  1. You are right that they have absolutely no real obligation to keep the vaguely worded promise that they made. But the fact that they made it matters. They used that wording to sell subscriptions. I wish that they had waited until launch for a final wipe, and to start selling subscriptions, but here we are. A lot of people wouldn't have subbed to a game that still had a planned wipe. They would have waited too. It might be convenient for NQ to do a full wipe at this point. But if they do, they will be breaking a promise. The promise to, as you put it, "make a best effort" not to wipe our progress. It might be too late for them to make that best effort. But it's not too late for them to own up to the promise they made and figure out how to make the game work without a full wipe. Legally i think they can do whatever they want. Financially, it would probably bring in more money, short term. Ethically, it would be a despicable thing to do. And i hope they don't do it.
  2. I think it would help if you scaled back your expectations for what you "need" to accomplish in the game to enjoy it, if you want the game to be a relaxing activity. This "game" is a work in progress. And they are letting us play with it while they work on it. But it's a game, so they're always adding more gameplay. Just about every time they've added stuff to the game, i've had to scale back my expectations. In the pre-alpha i could pretty much build anything i wanted. But then they added resources and crafting and i needed to mine if i wanted stuff. In the Alpha i could build a factory and craft anything i wanted, and then they added schematics and i had to start collaborating with other players. Being able to do all that stuff was fun. But the game itself will be a lot more fun, hopefully, once it's finished. The game needs the "game" part. Not everyone is content to just build stuff. I might last a year or two if that's all there was, but even i would get bored eventually. And the social aspect is important to me too. Having other people in the game is what makes it exciting. So the game needs to be fun for everyone, not just me.
  3. It's not a "no wipe" statement and we all know that. It's "If we have to wipe, we'll do our best to get you your stuff back" There is just no way they can fulfil that promise and also intentionally wipe progress for the purpose of wiping progress. I'm not saying they can't break their promise, but they sure as hell made it. By intentionally ignoring that you're doing some pretty heavy spinning yourself. This is not a discussion about whether NQ said they would wipe again or not, it's a discussion about whether NQ said they would intentionally revert paying customer's progress or not. You can keep trying to have the other discussion if you want, but you're just disrupting the real discussion because you don't want to have it.
  4. I can't tell what the meaning of your profile pic is supposed to be. But since we're not allowed to discuss it here anyway, and i hate to waste NQ's time with childish crap, i'm just going to suggest you change it.
  5. I'm not sure i understand what the issue is. Do you think that the third party should require permission from the first party, before they can use mining units that belong to the second party? If the second party has permission to place cores and operate mining units i don't see why they wouldn't be able to share them with someone else. The third party can't deploy cores or really do anything at all on the territory other than access the second parties' stuff right?
  6. To me the problem is that after the last wipe, and up until the last Q&A, NQ had made it very clear that they didn't intend to intentionally revert player's progress, for the sake of reverting player's progress. There is plenty of evidence to support this. Any situation that might have required them to wipe, they could at least give out magic blueprints "so that players are quickly back on their feet". A wipe for the sake of "resetting the economy" wouldn't really work though, if they provide magic blueprints. And i don't see how NQ could keep their promise to "attempt to mitigate these effects through plenty of forewarning and various dev means so that players are quickly back on their feet" if their intentions are to do the opposite. They can't really mitigate the effects of a wipe, if the effects of the wipe are the only reason they are doing it. I'm not going to say i'd quit playing if they wiped, because i probably wouldn't. But the truth is that there are several projects that i've spent a huge amount of time on and was planning to spend a lot more time finishing, that would likely never see the light of day again. It would take me months to get back into a position to start working on them again, and from past experience i know i probably won't get around to it. Huge builds have a kind of momentum that it can be hard to recapture, for me at least. The fact is i've already walked off the Arcship twice with empty pockets. I might not quit, but it's really hard to imagine mustering the same enthusiasm a third time. If they do wipe for the sake of wiping, i sure hope all the people who quit playing once already, come back with a lot more enthusiasm this time around, because it would be a shame to have 100% of the player base alienated and unenthusiastic. The second solar system idea sounds incredible to me, it really seems like the ideal solution. I hope they consider it whether they decide to wipe or not. It sounds like it would be fun.
  7. What kind of purpose are you looking for? The voxels are kind of just armor or art, or both. I'm not sure what you're expecting. I build stuff because i want to look at it, maybe someone else will want to look at it too. And it's very obviously not that 5 HQ tiles is all anyone would want or need. Just all they need to have without lifting a finger. If you're playing the game on some other level then everyone else, it seems like you should be able to figure out how to come up with a little Quanta to pay for a few more tiles to build on.
  8. As a builder I'm going to have to disagree with that completely. In the last week I've seen tons of awesome mining rig builds. I haven't even had time to build one myself, but i'm looking forward to it. As for large scale builds. Just filling one L core with something meaningful is an insanely huge project for one person. If i ever manage to build something that fills all five of my HQ tiles i think at that point, I'll be ready to try building a space station. I would imagine they probably discussed a hard limit on how much land/space we can claim. I don't think that would have seemed all that unreasonable, if it had been what they decided to do from the beginning. Having no limit at all was pretty nuts. I think having a soft limit that you can pay to exceed with in game money is a pretty good deal.
