  1. I would not be surprised NQ has no idea how to implement it and has never even considered building in hooks to support such feature.. Power management would work in many places and solve many problems but ifyou never account for it it's real hard to put in after the fact. It's easier to just slap taxes on everything..
  2. I'd say the issue with DU right now is the lack of a playerbase. The few hundred still hanging around will not allow NQ to survive.
  3. Yes, this was not about what NQ said, it was about what those of us wo would not mind an actual wipe would understand that to be. I believe it woudl be in NQ's benefit if they get around to doing such a wipe closer to "release".
  4. I am pretty sure the number of people returning AND the possible new influx woudl far outnumber those who would leave. No one is advocating a complete wipe, we'r etalking a reset with all constructs removed and delivered to inventory as blueprints, Quanta erased and talent points returned to the pool. Many saying how they'd leave really would not, if they are still playing at this time, they woudl just dig in and start over. IMO NQ has nothing to lose and everything to gain by doing such a wipe. You may not agree, and that's fine.
  5. There is a LOT of talents that relate to mining and which will now be mostly deprecated. I talent reset woudl be the easiest way to go but it woudl be very nice if NQ finally got around to adding an "apply TP to queue" to allow for us to respec more quickly. Not that that option has been suggested .. oh, since the day they introduced talents..
  6. Lock and fire AvA will be glorious /s Do you really think that NQ, not able to pay the cost of their infrastructure now, will be able to get to the point where freefire for handguns will be possible? They can't even get lock and fire to work properly.. I would not be surprised if, like most of what was discussed this time last year, AvA is off the table for the moment, only to be reconsidered if and when NQ is in a more stable and financially secure place to undertake development of such a feature. In fact I expect that what we have now (including Demeter) will be pretty much what they will go to "release" with (early 2022) and from there they will just hope and pray that the hundreds of thousands of subscribed players they will need to survive magically show up AND stick around.
  7. Yeah, they will use a tool which will just remove all planet voxels inside the buidlng boundaries of your construct. So unless you built the full cube, your construct will be magically suspended in the air. Will be lovely to see many of these massive cubic holes. in the terrain.. such an improvement. This whole thing is just the next cost cutting exercise. They pretty much said as much.
  8. As usual, NQ stopped short of being transparent on the important bits. They do not dare discuss what happens if you do not pay the territory tax and literally push back the conversation from the subject when it came up.. I'm starting to think that, while his vision and communication was not great, JC was not just let go, he was pushed out because all this destroys the very foundation on which the game was built, it may be a shaky foundation and a limiting/limited one but this just rips the heart out of the game. And all because NQ is out of money and must do what it can to try and stay alive long enough for the hundreds of thousands of players they think they will get once they release. and they will need those number to stay alive to begin with.. More and more the game is hollowed out, all the active components are getting pulled out and replaced by a numbers game of pushing single numbers to save cost. Frankly, the concept of the game failed and now NQ is trying to save what they can.. They will start taxing people for territory, it would have been great if they had implemented power management to maintain your TU and in turn your constructs.. proper power management could have driven everything in game and it would have been an actual gameplay mechanic. Now they just slap taxes on everything and create sinks. Problem is that the new mining spreadsheet will not be able to sustain the flow of Quanta needed to drive the economy, let alone give players enough money to pay their taxes. And when the question is raised what happens to your stuff if you do not pay.. NQ shuts down and does not have the guts to provide clear and precise answers. What will happen is, big orgs, the less than a handful left, will start mining all mega nodes they can and mostly dump them to bots on the market to stack up on cash, those who benefitted financially from the many exploits NQ where plugged te hole but allowed the spoils to be left in play will start organizing camps on abandoned tiles. it's virtually impossible to leave stuff on a tile which remains inactive so these will get scooped by the rich few.. A planet reset is not enough, at least a partial wipe with reset of quanta will be needed to repair this and make the game have a chance. There is no reason for anyone to return to the game as it stands. Not only will the industry abandoned by the disaster of 0.23 fall prey to the vultures, so will anything else people who left had. And the game will become a playground for the rich few where the rest fight over scraps. But I get NQ does no longer have the ability to actually build the/a game, all they can do is continue to cut cost to try and survive long enough to see the hundreds of thousands of players come and save them by paying for subscriptions. Well.. dream on..
