Asimos reacted to Scruggs in Full PvP or allow player-created PvE zones? (outside of Ark)
I don't think it would ruin the concept of 'war', it would certainly redefine it. Assuming that your enemy has found an Arkification token and made source invulnerable, they would still have to transport or move to the location of the conflict. You may not be able to destroy the base, but you can certainly destroy the line and attack them in transit. This could force the conflict to an area of your choosing instead of at your home.

I think the mentality of "Wolves" and "Sheep" is doesn't really help PVP and PVE community relations. It denotes a definitive predator vs prey mentality and while I think that it does accurately define how the some of the people in the communities feel about each other, it should be something we strive to move away from.

I believe that PVP and PVE is really a matter of Risk and Excitement. When I have played PVP there is a huge thrill involved in the hunting or fighting someone who is as skilled as you, and with that comes the high risk of loss. For me PVP or high excitement high risk game-play while fun occasionally, is not really worth the higher risk.

When I play in PVE, there is excitement in challenging the environment, and in other games it can be fun to fight large boss enemies and hordes of enemies that may be set to match your skill level, but there is less risk because these enemies operate on a set logic. Their strategies are limited. In other games being able to unleash your creativity and build amazing things is exciting.

I look at it like this: In Minecraft there are 2 main modes, survival and creative. On single player these are both PVE. Creative mode is really fun, the possibilities are endless. You can experiment with different designs and setups and its great, but after you've created something awesome in creative mode, it's fun and challenging to bring these creations into Survival mode. You can still build amazing things in survival mode, but now you need to stay alive so that you don't lose your resources. Now there is small risk, and that makes creating, to me, more rewarding and exciting.

I think the Virtual Building, Ark Safezone, Arkification zones, and Territories are a good idea and that we really don't need any more protection than that, these are all things that the Developers have said even though I personally prefer to have player built shields with varying degrees of effectiveness in stead of Arkification Zones. For PVE their will usually be some kind of risk. (with creative mode minecraft being the only exception I can think of.)

Salvation is waiting for all among the stars

The Order of Meru, otherwise known as "Meruism", is a religious order dedicated to searching for salvation among the stars.

"Salvation" and "Paradise" being terms that are used interchangeably within Meruism.

To become a priest of Meru means to sacrifice oneself for the betterment of humanity by embarking on a pilgrimage across the galaxy to be among the first to lay human hands on worlds most can only look to the skies and imagine being on.

Meruists believe that somewhere out there among the stars is a place of pure bliss, where darkness never consumes light. A place of unimaginable riches for the soul. A place they call "Meru".

They believe it is humanity's destiny to spread out across space and time, as one of the keys to unlocking the gateways to Meru is to establish a universal human consciousness. In this way, it is important for every Meruist to practice meditation in order to empower the universal consciouness they seek to grow.

In the same vein, Meruists stand to oppose all who might get in the way of establishing humanity's universal consciousness.

Meruists exists in all walks of life, from the highest offices of nobility to the pirate guilds waging war on the trade routes across space.

Meruism is a philosophy and way of life.

You argue with realistic physics, i argue with realistic physics, dont move the goal posts

And its still not gyroscopic but interferometric.

I'd personally scrap all the special case cloaking and stealthing and simplify it to three general characteristics of blocks:

    Emissivity:
Every device and block that does /something/ emits radiation over a large spectrum from kilometer wave radio to nanometer gamma-/ x-rays.
    including everything inbetween
of course not every device radiates with the same intensity at the same frequencies, but the possible radiation space encompasses pretty much the whole of EM radiation.
with the exact resolution of that emissions being whatever is affordable computing wise.

    then theres absorption/transmission.
this is again a spectrum graph that defines how much a block absorbs radiation of a given frequency.
some blocks absorb radio waves, some absorb visible light, others absorb IR.
with every block passed the emitted radiation gets dampened more and more.

    the last factor is reflection
obviously, it defines how much of a given portion of radiation gets (for simplicity i'd say diffusely) reflected from the block.

then you have one kind of sensor device
    passive sensors.
they have certain spectral sensitivities. some sensors are good in RF, some good in UV, others good in X-ray.
some can differentiate single eV differences between gamma rays but can only see gamma rays, others can monitor the whole spectrum at once but cant tell you anything about the kind of radiation they are detecting.
same deal for all of them, just different numbers in their datasheet.

