  1. By the time you reach 10-12 members i think the Consortium might have a few hundred conscripts. PS - Our Employee's and definitely not robots that we are mass producing. Good day Ma'am!
  2. Welcome to the community. If you need a group to join so you can twiddle your thumbs in unison with us while waiting for DU to come out then look up my group the Morrigan Consortium and see if my humble group meets your tastes.
  3. Welcome! Should you need a group to join (One that focuses on Star ship design and construction along with mining for resources.) Then the Morrigan Consortium all ways welcomes new members should you decide to grace us with you presence!
  4. Welcome to this wonderful community. We all eagerly await the day DU comes out.
  5. Considering there will be programming in game it could be entirely possible to make a robot.
  6. Don't listen to others who say there is no need for class's, there definitely will be. Now let me explain the classes for those ignorant fellows, Each class has a name of course because that class performs a certain role, Battleships are obvious because they have large caliber guns and with heavy armor they soak up damage like a sponge, Destroyers.... I think the name speaks for it self, Frigates and corvettes are both small classes but due to their small size and weight they will be much faster than other classes so great patrol vessels or convoy escorts, Carriers of course carry your fighters and bombers because i doubt you'd be able to fit many on a battleship, Dreadnought now this is just a battleship on steroids and the name means Fearless, cruisers are bigger than a destroyer but smaller than a battleship and are there for the purpose of either convoy escort duty or to support the much larger capital ships. Each class has its own strengths and weaknesses along with its own uses in warfare and for organisations sake they put those ships into classes so people do not get confused.
  7. An Oort cloud is essentially a very big Asteroid and comet belt (Well not a belt but very big none the less) And if you go up and look at the pic of the Oort cloud compare the size of the cloud to the sun, that is a lot of materials, a lot more than what would be available on a planet, and it would be quite easy to hide in the Oort cloud so can hide there to avoid bigger groups who may or may not want to tax every one for taking resources off of planets they have claimed. I Personally believe that Oort cloud mining would be a great idea and provide a very large source of materials for those who are not lazy and can be bothered to travel, especially if you plan to build a very large ship in secret, Why do it on a planet in plain sight? Do it in the Oort cloud with an abundance of materials next to you and great cover from the inner solar system.
  8. I'm here wondering what weapon systems for ships will be available in game? I have a few idea's and I'll discuss their uses but I do not know if these kinds of weapons will be in the final game these ideas are my own theories. Plasma Weaponry - Now if your an Avid Sci-Fi reader like my self you'll know Plasma is a popular idea, Although in space i wouldn't say it is, Plasma is let's say essentially super heated Gas and Space is a Vacuum, no air and very very cold so over distance the Plasma is going to lose heat and disperse which will at best make it only a decent short range weapon, and in space you want long range weapons so Plasma weaponry on a ship i think would be best for just Point Defense, in fact it'd be great as an Infantry weapon as well. Missiles - A classic piece of weaponry which could have many different types and uses, you could have your usual explosive ones to destroy targets or you could have ECM ones to confuse the enemy scanners and make them think you have more missiles than you launched, In fact you could have a load of very small missiles used for point defense purposes taking down large enemy missiles. Lasers - Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation, this is what Laser stands for so it is essentially concentrated light to form a very hot beam (How many of us have gotten a Magnifying glass on a sunny day and murdered thousands of bugs?) And it has an effect on Earth but what would it be like in space with no Atmosphere to block most of the Radiation and refract the sun light? Why you'd get a 100% certified death beam and since Light travels very fast you have a great Point defense system and if the enemy don't have some strong ceramic armor then Lasers would be devastating in ship to ship combat. Rail guns - A classic weapon, compared to the others listed so far its simple and easy and if enemy ships do have ceramic armor to prevent lasers then Missiles and Rail guns are the way to go, the great thing is once the rail gun round reaches top speed it's not going to stop until it hits some thing, so i guess Rail gun's are simple but what about their Rounds? Why you could stuff explosives in the middle of one so once it pierces enemy armor it explodes inside doing untold damage! (Essentially a Smart round.) Mass Driver - A cousin of the Rail gun, this could be used to launch very large objects at an enemy ship. Now i did this post on a whim and there may be more weapons that i did not mention (Torpedo's, but no idea how these would work in space?) if you can think of some just leave a post!

  10. Yeah but in the Oort cloud they can be found in bulk quantities, it could enrich an economy as well because it allows for more jobs.
  11. Carbon and Silicon of course, Carbon fiber is a strong material and who know's what kind of light metals could be found out there.
  12. The biggest question i have is. Will we be able to mine Oort clouds and in fact will there be Oort clouds at all within a game?
