  1. My vision is to make sporting events and activities and large scale locations for said ventures within the DU arena that take advantage of the enjoyable physics model that underlies hover and flying vessels. Even skydiving as a sport (my real life job) is something I can see possible in the future.

I also am a ship designer, however at present ship design seems to be more focused on how to haul the most ore. It is a shame that creative and artistic assets are less desired than ugly giant bricks that can carry a third world country's GDP in one flight. But this is not the fault of NQ, it is a facet of unimaginative and capitalist driven human players.

That is the only problem with the game right now, in my way of looking at it at least. The pure capitalists. Those who want more money and resources every day but have absolutely no intention of using those riches to make a beautiful environment for anyone else. The new patch has slowed me down briefly in my goals, but I accept that because it has also pushed a little way towards halting the pure and ugly capitalism that apparently humanity is unable to avoid falling into.

  2. I really do feel your pain, please believe that. Somehow we are now in discourse and it may seem that my comments are directed at you personally. That is not the case. I have seen you posting many logical points. You have a legit reason for being upset now, I agree with you. I would be upset, even as a noob, if my measly month of work was now ruined. I get it.

    Well....

Since you seem to be so worried about JC's well being from reading all our word walls - I have good news for you.

The current state of the game indicates that he doesn't read our word walls.

Hey man, let's not get overly sarcastic towards each other about an honest discussion. I have no need to argue with you or anyone over a game.

The only point that I am making is that it is a whole lot of work to deal with hundreds of opinions and even more so when it is not your first language. Work that not only exhausts you but also detracts from the actual work of developing the game.

The dev's need to go home after work and relax a bit and have a life just as much as any of us need that. They are not slaves who must spend every waking hour satisfying ever customer demand. What they have done already is ground breaking in a number of ways, sometimes we lose sight of that. Insulting them openly and spreading negative opinions only hurts the game in the long run. Support what is being provided or leave. If the game eventually fails at this point it will be just as much the fault of the negative behaviour we inject as it will be the fault of the developers.

  4. Not really, it is very relevant to giving feedback to another human being who is communicating in a second language. I speak English native, Spanish quite fluently, French badly and a few other more obscure languages in little bits.

Even with a pretty fluent Spanish, reading a long text in Spanish is far more taxing to me than reading it in English. Just one text.

Even reading a lot of English emails for work is making me tired.

Now, after years of development of a game like this, I would find myself having a choice. Either destroy myself and die of exhaustion by trying to please everyone and read everything they constantly are trying to tell me (often in all different directions at once). Or, to focus *mostly*  on my own vision of the game I am making and actually devote my energy towards that work.

I would rather they devote their energy to actually making the game rather than waste all of it trying to please everyone at the same time.

It is so common to hear people on this forum bashing this JC guy (I don't know him myself) for not doing what they want. Saying he is arrogant and does not listen to the community.

That is clearly not the case. He is just smart enough to not destroy himself and to keep his energy directed at what he is doing.... making a game.

This is what you take away from all this?

No, but it is something that many people don't even seem to consider.

just putting the idea out there

Have you ever tried to read a wall of text in a different language? How about 200 of them on a weekly basis?

  6. It must be quite frustrating to have hundreds of players telling you how to make your game and even worse if they are shouting at you not in your first language.

English speaking people are so often so damn rude to others who have taken the time to learn English, it makes me disappointed.

I'm not saying everyone has to learn French (but, why not? improve yourself)

But just a little bit of respect and patience when so many people are shouting and ranting at someone who has taken time to learn your language would go a long way.

I'm not a huge fan of a wipe but allow me to explain that you described exactly what happened.

Until a few days ago there was absolutely no reason to believe that what we were doing was about to be stripped of its value, as you said, we were led to believe that whatever we were doing was permanent.

There was also (apparently) no reason to rush in a certain direction, who cares if I spend 10 days designing the exterior of my base as long I have an "eternity" ahead to work on my wealth. That was true until last Q&A, now it couldn't be further from the truth.

In a matter of a few days after the announcement patch dropped, we plebs had no time to react, while silently ppl were stockpiling valuable items and money (the discussion about mass L core buying is at least 2 weeks old).

I don't know how I would react to a wipe, I spent a lot of time designing my base and my ships, but I had fun in doing that, and I would 100% do it again if needed, hell I'm into this game for building things.

My problem now is that my path as a builder is never been this distant from actually building things.

It's like if I've chosen to be a warrior but I'm now forced to wear cloth and cast spells, doesn't sounds this good to me, doesn't it?

I really do see the problem for some of us there. I am not so selfish to not understand how horrible it must be to have all your factory work wasted right now.

I just don't see how making even more people unhappy with a wipe will fix that

  8. Are you guys insane? If you think the crying is heavy now just wait to see how many tears come if you delete hundreds or even thousands of hours of resource collecting, moving dirt and creative energy put into building projects. People would lose the will to ever start again. These are the people who are not active on the forum after every patch complaining because they have been quietly producing beautiful and awe inspiring features on the land, sky and ocean.

