  1. The impression I get is that they don't want production to be "AFK play" nor do they want a set it and forget it system regardless of incongruities their chosen course may cause.  I don't feel up to digging through CCP's old change logs to see when/why they added their version of this system or any of the public discussions about it there just to make a point.  At least with the current implementation it can be tuned as needed without as much risk of breaking stuff.

Thank you @Zeddrick for pointing out the conflict of interest (used in the legal/moral sense) inherent between DACs and the game mechanics that should work better without "fictional future money" being involved (or as involved).  There are a number of RL legal implications (varied by jurisdiction) for quanta being tied to RMT (even if centrally controlled by NQ) and it implicates us all, not just NQ.  For example, if a state/country bans all RMT in games then players in that area must quit playing else they may be held to account by authorities (and some authorities may make it retroactive).  Thankfully, I don't think there are (or likely to be) many players in states/countries that have harsh corporal punishment for minor crimes.  The real risk is when a large governing body (*cough* EU *cough*) bans RMT that may cause NQ and CCP to shutter (or outsource, another layer of risk) their servers.

well, if you go back a long way then yeah release should have a lot more content.

But in the years it got limited, and some more and some more and even some more and in the end you get a tea bag that is used about 100 times so the tea is not so dark anymore.

Game still has potential but potential is the same as dreams, they seldom become reality. We get a slice of the promised game at kickstarter still pay full, thats what happens when planning fails and glorious dreams of millions together on one server in the end turn out to be few hundred on one location is lag city.

If you have not invested over 200 to 300 euros yet on kickstarter promises maybe it is good to read more on these forums and wait on the free trial. If you have invested then your in the same ship I am and we just go on playing like nothing really matters, who knows in 5 years we have what we signed on to over 5 years ago, waiting for 10 years is nothing

Patience is rewarded one way or another, just be wary of blind allegiances.  NQ may or may not be able to achieve the initial goals but that does not hamper our individual nor collective imagination and the power of the sandbox tools we already have.  I still have the feeling that some sandbagging is happening that will not be revealed until we stumble upon it after release.   It may be the residual effect of copium so take it with a salt lamp (a grain seems inadequate).

I don't really see the trial being useful because DU is a game where the players create the content for each other (and then, cleverly, have to pay to host it for one another).  Without that created content and the interaction with other players all you have is a fun  building game.

Since the trial is in another sandbox there will be no player created BPs or orgs, no racing/other player created games, no new player help and support, no DSAT to find asteroids, etc.  So essentially you can just surface gather and build things.  You won't be able to get a feel for what the game is really like.

But you will be able to tell how grindy it is and how little there is to do if you don't interact with other players.

I don't really care about kickstarter promises, etc but I do want something to do in the game.  And I am reminded that this is still produced by the company which s deleting all the existing content from the game after having lied to us for a long time about their intentions to do so.  And the same company which made (or just didn't make any) bad game-management decisions which led to the sandbox being so badly broken it needs to be reset at all.

The least they could have done is add some content to replace what was deleted.

The trial server being completely separate puts potential players in a substantialy worse version of the game.  Not only will they not have the experience of interacting with "end game" components of the game (helpful players and orgs being a big part) but they will be putting up with all the spiteful people who go looking for free/cheap opportunities to make others feel hurt that we don't want in our game.  In that sense I think the trial server will be a rose with many blood stained thorns.

  3. With talk/plans to incorporate energy systems (I'll believe it when I see it) a brightness adjustment becomes considerably more complicated (and interesting).

I have seen some interesting lighting results with LUA so that may be an option if you are looking to achieve a certain visual aesthetic.  If you're just wanting to be able to see it better then you could try supplementing with a luma glass "bulb" surrounded by the color you want to diffuse/reflect.

  4. Why is it that when I use an emote the camera flips around to show to my action in the 3d person?

Aside from being a horrendous break in immersion, the fade rate/flicker of the forced perspective transition jolts my photosensitivity.   Thankfully I am not prone to seizures nor motion sickness.  When/if DU gets PCVR support it is a MAJOR problem to force the player out of first person perspective as well. It is possible to have 3d person in VR if done right.  It is also possible to change perspective but the player must be in control of the transition such as entering a seat for a dynamic construct.

  5. I would be for an XXS size core.  Jet packs and drones would be better represented at a scale smaller than XS.

To make drones more immersing and valuable require a player to control via a VR session or remote seat with 1st and/or 3d person view from/of the construct.

You realize the free trial accounts are not going to be in the same server right?

Ohh, I didn't. Then rock on! Thanks

The "trial" accounts will be on a different server.  There is also a gratis two weeks of game time being offered to prior players to get some of them to return. I suspect they will be on the subscription server at launch.

you just get to keep attacking me over and over until i eventually just go play something else.

This is why I quit playing laser tag; kids stalking you and shooting you the instant you quit beeping.  I would rather have bruises from paintballs than put up with someone getting a kick out of expressly ruining my fun time.  The same goes for online VR games.

