious factions. Be a darling and keep it that way, will you?

Kael is not a rash person and from what I've seen and heard from you, it's not unlikely that you are overreacting. To be straight with you, you are overreacting. Kael's post was neither discrimination nor bigotry and is well in line with the Forum rules.

We all appreciate the occasional intense discussion, but this path leads us nowhere but barking up the wrong tree. Real life issues belong in the DM or off the Forums - not on it.

Calling names is not a sign of maturity either and I will humbly but in all seriousness tell you to sort your issues out with him privately.

Kael, let's calm down a bit, shall we? There are worse things out there, but I understand your point completely.

    Cheers.

  4. soooooooo

it's really hilarious to listen to your story via TTS while working - those french sentences are just a blast.

I hope I get to read Ch4 soon, it's a very good story so far.

It's a bit hard to follow all those sidestories (I didn't get why jamius was fighting in the mall) - perhaps focus on one story for a longer time? Like 1/3 of a chapter or so, that would make it much easier to get into that story again.

There are some good plottwist in that story - keep that up. I like it when you read a story and you're like "yeah ok, standard story, I know what'll happen next" and then it really happens - but in the end it changes completely and the only thing you think is: WTF? I'd love to see that here too - I did anticipate Melle's friends or children to be in RES. It wasn't that of a plottwist to me (still good though) but I hope there is ....more. A deep, confusing, complete gamechanger. If that makes any sense?

    "

    Hm...quite a review!

Firstly, thank you for taking the time to read and go in-depth into the lore: thank you very much.

Secondly, I leave some things open for the future. Everything is documented in separate files - for example, you might not remember, Regis telling Oceane that "Father" didn't want her to know too much. That's still going to come in the future, because she hasn't found out who (or what) Father is. Being human, she definitely will ask later on. Making sure there are little holes here and there to fill up, ensures the story is a constant dance between decisions of the past, problems of the present and worries of the future - this world in the FiT Arc is one heading to an apocalypse. I haven't dwelt much on that fact, but given that the majority of the scenes in the last three chapters have happened inside a single Facility, I hope it is understandable. I am more of an "open world" writer: making stories dwell in a confined space is a quite a challenge. I do not doubt your eyes picked up on the struggle to keep the story interesting.

Thirdly, I love books that involve the reader thinking as well. Jamius was shooting down a UMF vehicle and tactical unit at the same time RES was attacking the Facility. Why, would he do that? Good question. Now that Mistral has him cornered, we should be able to find out why in the world, he would be aiding a terrorist group. Or maybe, not. Hm... I think I shouldn't reveal that so early down the line.

Next point: Yes, it is quite hard to follow all the side stories, and even harder without reading the previous chapters. The aim was for a connected flow of words, each chapter being the result of the previous one and the cause of the next one. Somewhere down the line, I overdid it. You aren't the first person to voice the concern that the stories are getting too complex and I will certainly take that into account while I write the next chapter. There's no hard limit on how many chapters this will take, so those side stories are little pockets of fuel to keep the vehicle moving. It's all in the linked links linking links!

Plot twists? Hm... I can certainly add a few more... It might take a while to get a very deep one...imagine if Professor Set is Melle's husband...no? That definitely sounds lacklustre and it's something anyone could have thought. Plot twists will be done, I can certainly do them, the problem will be cutting down on the complexity.

Thank you very much for your review. It reinforced some points and gave me a whole new look on others. I look forward to writing more.

    Cheers.

We did say we would be reaching out to some organisations, no?

Well, we did and are currently doing so. In celebration of successful negotiations with the Chuckling Casket, I decided to release this piece of graphic art.

So, how do you seal a swashbuckling deal with a Chuckling Casket? The answer is simple to the savvy:

    Hello, again.

Chapter 3 is out. We had some problems with the record keeping machines. The views were many, complex and as such, it was unusually tasking for the AIs to handle. Fear not, though. After many runs and reruns, editing lines of code and updates to the shell of the core systems, we finally managed to make it through.

The last Chapter's Easter Egg was Halo381: the description of his profile picture was quite obvious, no? You can click on the word "Yoda" and you'll find yourself at his profile page.

Don't bother searching this Chapter for an Easter Egg. The AI was too stressed and flatly turned down the idea of another hurdle before logging off to play Pacman...

I wish you all the best, dear readers. Do give feedback if you notice something or have some ideas to share: we are always ready to listen.

You can find the online version and the ".pdf" attachment here

Till the next Chapter comes out,

    Cheers.

Spawn points might be relative to either the "container" construct of a given point on the surface of the object that the player was on before logging off. The point is that Dual Universe is persistent, constantly updated with data and actions by other players in the Universe.

Where your client stops updating, others continue. I don't see it as a hard task to synchronise locations/log out points with the information constantly streamed from the cloud. It's easy to update other variables, so a point along X,Y, Z should be no different. The problem will be tracking such physics in space. Where a ship is still intact, you log on where you logged off. Where a ship is destroyed, you log in at the nearest Res node. Where the part of the hull is somehow removed from the body, the computer simply does what it did before:

Where was the player location on the surface? Spawn there.

