    Without saying too much, we knew. Players knew stuff like this could happen. We were worried for beta launch. There is a reason we are all here and so passionate about the game - it is will be great. The player driven economy, massive single shard universe, fully editable and persistent environment, ship building and physics, this game has things that have never been done before. It is incredibly ambitious. And, you're right, it wasn't ready for public beta with a subscription model.

    I hope you return at some point and get through the rough edges and into the fun parts.

    Nobody knows any more. It used to be that an open beta was for finding bugs in an essentially feature-complete game, the kind of bugs that only show up when lots of people are playing on lots of different hardware configurations. During a beta, polishing and improvement of existing features would continue, and maybe one or two small bonus features would get added, but nothing fundamental would change, because change adds bugs, and the beta was there to try and eliminate those before "launch".

    Nowadays, it can be anything from a fund-raising exercise to a charged test of an Alpha build by any other name. This game is not the only culprit in "stretching" the definition.

    I, a damn pirate, had to build a industry line to offer res nodes at 150000 because without me the price would be 1M.
    Thats the player economy working for you. Pirates selling res nodes..

    Sounds reasonable for crafting, but how would you translate raw materials into voxels? Are voxels now going to be 1000 times more expensive?

    @Hades
    Sure, I get that. The point I am making is not that there should not be PVP, that NQ has not laid out their idea of where PVP can occur or how it will work (to an extent).

    The point is that I believe NQ has a different vision as to what place PVP has in the game. The game does not revolve around conflict, combat is a means available to resolve disputes which can't be resolved otherwise much like I see and hope wars in RL are. I get there are those who wish to see DU turn into a battlefield asap and intent to do what they  can to make that happen. I feel those will basically destroy the vision NQ has for the game and frankly take away from it what may well be the differentiation DU can bring.

    From my perspective it is this what makes NQ decide where a mechanic can or should not be allowed to impact performance of the game overall. I could obviously be mistaken about this but I believe NQ has a more positive vision for NQ than 'I shoot you because I have a weapon and so because I can'

    There's already too many warmongering and too many organisations with only one purpose and one thought on how to grab and control as much territory they can get their hands on. And arranging mutual beneficial agreements and alliances are not part of that for them.

    And before anyone goes and rips the above out of context.. all of it is IMO and not anything I claim or know will happen. It's a shame I have to make sure this is clear but I guess it is what it is.

    There won't be 24/7 server access for a long time yet. Perhaps by the second half of 2019 if all goes well...

    As an ETA for Alpha1 has not been announced yet and based on what normally would be a development cycle/process for this type of project, it would be reasonable to assume 24/7 server up time would not happen until (close to) Beta. So second half 2019 is hardly speculative, even with no actual knowledge of the existing state of development it's a decent guesstimate maybe even on the optimistic side.