you can create an active sensor by combining a passive sensor with some active sender.
you send out radiation which gets reflected and influenced by objects and then received by passive sensor arrays again.
this behaviour creates a lot of support possibilities out of the box, for example target painting and similar methods.

now we have a few variable sets which are relatively easy to understand but can be used for intricate sensor gameplay.

lets say you have an engine core thats emitting a lot of characteristic x-ray radiation.
you dont want to broadcast your drive type, but due to the characteristic radiation spikes its pretty clear to anyone who has a sensor what kind of drive you are using.
so you can encase your drive in a block type that happens to be good at absorbing x-rays.
you now shielded your engine from prying passive sensors, enhancing your stealth capabilities.

the same process can be applied to any kind of radiation and block.
if you dont want your enemies analysing your armor plating, place some dampening material over your hull thats tuned to your enemies active scanners so they cant penetrate down to your actual armor layer to tell what kind of armor your ship is using.

a very stealthy ship would then be one that has very good absorption ratings matched to the equipment it is using and to the sensors which are likely to be encountered.

counter stealth would then be to find out against which frequencies a given ship is badly shielded and thus can be found with.
say, ship has VHF dampening materials as hull and you use an x-ray scanner instead.

lots of intelligence and counter intelligence and sensor gameplay without much being hardcoded in by the devs.
encouraging players to design their ships in a smart way.

    SilverLight Industries

Founded as SilverLight Research by the United Nations in 2055 as a way to pool the research capabilities of many smaller companies into something that could assist with developing advanced Arkship technology, they were one of the few companies and organizations that could possibly compete with the globally powerful Nexus Corporation on a technological basis. Eventually, SilverLight expanded to include many other industries such as extraterrestrial mining and Arkship construction, assisting the U.N.’s Ark program through multiple facets of the project. However, the core project and top priority of SilverLight remained the artificial intelligence systems that would run the Arkships and assist humanity when they arrived on their new homeworld, Alioth. Soon after the last of the Arkships was completed, the U.N. shocked millions when it announced that Arkship resources were scarce, and that it would utilize an “artificial genetic selection algorithm” to decide who would live and who would perish in the oncoming apocalypse. Naturally, an uproar rose up, and riots and violent protests ravaged the streets of Earth in its last days. Recognizing that this was planned long before the Arkships’ completion, the Nexus Corporation, in cooperation with SilverLight and various other organizations, launched its own retaliation: “Project Cinderfall”. With SilverLight’s artificially intelligent algorithm development combined with Nexus Corp’s networking capabilities, Project Cinderfall circumvented the U.N.’s originally biased selection algorithm, allowing a much larger and more diverse population, including many members of SilverLight, to make it aboard the Arkships and into the rebirth of humanity in the age of Alioth.

I don't know if it could be a good idea, but maybe there could be an intermediate level... The breakthrough could be at two level: corporative and global. In such a way is also possible to create a real specialization between the different corporations...

Corporation: a certain skill becames available for the members of a corporation when a certain amount of its members have learned a specific skillset in the game; after that, the threshold needed became lower and for the second corporation is needed a lower effort to unlock the tecnology, for the third i became still more easy and so on...

Global: after a certain amount of players have learned the skill from their corporation, then it became a comon knowledge and the new tech is unlocked for everyone.

You should re-read what I've been writing because your imagination is running wild and going places I have not said anything that would direct it to.

The cryo bed or bed for short is just a physical terminal where you can log off and spawn at.  If you're on a guild crewed ship... you're doing stuff with your guild... are they not going to let you off when they stop at a planet or base?  Are you saying that if you log off any old place while you're on a ship flying through space piloted by someone else that you shouldn't appear there when you log back in?

Maybe the ragdoll advocates want to sleep in a bed... I just want a convenient place to log off and back on at where you vanish... that makes thematic sense.  A cryobed can be hidden away in a room so it hides the person vanishing into thin air... for the RP minded...  But it doesn't mean you're physically in the bed.  It's just a spawn point you can register at... or not... as you choose... that's disguised as something that fits in the setting.