  9. Three days after you claim the tile, the tax is due. If you don't pay it, you won't be able to run mining units or industry on the tiles. Now you have two weeks before the tile becomes abandoned, so plenty of time to wait another week and pick up your TU
  10. I think you're still missing some key information. You don't have to pay the taxes on the HQ tiles, unless you want to use them for industry or mining. OP is stuck in a situation where they are trying to pay for tiles that aren't going to pay for themselves. That's a mistake. If you don't need a tile to make quanta, then don't pay the taxes on it. Make it an HQ tile, or give it up.
  11. Every time i go to work, i get this nagging feeling like I could be at home playing DU too. It sucks. But it's not anyone else's fault, or problem. The idea is for everyone to be able to enjoy the game. If you have time, you can use it to make more money. If you have money, you can use it to save time. I don't see any difference between DACs and alts. and i don't see any difference between someone who has a lot of disposable time to put into a game they enjoy, and someone who has a lot of disposable income. I am a bit jealous of anyone who has both though
  12. If you have tiles that you want to hold on to because you want to build on them, but they don't produce enough ore to pay for themselves, then just designate them a Headquarters tile and don't pay the taxes. You can build on up to five tiles that way on Alioth for free. And one on the sanctuary moon. and as many as you want in space. All for free.
  13. Hey did you bother to read the release notes yet? ? Also HQ tiles aren't tax free. just so you know.
  14. I think you're saying that you're against being able to calibrate mining units in VR? But the topic of this thread was Alts, remember?
  15. Works to do what? How does it work? That's just less calibrations for everyone, less ore for everyone. They could also just lower the per hour rate on all the tiles. Same result. Less ore for everyone. same advantage for anyone with an alt.
  16. But that limits all players. So someone with an alt still has the exact same advantage. Everyone just has less. And it's another tax, on everyone, not just people using Alts. Any other ideas?
  17. The beta keys weren't free, they were part of the kickstarter. The silver pack was $60 and came with one key. So how would you suggest NQ go about stopping people from using Alts? If they wanted to. They could ban more than one account playing from the same address. But that would only stop family members and friends from playing together, and wouldn't actually stop most determined people from using an Alt anyway. They could limit one account per bank account or credit card, but that would stop parents from buying accounts for their kids. And again, wouldn't stop anyone from using an alt. They could send Alt Enforcement Agents to every player's house, to verify whether there are one or two people in control of each account? or make us install some kind of nanny software that watches us play to make sure we aren't big bad cheaters? I think the problem is that any attempt to stop it, would cause way more harm than good. All they could really do is make it slightly less accessible to the average person.
  18. So you can build on five hexes on Alioth. One on the Sanctuary moon. And as many as you want in space. All without paying any taxes. The only reason you would need to pay any taxes is if you wanted to use the hexes for mining or industry. In which case i think you're supposed to make enough money to cover the taxes. I don't think there is any reason to pay the taxes on a hex unless it's going to produce enough mining revenue to pay for itself. I have no idea whether the tax is too high or not. But as someone who just wants to screw around and build stuff on a few hexes, this isn't going to affect me at all.
  19. These are all great suggestions. Especially #6 on element obstruction. With the changes to air brakes that are probably coming some time in the future, it would be awesome if NQ could include some improvements to element obstruction, to make it a little less frustrating. When you're positioning an element it would be great if you could see a visual representation of the exact area that can't be obstructed. I'd like to know exactly where and how close i can place voxels to a functional element without obstructing it.
  20. I guess i would rather they spend time communicating with us, before things go wrong. What does this accomplish? Other then stroking little egos
  21. A few years back there was a game called Landmark, a lot of people here are familiar because it was kind of the predecessor to DU's voxel engine. So Landmark went down in a flaming dumpster fire. And i rode it all the way down. in the year or two leading up to the end i spent quite a bit of time doing exactly what you're doing, on the Landmark forums. And looking back, having been 100% correct the entire time, i'm still pretty embarrassed about most of the stuff i said. The honorable thing to do, would have been to walk away. Being right doesn't really make me feel any better about acting like an asshole to a bunch of people, at work, trying to do their job. Anyway if NQ ever gets sold to a Ukrainian money launderer, that's when i'll start to worry lol
  22. Voicing frustration isn't what i'm talking about though. It's the personal attacks against the devs and the constant negative spamming and derailing in every topic. It's possible to be frustrated and still manage some level of pragmatic communication. If people are voicing their frustration because they want to change the game so it's better, then cool. If they're just venting, then please call the customer service hotline and ask to speak to a manager. It's not like i'm worried about the dev's feelings. I'm sure they can handle it. I'm just afraid the way they handle it, is by taking a break from the forums for a while. That's what i'd do.
  23. This is like saying "I think a lot of you don't realize the reason i farted is because i ate a bowl of chili last night." I don't really care why, it stinks, take it outside. A lot of us have a love and appreciation for the game and want to see it succeed. And it's definitely been a rocky frustrating road at times. But that doesn't give anyone an excuse to stink up the place.
  24. You guys make me miss blazemonger lol