Is the surface destroyed separately/ or along with the hull? Spawn player at destroyed location.

But, wait a minute, that would mean spawning a player in the middle of nowhere in space, no?

Quick fix: Spawn player at nearest open res node.

Where no Res node is open, you go all the way back to the Arkship area.

It's not perfect, but it certainly is a start.

    Cheers.

  8.
If someone joins our(Or someone else) org and then the game comes out, we should make it so we can have a dedicated spot for our people to spawn. Will this exist?

    "

    I promise I won't be a killjoy here, but...why is this necessary?

According to the lore, everyone came from the Arkship, no? Binding player initial spawn points to the organisation's HQ or Res node will, to a degree, hamper the social interaction.

It's one thing to limit the interaction of your members with the outside world, and another thing entirely if your focus is for the ease of the players. Players should be the ones to make the journey to your HQ, or, if you will, just place a res node at the Arkship area, or a star gate...or an outpost. When there's a need, it's wonderful to innovate something to fill that need.

But, your suggested method needs some more explanation in my opinion. Why is this necessary for everyone? What problem do you hope to solve? Is this how it should be solved? Is this the best way to resolve it, and why do you think so?

    Cheers.

  9. The amount of stupidity this forum provides never ceases to amaze me.

Don't stop though, I need something to read while I drink my coffee and fuck off at work.

    "

    Dang, Cybrex.

Does anyone else think it we should somehow limit the amount of orgs being created? I don't know how but the amount of orgs is crazy.

You know, Sakej...This was discussed in detail here

Finally, Chapter 2 is out and below. It took a while, yes: I had to do 3 days' worth of editing and retyping. The first and second versions of the chapter simply did not pass the quality benchmark for me.

Ah... The Easter Egg for Chapter 1 is the first mention of the name: Jamius. Click on it and you will be redirected to NQ-Nyzaltar's profile page. For those of you with sharp eyes, you'll note that the letters of the word are slightly larger than the rest of the text in the chapter.

This chapter has another Easter Egg in it, it's up to you to guess who it is.

I'm having a few problems attaching the file to the editor. It would seem that there is a limited amount of space allocated to each account. Until I find a way to clear all my previous attached files without deleting them from their respective posts, you'll have to make do with reading it here. Attached to the post, is the .pdf version of Chapter 2.

Kindly do remember that we are open to working with other organisations; it would be wonderful if we had the stories of three or four organisations written in one joint effort.

I wish you all the best.

    Cheers.

It needs more references from professional international sources, I think. I took a look at the current ones. They are all from gaming websites or straight from the Dual Universe blog. In other words, it's content straight from the creators of the game and their fan boys in Wikipedia's eyes. If we could get verified news from online and hardcopy magazines, verified critics and sites that have little to no association with MMO's it could go a long way. Some of the sentences need to be restructured too. It will take a while, but I'll get into it as soon as I can.

    Cheers.

    Ha!

    "Darn noobs..."---Jamius, Frozen in Time.

I loved the name: "Duals" rather than "Dualeers" (which sounds excessively forced in my opinion).

    Pioneers - taken.

    Capsuleers - taken.

    Passengers - taken.

Arkians --- It sounds remarkably like Arcadians...I can't remember where I heard that from.

Arkers - We carry Arks...or make them...No offense.

Novarkites - Is the best of the "Nova" names to me. Novarkers and Novarkians sound too superfluous. To keep it simple, Novarks would have done, where it not for the fact that the name seems to imply that there were plenty more Novarks than one. The name represents the plural form in my opinion.

In conclusion, "Novarkites" and "Duals" are my best choices, though from the looks of it, the former is not a popular option.

    Cheers.

The Aether welcomes Devious_T to the family. It's always great to have a new bright mind and fresh blood joining us. There will be a poem shortly...when more people join us.

There will be some updates to The Aether soon, as well. There's no plot twist intended in our strategy and primary focus. We will continue to exist as a neutral team.

In the coming weeks, we will be reaching out to other organisations of interest to solidify and renew what old connections we had back in the day while laying down terms of agreement with the new and notable members of the Dual Universe Community.

We are very much alive and passively recruiting, but us being us, we're a mostly reserved group of mature people.

    Till we see again,

    Cheers.

A week ago, The Aether released the prologue of the Frozen in Time Arc. The first chapter was to come out shortly after that, but I had a premature writer's block, being quite unsure how to move from there. Invigorated with new ideas (and an ironical cold I caught a day ago), the Frozen in Time Arc is moving again.

There's going to be lots of things going on at the same time and a lot of unexpected left turns.

Devious_T is a part of The Aether now and our dear readers can be sure of having a steady stream of world class content in the coming weeks and months.

The Easter Egg is hidden somewhere inside Chapter 1, along with the prominent member hinted at. As usual, if it is too much trouble downloading the attachment, you can always read the online version here. Kindly let us know if you experience any trouble accessing the stories featured there.

The next chapter will have another Easter Egg and member of Dual Universe hidden between the lines.

I wish you all good luck finding it, and hope you enjoy.

    Cheers.
