  1. NQ intention:

Asteroids that will be risk vs reward as you fight for the control of the tier 5 asteroids !

    Reality:

T1 trashcan ship with 100 alts crashes on the tier5 asteroid. Alts start troll mining T5 into their backpacks jetpacking away and logging off when full. 3 battleships that came to pvp watching helplessly unable to do anything to them.

When the dust settles down alt extraction (another trashcan this time with a warp drive) arrives to take them back home.

NQ: "We will investigate..." (and may or may not do anything about it in 6 month)

There is that profession. Game Design.

    1. Surface Mining = I would better play pacman, calling "aim at rock press button wait 3 seconds" gameplay in 2021 should be criminalized
    2. Scanning - tool scan = fun for fist 3 times, hex scan boring even first time you do it. Waiting 15minutes for no reason wtf
    3. Trading = The market interface is an atrocity, landing and navigating markets is nightmare. Any other game I can think of does this better
    4. Hauling + Missions = Staring at your screen for 6 hours while your ship is flying in empty space that you hope will remain empty. \o/ YAY !
    5. Pirating = First 20-30kills are fun, then it's becomes boring + this never involves any "intended" game mechanics. All meta stuff that are unfun. Only reason I was playing this game.
    6. Building = Some may like it. I find it stupid that take any ship build to haul, strip all voxels that people spend days "designing" and it will just fly better...
    7. Industry = Yep, although t1 should require no schematics, it's noob stuff.
    8. and Asteroid Mining. = Same as any other mining, 0 new here. The part where you search for asteroid is lazy af.

What I would like to see ?

    1) Game loop that doesn't involve hours of staring at the screen passively or "watching a youtube" etc. I want to play the damn game not watch youtube.

    2) Game loop with risk vs reward and PVP. Trust me, asteroid will be very low risk and not that much PVP. There are already working schemes how to completely bypass all the risks and get all the rewards. They are just not public yet as no one gonna share this stuff for no reason. (It's only some poor noobs who gonna do it the way NQ intends)

    3) Bugs, this game is currently unplayable in any PVP risky scenario. Most of the player base are unaware to PVP bugs as they never tried it.

They are literally adding asteroids (which will be regenerating high tier ore), autominers (which will probably regen high tier ore) and a whole section of the roadmap is literally on first time user experience lol

They are adding another "exciting" game loop where you scan an asteroid and stare at the screen for hours while your ship is flying there to hand dig it.

Maybe that's the sad truth. I didn't get this "we ll create a metaverse" fit for millions of players. When the game is so special, it would have been lucky to attract maybe thousands (under the condition it reaches the state where it can be considered a final product) . I guess advertising and making some investors believe this might be the next step following the internet.

    yup.

The game loops that got just introduced in the last update assume you will be staring at the screen for 6 hours while your ship is flying...

This has to attract millions of people, especially the younger population right ?

The best part is that you actually hope it will be just flying in completely empty space for hours without encountering anything...

NQ have had more than enough time to address the marketplace problems but they just don't seem to want to fix them... These markets are literally the first post-tutorial part of the game world new players see... and it's really not a good look.
Yet for some reason NQ seem to be more interested in changing the colour of engine parts and making the multitool glow. Priorities are a complete mess, IMHO.

Having multitool glow can be used in video ads.

Different color engines gives the reason to say "We added new engines"

Market look post tutorial - doesn't matter, you already paid for 3 months.

I just spent 30 minutes googling NQ and DU. Just about all of he news is from 2019 at the latest. Now, I'm old and dumb and don't know shit about fuck but old news and no news in this day and age is never a good thing.

    Scientist had an idea.

    Scientist made a PoC.

We tested the PoC and paid for experiment analyzes.

PoC didn't work and turned out to be  a failure.

It seems like scientist got fired.

Time to go crowfund next scientist idea because obviously gamers are much better in deciding which projects should be founded and which are not than professional investors.

    P.S:

PoC name was "server tech for millions of players".

Real result was "shit hits the fan with less than 100".

  6. The best part is if you run out of places close to the market you can drop your ads from above on top of other constructs. The poor ones below will have to maneuver tool their crap out to fly.