  9. The Demeter podcast really broke the mold for the game.. It shows that NQ has no way to actually fix the game and boils down to: We have no more money The cost of running the game is too much for us to afford So we are going to butcher the game mechanics to cust cost We're starting with mining Which will now be a completely fictional mechanic, there is nothing actually in the world, it is just a mini game run on your client, we just change a number in the database. The planet reset will be fun, the "solution" they have for digging out is a joke, it will just cut out the construct cube volume so you will end up with floating constructs .. It's a solution designed to not be used while at the same time being a "but we're here to help" excuse. The mining unit and territory upkeep solution is a direct result of terrible game design. they are just slapping "taxes" on it. Had they built in power management like many of us suggested going back.. 4 years ago.. it would have been .. a game..
  10. In all fairness, StarBase is a lot more viable in the long run still. Problem is many jumping from DU did not care to consider that SB is actually proper Alpha and really in an earlier, yet IMO better overal state than DU.. If the same people now jumped to New World, based on their previous action they wil lprobably just bumrush to L60 and then start crying there is no content. Fozenbyte has a plan, they know where to go and how to get there.. They also said it would take time and are not willing to give in to pressure to speed up their process. And as far as I am concerned, that earns them points. Fair enough, like NQ did, they certainly jumped the gun in going public too early but at least they did not pretend that their game is "beta" and were pretty clear they'd need at least two years to get the game ready. Did not stop the usual suspects from expecting polish and complete features. NewWorld is actually surprisingly good. I do not care for the PVP really. The lore and backstory is very interesting and the content is rich enough to make the game worth the price of admission several times over. As far as DU goes, there is no denying NQ seems to be making an effort but as I see it, the core of the game is the problem in the case of DU, it is too restrictive and limited to keep servers alive. Most of what is being introduced currently seems to be bolted on instead of integrated. NQ does not (or can't) go in and fix root cause for issues they encounter, they tag on new stuff to try and cover it up.. and that .. can't end well. Personally, I do not think the game will ever reach it's potential if NQ does not go back to the drawing board, jumps in and fixes the core issues the game has. This would both break many things and take time, but I think the result would be worth it. I do not think NQ has that time or the resources to do that. though. They seem to be pushing for a "release" at the latest Q1 2022, possibly even this December. They need to start making money, a lot of it and soon.
  11. @Zeddrick I doubt there will ever be another full wipe. The arguyment that new players need a chance to "catch up" is really not relevant here. Seeing how NQ copied the talent system EVE uses pretty much, it is trivial to get a character to a fairly well defined set of skills. From there it is specializations. While the xisting world in DU has many problems and has accrued a good bit of damage from not dealing with exploits very well, the talent system is not one fo those. I would like to see the NPE give higher talent point reward to allow new players to make choices and progress on the basic talents a tad faster. This would not affect more experienced players at all. A talent point bonus when using a referral link (like EVE does) woudl also not be a bad idea.
  12. NQ has no idea how to fix this issue,. The gam eruns fine on a local box with the exact same specs as Shadow so that is not the problem. The argument that the game is not supported in VM environments is also bogus as it does exactly that on GFN. This is not for Shadow to fix, it is a DU issue. And NQ does not care to address this.
  13. That website is proven to be at best inaccurate and in reality grossly misleading. We know the number of accounts at the start of Beta, as NQ removed that number from the website at that point. That number was last hovering around 45K I recall, We also know the concurrent player numbers during the first 2-3 weeks of beta which was peaking at around 3800 and then started to drop off. We know this because NQ left their API open so we had a live player counter for a while. Based on that websites number for MMOs we have pretty accurate numbers for, EVE and Star Citizen, their numbers are at best extremely bloated and unreliable. I'd be surprised if DU currently has an active population of more than 400-500 players. At this time, the game's presence on Twitch is pretty much zero. Most big orgs have pretty much closed up shop and moved on, ODY being the last one to do so.
  14. While I believe a wipe is going to happen, I do also expect that Talent points will not be lost. Points accrued since start of "beta" will be returned to the pool I think, and you wil receive blueprints for your constructs.
  15. I invited about 15 people into the game, paid the pre ""beta" pledge for 5-6of them myself.. All of them, including myself, left .. NQ has run out of steam and hopes the few people still here will now start recruiting for trinkets.. it will not do any good.. I would not dare recuit friends to this project.. I got burt anough by NQ, so thatnk but no.. thanks..
