  1. You are wrong. At beginning it will be chaos, people will build as they want. But as people get more power and resources, there will be players who will create hubs and have complete control over it. And others will come because it will be effective and comfortable to live there and work there because they make more profit by more working and less running around. That will be biggest bonus that cities will offer. Not chaos created by many people, but order created (or orchestrated) by few.
  2. In short, what Lethys wrote. Now get your as.... to kickstarter and get gold pack at least:-) PS: Ruby is best:-)
  3. Scalable Components Everyone expects that there will be bigger and bigger things built in this game. So I was thinking about how are you planning to do it with the pre-set functional components. Those seem to have static size and static stats/power. That would seriously limit some ships and when you look at 10 different capital-class ships, they would have same looking engines for example, just different number of them. And if someone made really big thing and wanted to move it, it would be bad if he had resources for it but was limited by too small sizes of components. How about introducing scalable-components where it's reasonable? Let's start with power plant (reactor or core, you name it), then continue with engines. These are components that I'm most afraid of as different size ships will need different size components. As these should always follow some pattern, you could let us to simply choose the intended power of the Engine (using slider) and that's it. You could drag these around as any other component, change it's size and the textures of object would simply adjust automatically. It's no hard thing to code with the tech you already have and simple to balance with those pre-set tiers (you can also add new ones in updates anytime). When you make something X times bigger, it will simply need X times more + Y extra resources (Y resources is kind of technological fee, so the price of big stuff rises exponentially). This example can of course be taken to any scale stuff, not only the biggest ships. Future idea -> Functional Component Blueprints And if you wanted to eventually bring this one level higher, there could be new type of blueprint: Functional Component. Players could design own components using voxels, colors, etc. and select their type. The resources and stats would be depending on mass of the object and player could see them during the process. During this process he could also select one of his ship blueprints and this would show little frame on the screen with information how much power would this component give to the ship. For example, you would make small engine and select your cruiser, the tooltip would say "Engines: 12% of optimal power, current max speed: 15 m/s". While this could be super useful to many components, weapon systems would still have to be limited and couldn't be created this tool. Probably...
  4. Are you asking why DUAL Universe? Well, it looks like I found out by slightly changing the logo!
  5. YouTube link here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZxYVJ52_wlI Hello everyone! You probably know that Alpha won't start earlier than in first half of 2017 and the fact you ended here means you are interested how to prototype your creations before we actually can do so in Alpha. So, I did some research and forget Blender and other hardcore 3D editing tools. Let's grab MagicaVoxel and start prototyping fast. The result won't be as accurate as you want them to be in-game, but why wasting time with perfection now, right? You can use this tool to quickly plan ahead and use these creations as schemes for later. 6. Creative mode - nope. Designer mode - definitely yes. You will be able to work on your blueprints in some kind of virtual space. In my eyes these two are the same, but what developers thought was simply that the game will have only one shard, one mode, so there will be no other separated mode like Creative. But it doesn't mean there won't be same functionality that Creative mode would offer, it will just be as a tool inside the game, not standing aside. This game needs players to be able to build more complex construct blueprints and they already confirmed that.
  7. It's like asking for Titanic ticket in 1895 :-) But seriously, I'm sure there will be giveaway for beta and additional Alpha testers selected from the forums.
  8. I hoped there will be longer/uncut footage too. Or are there any player recordings of their gameplay?
  9. If they make API for it, I will gladly make some iOS App :-)
  10. My answer to those who don't like safe designing in virtual solo-instance inside DU: If I recall correctly, developers said there will be way to design stuff in-game, they referenced the Inception syndrome (in this case it will be system in system), so we will be able to use in-game editor, which is literally just the game in solo-instance. And I see no problem in it. Do you think it will break immersion? No way.. in civilization building game we need tools and options so we can make creations as in real world. So logically there are two ways and you are free to choose what suits you better: Approach 1 - design blueprint in virtual system/tool -> test it in virtual system/tool -> manufacture it or sell the blueprint copy Approach 2 - build whatever you want directly Both of these are required, but Approach 1 is safe and ONLY possible way to make really nice and great creations without risking that someone comes and destroy your creation in middle of process. This game would die really quickly, because the creative people would just leave it immediately after first such experience. There must be way to design safely and have these blueprint masters permanently linked to your account (and if you delete them, they should be recoverable through support ticket). And that's ok, we are talking about plans here, not physical creations. Once you make them, they can and should be destroyable. But with the plans, with enough resources you can rebuild it. Now, to Mr. Faul... I think that your ideas are nice, but this in-game editing will probably already work very similar way, it just won't be standalone, you need to launch the game, log-in and enter the editing mode. Considering size of their team, this is only way to go for now. In future, maybe they will separate it, who knows. But I don't think it's necessary. It would mostly be helpful to us only right now, because we are bored and waiting :-) And finally just few things of support for the devs if they read this I'm ruby backer, love the idea and all you are planning. I also like that you are realizing that if you let players to make chaos, they will. And complete chaos and destruction without no backups and basic safeties (for example, builder who spent 1000 hours building space station should have the original blueprint permanently protected and linked to his account) would mean death for this game. There must be balance and this game needs all kinds of players. But without builders, there will be no civilization to fight for, only eternal chaos - guaranteed. If that would happen, even if I pledged a lot into this game, I would simply leave it. So don't mess up and keep your promises please because your dream is mine now. I'm going to stay around to make positive posts on your way to make sure the roadmap won't change dramatically just because of few hater with no development experience (this is not related to Mr. Faul, he is cool guy and with plenty of great ideas) :-)
  11. Check the MagicaVoxel Renderer, there is option to render your cubic shapes with same rendering mechanism -> it will auto make the slopes based on corresponding cubes as you can see in the initial post (added image).
