There can be a monopoly. Look at an ISP and rethink it.

An isp has a special environment allowing it to florish as a monoply as such if there is a global economy it simply would not happen if it is localized only then possibly for a short period of time

Netflix/Hulu/Luxottica/Unilever/YKK/Monsanto/Google/Simmons Pet Food/Facebook/Twitter/Microsoft/Apple/AB InBev has a special environment allowing it to flourish as a monopoly as such if there is a global economy it simply would not happen if it is localized only then possibly for a short period of time.

While some of these are not "extreme" monopolies, they do dominate the market extraordinarily well.

Guess how long these have been around?

84 years? (YKK)

88 years? (Unilever)

116 years? (Monsanto)

Very much a "short period of time".

Monopolies are the "natural state" of business in the world, it's the most logical way to do business, lol

That's why all developed economies have a raft of legislation enacted to prevent monopolies. In the absence of those laws, I'm quite certain that monopolies and cartels would dominate the business world...

Best summary of monopolies.

---

Monopolies are basically inevitable.

Let's say Jimmy grows crops, but Timmy has an entire country for crops. Timmy can sell them very cheap while Jimmy has to sell them very cheap or very costly to make even a meager profit.

Then add Sam to the mix. Sam has an entire planet and fleet at his disposal. Sam then takes over both Timmy and Jimmy.

Who has the real monopoly on the planet now?