A wipe will not fix anything, it will quite definitely destroy the game for anyone who plays it for creative purposes. The amount of effort that goes into finishing a creative project *read 'creative' not just a bunch of engines and airbrakes smashed together in a mess or a box with some factory units inside*, even for an M core ship, let alone a 25 L core building complex, is immense and we were led to believe that this world we are building will be persistent into the future of the DU universe. Not wiped out completely just because a few people cannot adapt and overcome a new limitation to their economic progress.

but if I were a paying beta subscriber my sentiment would be pretty much this: Shut down this shit show and come back when there's something worth paying for.

Well, that doesn't always relate to everyone else Bobbie. I am a beta subscriber, a couple of my new friends playing too, and we would be extremely sad if they 'shut down this shit show' tomorrow.

Please let us keep playing. The projects we are working on are fun and to lose all that work now would be horrible.

ok so http error 100 is NOT the server being down.

it's a communication error between your client and the server.

if the servers are not down then your client is faulty.

there is something wrong with the install.  or the computer

    why do i know this?

because i have a pc and a laptop here.

and on my laptop i get http error 100 every time.   while on my pc i can log in just fine.

both are on the same connection so that's not it.

i have tried their uninstalled already.  and i am going to try it again. but then also manually delete all the folders.

there is no firewall issue either.

NQ needs to sort out their error numbers.

because error 100 just happens to also be the error you get when you type the wrong password.   how conveniant.

edit:   restarting the laptop did it.   so it wasn't the server being down (as i knew because i was looking at my main mining)

I found the same solution in the end Dark, I restarted my PC and it logged in first time.

I must have missed the part where you mentioned error 100 in your first post, maybe my browser didn't render it.

    Also, for future reference:Server status

Error 100 is synonymous with the server being down in many cases so a little bit of creative logic is all you need to see why I had asked the question here rather than starting a whole new thread or using up dev's time.

It is regretful that you are having a hard time with the game. I hope you get the resolution you want. I am not sure how either of us profit disputing this minor point any further.

Thank you for the server status link.

  12. 3 hours ago, Stuza said:

This thread is not about that.

There is a dedicated web page for server availability maintained by Devs. Google it.

Second reply in this thread mentions error 100. I had error 100 for about 4 hours this morning. Seemed relevant for an innocent question. But thank you for putting me straight.

  13. Would it ever be possible to have voxel shapes producing lift? I am actually more interested in making spoilers to keep hovers racers on the track but also would be great for flying craft.

I'm sure it's an insane amount of work for devs and for CPUs..but....ya know....voxel wings!

Self hosting costs are way more than Steam fees (even more if you use AWS like NQ does).

People are just ignorant about what is required to host and distribute a game. They're totally clueless about "TCO" and opex costs in general.

The whole 'steam fees' debate was relevant only when you reached a very high volume but since then you can now negotiate reduced fees for very high volumes.

Don't be fooled by the FUD that the Epic marketing team distilled in the press these past years. Do the real math (aws, xsolla, staff, etc).

Fair enough. I am not an expert. I do know that in some cases Steam was taking up to 50% or more from some developers. But I really don't know what I am talking about in any detail.

Create an org. Have a legate in the org with the Org Constuct Management skill trained up. Place the cores in the org's name. You can have 900 cores in one org with maxed skills.

Oh wow, really? So by myself if I create an org and nominate myself as legate I could make the whole racetrack singlehanded?

  16. Just as an experiment I abandoned a small ship and left it on the front entrance of my base. Probably in total it had 10 basic engines, a couple of fuel tanks, some storage and 35 cubic meters of honeycomb. Hardly a bumper pay day. Maybe half a million total cost.

Well, left it there two days while not playing the game and sure enough, she was stripped down and gutted cleanly by some industrious salvager. I am impressed that anyone even found it.

That answers my question about building a race track out of abandoned sections to get around the core quantity limitations. Would be beautiful but the track would be gone with in a week :D

  17. what is wrong with this out of curiosity? Real life resources are not spread out evenly over our planet, there are rich areas and poor areas. I think having mega nodes like this actually make prospecting for ore more worth while. So boring if every tile has more or less the same resources. No point exploring, just take a tile, any tile...

  18. I just spent almost a week on an insane and pointless yet beautiful building and terraforming project. I did not mine a single node. Could not care less if someone else was stealing all the resources. I have my territory, my ore will be there when I need it.

This is a game for creativity, surely. If you want some kind of empire building space combat game there are many better ones to choose from

  19. I am pretty new here, only a couple of weeks playing. But seriously anyone can say that the voxel tech here is hard to use? It is as simple as a couple of mouse clicks to produce something far more beautiful than minecraft or any other voxel builder can offer.

I can build a ship that looks stunning with curves and smooth edges in 30 mins and that is just using the standard tools, I am not a voxelmancer. Hell, they made it so easy you can literally just smash a load of solid cubes in a rough pattern all over your construct and then uses the smoothing tools to make it beautiful in seconds. It is really not that complicated.

There are definitely a load of things I would like to see improved in the game, like voxel rendering distance and the ability to distribute the core's dimensions in a shape you prefer (why have a build area 500ft tall when you want to make a 1000ft long tunnel but are now forced to use two cores and waste all the high space?)

I would also like the ability to pre-load some hex sectors so when I am flying through my territory I don't have to see all my work jumping into view with sub par LOD system.

The terrain textures need a massive update and the skills tree is kind of insane time scale for marginal improvements.

But the voxel tech is really very good.

    /shrug