  12. Shape matters when you want to attach thrusters. And thrusters matter when you want to move your construct.
  13. Looking for faster prototyping editor and easy to understand? https://board.dualthegame.com/index.php?/topic/9977-magicavoxel-editor-easy-prototyping-for-anyone/
  14. As in real world, the best designs should be about function. Make the best functional design and then you can play with making it look nicer. Some people suggested why not just doing 100x100x100 cube for best protection. Well, it won't move probably too well, it will be huge mass and faster and more agile ship could probably cut through one side with the cube being unable to resist it effectively. You could probably use the same amount of materials to make fleet of smaller ships or big one that will be capable of using all of her firepower at once, also will accelerate MUCH faster and be more agile.
  15. Guys, you should finally realize the devs want to make the same game we want and are coming from same background (just with better skills so they can actually make it:D). CvC(vP) is their ultimate goal, but it's much harder than PvP. And even if KS would fail (it won't), the game is going to be released, there will be ways of supporting it even after KS (I guess) and all will happen, just at little bit different pace and after release. With limited budget they need to choose what to do first and CvC is NOT PRIORITY, because we won't get to that point for considerable amount of time after release. And when the civilization gets to that point, they will have that implemented. If we meet the stretch goal, then it means more money, more resources and I'm sure the results will be same for us, but rather sooner than later :-) Also, for quite some time, we will be having so much work that we won't even realize that CvC is not yet implemented. And when it finally is, there will be stuff to destroy! Hoooray:D Now show me some positive comments.
  16. Ok, I've seen some people creating posts about Sketchup or even Blender. Don't get me wrong, they are great tools, but totally hardcore and not easy to understand by significant part of player base. I did some research few days ago and was looking not for perfect results (I will look for those later in game), but for tool that will allow me easy and fast prototyping. And I found this... MagicaVoxel (https://voxel.codeplex.com/wikipage?title=MagicaVoxel%20Editor&referringTitle=Home) - quickly prototype anything you want with cubes and save it as .vox (no slopes, but for prototypes it doesn't matter and there is way to auto-add them in the renderer) MagicaVoxel Renderer (https://voxel.codeplex.com/wikipage?title=MagicaVoxel%20Renderer&referringTitle=Home) - load your .vox and render cool pictures out of them to show your friends (allows multiple settings as shadows, background, grid visibility, etc.) Some may say they want perfection. Ok, go use Blender. But those looking for prototyping can create really huge things much faster. I'm going to make tutorial soon and if you are interested in it, you are free to join the Alpha Academy. It's open community for everyone interested in the technical side of game and it's no problem if you are already in organization. See more in the org description or on our discord. 17. Jesus, some people shouldn't have the rights to write. Organizations are simply parties and you can join as many you want. You can also make parties of parties (will be available later, so there can be sub-companies, alliances, nations). Take this from game or limit it and you are getting away the freedom you want so much. Those who will limit memberships in multiple organizations are the organizations themselves and their rules. Are you in multiple orgs? It's ok! Ssome orgs may be non-political, for example trading communities. But if let's say you are in two hostile orgs at once, what you think will happen? They will tell you to leave the other one and stay just with them, or they kick you - easy.
  18. Hmm, not sure how to shortly sum up 20 years of MMO experience starting with Ultima Online :-) Some of those MMOs or multiplayer games where I spent most of the time probably: Ultima Online, Ragnarok Online, WoW, EVE Online, Diablo 2 & 3, Secret World, Skyforge and WoT for years and countless of other games for weeks or months at most. In past year I spent a lot of time in World of Warships which is great game. Currently looking forward to: DU, SC, Albion Online, Lineage: Eternal, Lost Ark Online (international)
  19. Can't rename the topic, but just wanted to announce we renamed this organization to more suitable name. Also updated the initial post to better reflect our plans.
  20. Based on google translator, this looks like helpful post, but could you or someone else please rewrite it to english please?
  21. I've heard post about DU Kickstarter on some gaming site, checked some short video with JC and thought "Hey, they know what they are doing, they are transparent and got the technical skills and demo, awesome! Let's back this...". So I got the Silver Pack. One day later, after I checked several more videos, forum posts and organizations, I decided to upgrade to Gold Pack. And less than 24 hours later I just went YOLO and upgraded to Ruby And that's pretty much enough for me. I want this game, I want to help testing and improving it.
  22. I wish I could be there too :-) Can't wait for the footage. Thanks a lot for this post and thanks to NQ organizing such event.
  23. Just my short opinion - F2P games are the worst and the most expensive. In some of them you have to pay thousands of dollars just to stay competitive. Subscription based games are the most fair and offer stable income to the devs.
  24. I know and I'm happy with that. But if I didn't express my opinion (that things should stay as they are), we would be left only with opposing opinions.