I have heard many complaints about the grind in this game.  When I hear that I think about all of the immature people who just want to ruin my fun time without putting in any effort themselves that will get bored before they have a hope of finding me in the 'verse.  I want DU to be successful, but not at the cost of being a worthwhile experience.  For that reason I am also glad that the free players will be on their own server until they put some skin in the game.

Best not asked Question, will we be able to pick STU up after placing? if indeed new sanctuary moons are discovered and I want to relocate there i want to be able to pick up my STU

No, you cant move a STU once its placed.

At the moment you cannot move an STU but that does not mean it cannot be changed later.  If anything I would like to see them combine the mechanics of the STU with the mechanics of the HQ system and perhaps add placement buffs (stacking/in addition) when you use an HQ slot on an STU or other incentives/value added.

But the difference here is that normally and Indie developer releases a game and you pay money to play it, you own it.

That is not accurate.  Online games, even of the "one time purchase" variety, normally operate on a per seat/install license with restricted use (ToS, EULA, etc.).

    31 minutes ago, Cergorach said:

    expect us to pay more

To be fair, it was touted as a subscription service from the beginning (i.e. they always expected more payments).

it's also extremely wasteful of RL energy

It is a game.  You cannot (directly) produce anything of RL value within the confines of the game legally (Indirectly?  Stream Ad revenue).  I sincerely hope you did not expect anything more than an enjoyable waste of time at the least.

That said, NQ has fumbled a few times.  You have every right to feel hurt by as of yet unfulfilled promises. You have legitimate complaints that have been given more gravity by less than stellar communications from NQ.  I cannot tell how much is negligence, how much is incompetence, and how much is from legal restraint and pressure from (non-player) investors.

I suspect that future projects will refer to how NQ defined alpha, beta, and release.  Until we have a year of release I would not dare predict if their example will be viewed in a positive manner or not.

I haven't tried it recently, but I've used them and by default they would always automatically throttle opposite acceleration of gravity, and holding spacebar would put them at 100% power.

That may be related to what I'm seeing.  It does not matter what direction my ship is oriented in/leaving orbit, the down space engines are 'on' and appear to be matching my current forward throttle.  This behavior can destabilize an otherwise clean orbit.  Even if I fire my upward engines the down engine only cuts off so long as I am actively firing against it.  To reiterate, this behavior does not seem to occur when entering a pilot seat while the ship is outside of atmo.  I need to play with it more to find the edge cases.

    17 hours ago, Deathknight said:

If you are going to use downward firing space engines, I would suggest using a gyro oriented 90 degrees. When leaving the atmosphere, hold space until you are over maybe 6k altitude, then toggle the gyro. At that point, you can control your space engines like normal (in either cruise or throttle mode).

I have quite a few ships setup with space engines like this, since I find it is more efficient use of space. I just setup a hotkey for the toggle and it works like a charm.

I love (some) gyro ships but it will be a hard sale to a new player who can barely pilot a speeder.  I will test to see if placing a gyro disables this effect akin to how placing an adjuster on a dynamic core cuts your chances of having docking prevention shoot it into orbit.

I'm a super legate for two organizations. What will happen after launch? Will I be stripped of ownership of one organization, if so, which one?

It is based on who is in the super legate role.  Only super legate will be in orgs after the reset.  If an org does not have a player in the super legate role then the org will be deleted.  If an org has a player in the super legate position then the org will be retained.  You can only be in five (5) orgs at a given time but there is nothing preventing someone from being super legate of 5 orgs.

    Wrong.

New players do not get Territory unit which they could use in Sanctuary. They can safely build and keep what ever they want at Heaven. If tiles run out in Heaven NQ can open Sanctuary for NPE.

The Sanctuary Territory Unit was originally designed to be a cash shop item, meaning anyone who wants land on Sanctuary should be able to buy one or more STU.  Certain founder/backer packs already have 1-2 STU at launch meaning they get first priority for prime land.

If NQ has been sand-bagging (it is possible) and we launch with multiple solar systems there is a chance that many who rush to place their STU in the safe space version of Sanctuary will feel cheated out of the real value of the STU once the first Sanctuary in non-safe space is discovered. In the meantime, the STU is a tax dodge with prime locations.

It looks like it's been a while since we've dusted off the ol' roleplay & lore section of the forums!

Look what I found under a few feet of compressed dust!  I try to avoid digging up old posts, you never know when you may cut a fiber or gas line.

    1.  Not yet.  Even among all of the castles and arcades it has been nigh impossible to find functioning fanatical friends that even suggest RP.

    2.  Show, don't tell.  I'm not going to dictate autobiography for just anyone.

    3.  I could see there being a book or two just expounding and filling in back story for the opening cinematic, including who/what may have been alert and active during the trip.

    4.  The topic in general has been sorely neglected.  Perhaps some in-game tools specific to RP and/or machinima such as camera element linked to a seat/remote.
