  1. "That was...different from what I expected. "Are you going to do that or should I go ahead?" "
  2. "It's on TeamSpeak, I guess. See <REDACTED>someone</REDACTED> for an invite."
  3. "We can ask Nyzaltar to explain. How will DPUs be limited in terms of power or quality? Will there be quality classifications, and if so, how will they be clssified? There, now that's better." "10000 lines of code? Captain, captain, why would you put yourself through so much trouble? That's what the Aether is here for!"
  4. "Scripts, DPUs and necessity will dictate. Nothing stops you from looping a little audio that keeps repeating the same thing at the start/running/ending of an event. The developers did say that fan made music is not on their road-map to Alpha, but then again Nyzaltar did hint that it might be possible to do that. What the developers migh just do is provide generic audio clips that say the simples of things. You're free to speculate what those might be. "
  5. "There might be another way to specify the DPU limits. According to the blog, the image shown of the DPU consisted of outgoing connections/slots. They could classify the DPUs based on how many slots there are per tier. Of course, this is only speculation and ultimately, it's up to them to decide."
  6. "The Ninjas taught us the importance of melee. Hundreds of years after, they are still revered. Just so you know, I'm the gentleman with the "100 foot" basillica. "
  7. "Well, there has to be a limit of some kind. Higher quality DPU's should be more expensive than lower quality ones. A core i3 costs less than a core i7, for example. There has to be reason why certain ships handle more function more efficiently than others. While the "cost per code line" does seem a bit extravagant, I fully agree with quality-tier DPUs. "
  8. "Contrary to popular opinion, I think this is an essential feature. Imagine what the poor server will be force to contend with in four to seven years' time, if people can't delete their character. Some players will get banned, others will get humiliated, organisations will fall and so on. Players will, time and time again, want to start over. I wonder whether the developers have discussed this possibility? Great idea."
  9. "Cybrex already started a thread to counter this issue. IT's pinned to the Arkship Pub. Please reference it instead. Thank you."
  10. "With the importance of hacking coming to light, the less the automated scripts the better. Or you'll just have to secure your scripts with jargon and intelligence. You won't want someone using your ship to quality check into a star or finding out how many other structures your craft can ram through."
  11. "You'll need thrust for that. A whole lot of thrust. That means you'll need fuel. A massive or even insane amount of it. Gravity is an active factor in Dual Universe which makes it impossible to have something floating in air without thrust holding up. Is it possible to make floating islands, probably. Will it be efficient? You're better off making powered platforms (you can sell the blueprints for revenue and still keep your floating glory)."
  12. "The developers said there will be aliens--well, animals-- and they'll most likely be superficial active or active (I borrowed a leaf from your book Kiklix). They just don't know if it will be ready in time for the Alpha."
  13. "I suggest you check this post: here and here. They won't tell you everything, but Nyzaltar is like an Oracle. He'll answer if you ask him."
  14. "Good day. After some eight hours of work, I'm glad to announce to everyone that The Aether has its own website. I sincerely encourage everyone to have a look at this beautiful piece of web data. As always, any suggestions and thoughts will be deeply appreciated. Don't be bothered by the ads. Once Alpha launches, Beta is well underway, or I find we have enough members, I'll pay to move the site to the Premium Plan. Right now, I don't think it's cost effective to pay $12 per month for something that's basically still in its cosmetic stage. I'll be expecting your feedback. Thanks. "
  15. "For active elements: short distance/intra-planetary portals. Who wants to burn immense amounts of fuel or spend hours getting from one side of the planet to another? For Superficial working elements: laptops, smartphones or any handheld device. Hacking and communicating with interfaces should be interesting, except we can script this into the HUD. "
  16. "Slow down, Captain! Hacking and tracking will be really intense, but, the game shouldn't be made easy for people to do commit crimes and get away. Only smart people succeed in that and smart people think and plan."
  17. "Wonderful! Espionage would just be more interesting then. But, the changing of names should be present or the plastic surgery is all for naught. What do you think?"
  18. "That depends on what the cannon is firing and the capabilities of the cannon. Something that large should have a zoom in view, or an intelligent long range IFF. Otherwise, it's just a good looking architectural piece to be blown to bits. Secondly, it depends on what the cannon is firing and at what speed. The speed of light is 186,000 miles per second. Let's assume that the exterior of the planet's outer atmosphere is 300 miles. That means it would take the laser 0.00161290323 seconds to reach space. And lasers are known to have broken the record of lightspeed: read this article. However, if it was a solid projectile, it would of course take longer."
  19. "This train has no stops. Not until the Beta release!"
  20. "The point is that, an object within the gravitational field of a larger body won't be subject to the same strain as on object trying to enter the gravitational field from the outside. That's why satellites, though fragile maintain their structural integrity, in most cases, till the end of their lifespan. A probable factor could be that they orbit within or just outside of the earth's atmosphere. Both locations are well within the earth's gravitational field--an asteroid coming from outer space: not so much. I'm glad you understand."