  16. and NQ declared it NOT an exploit by ALLOWING it. They did not say "We'll condone it while we work on a fix but will have any constructs using the exploiit once the fix is in place", they said it was ALLOWED which is not the same.. It's a prime example of how communicating badly sets expectations. NQ knew full well that many werebuiklding and selling ships using stacked elements. It was actively used to actually design nice looking ships. They _never_ even remotely hinted at the consequences they pretty much dumped on the few peopel they have left playeg the game. People who may have come in WELL after the initial announcement and who may not even be aware of it. OP makes the correct point that NQ can't just flip the switch like they did (and have no reversed). They can't just go around and delete constructs now that they closed this loophole. NQ tends to carpet bomb anything they can't go in for and fix specifically.
  17. It's simple, the exploit required more than one character working together to use it. That loophole is now closed but as long as you could build what you have by yourself (on one character), it does not fall under the exploit.
  18. No, NQ should bring in proper power/energy management so that an underpowerd ship would need to drop shields to enter warp while a properly designed ship can spool up warpdrives with shields active. NQ is still trying to deal with the technical debt they built up over the past 4 years and that pile is enormous. I doubt they have the capacity to even consider power management at this time as they have never accounted for it in their design and woudl need to goio in and rework pretty much everything to make it work properly. IMO, what's more likely is we'll see a "Core stress" like bolt-on "solution" instead (eventually).
  19. Being shot at should not impact warp initiation as long as shields are up. Just cancelling spool up because you get shot at feels very fabricated. Also, how does slowing down warp speed (in itself I see no issue with that) fix anything with regards to dropping out of warp? How is/was that an issue and how deos this change anything. On face value woudl warp speed being slower make it not easier to drop out of wwarp at a specific location? There is a lot of words in this devblog, but very little is being said..
  20. NQ pretty much copied the skill system used in EVE. Well, the top level, they forgot about most of the intricate inter-dependencies in that system. That said, the 80-20-20-80 system they adopted is fairly standard, what is misaligned is the modifier applied to the training time. What the above means is that you train 80% in 20% of the time and the the final 20% in 80% of the time needed for the complete skill. That is pretty standard in passive training MMO games.
  21. Why is this made so complex? I get what you are doing but it makes no sense to me at all. From what the devblog says. Your ship elements can have a 50% resistance to specific damage, but on a hit the full HP value of the damage type is still applied against the core stress even when the element absorbs a percentage of it. Shields are energy; hence they would mostly absorb (and have effectiveness diminished by) EM damage and deflect kinetic, thermal or explosive damage. Being able to shift the resistance profile for shields really makes no sense. Also, nice try spinning the feedback on the core ownership loss as if the concern was with PVP, it wasn't. The concern was that NQ was intending to implement this widely without regard for circumstance or location, pretty much was intending to burn the house down because someone picked a lock. It all feels like NQ does not have the ability to go in and really fix these issues, so they need to tag on more stuff to kind of work around it. Not something some here have been predicting would become a trend for quite some time. and so, here we are. If NQ had actually listened to feedback from a year or three ago and ensures the core tech was in place and ready to hold the feature and functional mechanics that would rely on it, we would be in a far better place... I still think NQ should let go of the idea they can make a somewhat real time combat system work, it's clear that the server tech, especially the backend, is not designed or capable to do this and cost saving needed to try and keep the lights on have further reduced the possibility of finding a way to make that work. I'd say it may be time to rethink the entire combat system.
  22. "there's some pretty rare stuff here" while mining bauxite Good effort, if only the game could live up to this..
  23. How do you end up with that idea? this seems like a mostly manual solution, .. for which NQ lacks the manpower to consistently enforce.
  24. Finally some decent actions to try and get perfromance up and clutter down. It would have been better though if this included a one time removal of all player constructs on markets, retunrned to player inventory as magic blueprints. So many junk at markets from players who left the game. A virtual wipe of the markets would be a good idea IMO.
  25. And still not a beep about further investment for the company developing DU.. And not a single word from the CEO since he took the job, all he does is post about Covid on Twitter, seems to not have any interest in representing NQ or DU and can't be bothered to even just come say "hi" .. The writing is on the wall.. in big fat capital letters ..
