  1. +1 I think if you let people name the planets it would be a disaster. You would need an army of staff to regulate the ridiculous names that would appear, not to mention the offensive titles. 'Now Orbiting planet 'Super Awesome Turbo Rocket Cool Place''
  2. Piiigs iiin Spaaaace! A planet inhabited entirely by muppets, in the wild none of them have legs.
  3. Unreal Tournament, Ultima Online, Wow, Freelancer, Age of Conan, Lotro, SWtor, Rift, Neverwinter, Elder Scrolls. Most of the CoD and Batllefield FPS if they count as online. Currently playing Paladins and a couple of driving sims.
  4. Some of the pledge rewards are Arkship ID cards, I believe those reserve your name. Just got to hope no-one wants your name that has one I guess.
  5. The advertising will work both ways, if DU doesn't succeed then they've given you an alternative as for SC.
  6. Good idea, they had similar in UO. Items were crafted by 'Name'. It ended up with people getting reputations as good builders and getting better business when their 'brand' starts to appear everywhere. It also caused alot of new crafters appearing with alot cooler names, Crafted by 'Boss' for example. Have to start thinking of cool brand names
  7. Bleh I'm not keen on the repairing gameplay in any game, it's usually more of a chore than something to get into. This sounds more interesting though. What sort of time scale are you looking at spending on repairing stuff? Some constructs will be huge, will the automated repairs be instant, minutes, hours, days? I mean you may end up needing more than one of the same ship so you can cycle them during repairs. Auto repairs while offline maybe, at a repair point?
  8. That's why I am fine with a sub. If the transactions are purely for cosmetic stuff then...meh, you have the choice at least. Good way for them to make money without upsetting too many and stay out of the clutches of greedy publishers. Personally I wouldn't want to buy anything from an in game shop but then I'm not fussed about my Avatars look too much. Some people love that sort of thing.
  9. Be careful if you do, it will undoubtedly take up alot of your time..
  10. I hope you washed your hands
  11. If you have some ideas, go ahead, I don't think anything is set in stone with regards to what you do on day 1. I think things like learning basic skills, some kind of tutorial wil be in place by then.
  12. The Arkship is starting with a 20km radius safe zone I think. Im not sure how close you will be able to build to it but bigger organisations almost certtainly will end up with their own cities. 1 Arkship for now. You've already started. https://devblog.dualthegame.com/2014/09/13/arkship-security-or-where-does-pvp-starts/ https://devblog.dualthegame.com/2015/07/24/territory-control/
  13. There's a new one today. Looking good!
  14. Mmm, I find it the other way around. For me at least it becomes more immersive as a game when I don't have to stress about finance. In alot of games the drive for money is dull. Ofc I know we need an economy, but in alot of cases I find the currency is what can divide players. The more casual player might not have time to build up their savings, by the time you progress with crafting the materials and crafted items are going to be expensive, not to mention replacing/repairing your ship which has a potential to alienate people that dont have the in game credits to buy the top end stuff. Making it harder to get currency, to me at least, doesn't add or detract from the gameplay, its just there, more of an inconvenience than anything else. But I'm easy I'll adapt to whatever system ends up in the game.
  15. Any quircky item that maybe has a brief animation or sound or just looks weird that can be used to characterise your creations, not just ships, housing too. Think interior and exterior design, large and small scale, I don't know how far they will take this sort of thing but thew more the merrier imo to be able to build some really amazing things, some people have fantastic imaginations. Obvious ones are things like TV and PC screens, furniture and lighting. Other ones maybe Robotic arms to do some function, motorised doors, windows, of all types. Motorised hangar doors? For the ship, I think just go nuts, from engines to cup holders just mix it up as much as possible.
  16. I think we need NPC's in game just to add life to it, in real life you interact with so many people that you don't really pay any attention to, walking past them in a street people working etc, but if you emptied the street you would notice. It also gives you a way to set the bar for the price of things, basic things like a hammer for 10 gold pieces, you now know that 10 gold pieces is relatively worthless.
  17. I would like to avoid a skill based system where everyone ends up with Build B from index A because its the most efficient. The more variations of skill sets that work together the better imo so everyone seems different. I am a little dubious about passive skill gain though, I never played Eve but the system sounds too automated.
  18. You could say the same about any skin on any ship, if they all perform the same its just cosmetic, people will always go for something just because its there. At some point you will have to wait for seomething to finish counting down, having everything instantly would be boring, cooldowns are needed. The more you have to do in those wait times the better, no matter how irrelevant it may seem. You could have player made rewards for tournaments to kill waves, you or your buddies team up to take part. Game time tokens as rewards or crafted items for the tournament winner that sort of thing.
  19. Stargates and worm holes too!
  20. If our memories are wiped during the trip, what's to say this is the first time we as a species have made a move like this, we could have several variations of 'us'.
  21. I would imagine the closer areas would dissappear pretty rapidly, it makes you wonder what will happen further down the line, Perhaps the game could evolve into DU:The Thrid Age, Alioth is on the verge of destruction thanks to the human presence, so we built these big Arkships to escape... Ah the cycle of life.
  22. Sorry if it's a repeat thread, couldn't find anything on it though. Building in hostile places could be a fun challenge, you would need specialized equipment/vehicle mods dependant on the hazard; pressure, toxicity, temperature, mobility etc if they end up in the game ofc. More for the crafters to do. It could be a viable way to hide something or defend it, a base or ship. **Thinks** Blackhole movie... Giant ship moored at the edge of the blackhole... ...will blackholes be a thing for that matter?
  23. I asked in another thread if our Solar system survived the Nova. The general theory on that is that it didn't but the conspiracies are simmering away, there is a possibility planets survived but were swept off their orbits and scattered. Presumably if we had the technology to make the Arkships we would have had some experience at colonising planets alot closer to earth in order to experiment and develop the life-support/ propulsion tech the Arks would be using. So you potentially have a colony of humans either adrift on a displaced planet or stranded on an Alien world as their homeworld is gone. After 10 thousand years, if this colony manages to survive it would have evolved and to us would probably appear to be Alien. So I guess even if there aren't going to be any 'aliens' of a different species there could at least be a different type of humanoid. Ofc watch Einstein get involved now and mess up the whole time/space part of this theory