And it is always a good idea to add some scrap shop with x3 price for scrap. People collide a lot with your tall ads(due to their FPS getting to single digits while landing at marketplace) and their ship is kinda stuck high so they have to use your scrap to repair it - free money.

And don't worry about people doing anything to your ads, it's a safezone they can't do anything and if they find a way they will probably get a ban.

Building shops on your own title ? WTF are you talking about, there is less customer exposure there. Why would I hurt my space-business ?

And what are you gonna do with so many constructs and private lands (tiles) that were left behind by people who left this game? They have to be adversely possessed by scavengers and squatters! You cannot leave them the way they are! This is a major problem that is turning off current players and will turn off new players!

NQ promised us we can leave our mark. We did.

  8. PVP in this game is not about "ship building" etc.

If you know "the meta" you are almost invincible. If you don't, you are a loot pinata and no amount of quanta will help you.

It goes like this in many sandbox games. Those who do PVP since the start learn the meta in "easy mode" as the rest are learning with them.

If you join later, you have to learn while the rest are already very knowledgable and you usually get pwned.

Having 0 balance and counters in DU just makes it even worse.

Join an org, see how it's done, leave, do it on your own if it's something you like.

  9. DU runs like shit on medium range machines natively. Any kind of emulation etc will bring the performance to "unplayable".

That and you need to reverse engineer that anti-cheat thingy to disable it, can be done but I believe it breaks the EULA.

I am not against Linux, I use it since kernel 2.2 and still don't see any other OS on the horizon that can replace it for me but it's not a gaming platform it's a workstation.

Some games do run better on Linux than they do on Windows etc(like KSP) but not the "early access" "barely working" "most likely tech PoC" games so I don't think anyone should bother at this stage.

  10. Making ad-clips about ships shooting each other - brings players and is relatively easy.

Making the game that has a meaningful and balanced PVP is hard.

Why go the hard way ?

"Too specialized" lol. When they were about to nerf xs cores to the ground I told that this is exactly what will happen but "you want to kill my L core freighter on your xs metacube" they said.

The only way this extended delay would make any sense, would be if they decided to include some of the more advanced mission types like NPC missions etc.

But knowing NQ and despite the long delay. This will probably be some 'early' version of the mission planner with hauling missions only. And the 'early' part of the mission system, like with PvP will remain a long, long time.

there will be no missions at all

  12. Initially, they promised "missions" to be the main part of 0.24 patch.

Today they release 0.25 (hint: missions are still not there).

What you get in 0.25 ? Optimizations.

Probably it costs too much to hold the server in its current state for the last 30 or so people who are still playing.

  13. Some other stupid stuff that I think affect performance:

    1) Constant "block" recalculation.

Did you have that your engines are OK and then, midflight, the games decided they are "blocked"... WTF. It seems it periodically recalculates the shape of your ship even that it never changes and the algorithm is not deterministic or something.... Why don't we jet get a button like "Prepare dynamics" that you should click 1 time after changing anything in build mode that will do the calculation and keep that until you change anything in your ship. Then you need to press it again before flying.

Getting your stuff blocked midflight + recalculating it again and again when nothing changes is bad both performance wise and gameplay wise.

    2) Damage and voxel banding

It's cool that you can see a big circle and voxels have an actual hole but that what prevents any PVP from actually happening.

If 5 people, 6 lasers each shoot on a target (target is M-core silicon cube with 1 person on board) the guy on the target cuble will download at least 100mbit/second of the "changes" to his ship.... We call it "download your damage" lol. When you are shot at in DU you are literally DOSed.

This is bizzare. It can't work. NQ should compromise here, make the voxels not "bend" etc but just the damaged part like change color or texture becoming less visible so it's clear that it can be shot thru.... Or maybe just part of voxels disappear without changing shape of the others(not sure if possible). It can be banded together with that "calculate dynamics" button, once you click it, your voxels are "frozen" in shape and damage will only alter colors and stuff not the shape. (As shape changes is what I think requires lots of complex stuff).

No one wants all his ship voxes bent just because of 1 shot anyway it pain in the back to repair manually and no. I don't put my L core to 24h repair because of 1-2 shots.

Don't know why I still post here, I don't play since like 2 months ago but don't know. Maybe they will improve.
