  1. Point defense systems that can be made to target separate, non-player entities. It's going to be needed anyway as people plan on making drones, or attempting too. However the ideas for a defense system could possible go out of the bounds of that to shields, building underground, etc, etc. As for whether there will or will not be meteors/asteroids colliding with planets, unsure. A lot of people have been pondering this question for a while and from my knowledge we really have no idea how they are going to handle the planets that end up looking like swiss cheese. There was some talk of slow regeneration somewhere, but I guess it will all come down to the way that we, the players, mine the planets. You could just make a vast underground network and essentially core the planet, or you could just dig holes everywhere. I mean, at this point, with no idea how any sort'a regeneration will work, this is the way you have to think.
  2. Interestingly enough, it seems the way he spoke about it, it was a single undo. Though, I could be wrong, I watched the video again and there is no UI flags, but being able to undo and then redo also is pretty cool. I just really hope this includes a symmetry mode though, I'd hate to have to do everything manually, man. I would get way to perfectionist over it... However! The plane -- plane placement for building is really interesting and useful, I can't wait to see what the limitations of that are
  3. Looking good so far! I'm sure it will only get better with a little time and work
  4. I imagine it would work as either you stated or possibly with a different spin, You have a first and last name, you can use the same last name as people but not the same first (seen this used multiple times). But, the good old ArmA method, without seeing it works; i.e, Anasasi Anasasi (1) etc, etc. As for the forum names being your final name? I doubt the forums going to have much crossover when it comes to naming unless you want to call yourself the same as your forum name.
  5. Good luck growing this organisation of misfits
  6. Yes, whilst this is true, you also have to remember that these guys are going to be running a cloud server, which at the moment are not the most cheap things you can purchase and run. See, ARK has a huge difference there, know what it is? They don't run the 1000s of servers they have, it's also not an MMO. The servers are bought, rented or run by the players, which reduces the costs on their end. These guys are trying to run thousands of players online at the same time on the same server structure, not thousands broken into separate servers of up to 100 people. They aren't even comparable to be honest and I don't know why I am trying. Players that want to play this game will pay what they have to, whether it is P2P or not - they will because they want too.
  7. It would indeed make for an interesting time. I think this is a sound idea, as long as the buffs aren't extreme and are just more to do with some mundane stats that we hate trying to deal with so people actually use it
  8. Pollution and destructive forces that we create ourselves on each planet would definitely be an interesting thing. Maybe that could bring in the days of terraforming, where you need specific gases and things to run a giant orbital machine that re-structures the composition of an atmosphere and allows us to safely work there again. Alternatively, maybe there should also be a preventative measure that you can place on the planet that runs in a similar fashion, uses far less of the gases and minerals but runs a balancing program to balance the planets ecosystem out. Eventually you could use this technology to make planets viable for us use (and abuse). Or as stated above: We just save the planet by running preventative measures.
  9. Alpha members, I believe are picked based on community interaction, how they helped/assisted the team, social media interaction, etc, etc. There is a whole bunch of measures they use. But i'm sure it's probably not too hard to meet these expectations, it's just more a thing of whether you get chosen or not in the end!
  10. I believe he meant something a little more in depth, but that works too. I know where you are pointing
  11. Not that I am aware of at this current moment. They probably haven't quite announced enough to do with certain aspects to do this yet. Granted they have released a lot of information, they just haven't said enough about everything. The game is still being built, a page like this will come soon enough - it's a good idea, don't get me wrong, I just believe there is a lot that needs to be ironed out before they make a page like that.
  12. No, it's not actually. It may seem that way. But this allows the developers continued support of a playerbase that knows what they are playing. EvE, WoW, etc. have survived and even thrived on this method of Payment. Why wouldn't they do it? MMOs require huge monthly upkeep for all aspects, they pay for the servers, the pay their employees to make content. As well as the usual bills, etc. One off payments give you a huge balance to begin with, then the payments drop off significantly, thus making them have to budget the initial money to stretch for 5 - 10 years, which is not easy. Plus, I'd prefer P2P to having them release a game at 60 - 80 dollars and then have 5 DLCs at 30 each. This is a fine method. **Edit: Yes, it may make it hard for the player, but guess what? Can't afford it for a month, you can make the money to buy game time in game or you just don't pay the sub till you can afford it.
  13. Hello and welcome, glad to see another large group moving in!
  14. This is the issue with a lot of games at the moment that I see - i.e, AAA titles have Youtubers play them for the expansive advertising, in the test periods, but not providing proper feedback making the loop endless and having a game come unfinished because the people that do it are just playing it. Therefore not fixing anything. Anyway, I just hope they limit the amount of people able to buy in to early access at that stage, or have a two stage alpha where specific groups are allowed in to test and then move on to opening to the kickstarter buyers alpha. We aren't going to see this game as playable till probably early - mid next year at best in regards to the public arena. So, just hold on to your seat, stick around, drink some tea and relax.
  15. You have to remember, there will always be that one guy that uses VoIP to play music in a local area. Use him to your advantage, lol. This idea is sound and the ability to place banners with our own PNGs/GIFs, whatever would be nice. However as stated above, everything will be player built, so you can do this on your own or with the assistance of others. The devs really aren't going to have much say in the events, unless of course it breaks something related to EULA. More-over, they probably will be assisting you and you'd never know , they just wouldn't be exclusively dev run events or buildings.
  16. Initial Distribution will be stand-alone from any of the major PC Platforms. After a time, who knows. It would be good for convenience sake to have it on Steam or GOG or something, but they've never really handled P2P games too well.
  17. Whilst I like and enjoy the concept of building huge structures - I prefer getting down to the nitty gritty, digging, mining, transport. I always found commanding fleets of miners rather interesting if not mining myself. I tend to work in larger organizations but as a solo member unless work is needed in large numbers. I also like piloting large ships, so, possibly some form of capital captain later on when its a viable thing.

    Cryo Pods

We have had no confirmation on the mechanics of this, but it will probably be something similar to that or you'll just fade away from existence. There is another thread related to this, just for you too look over here. Whilst I would prefer a cryo pod system, it'll be interesting to see how the dev team tackles this situation. As you don't want to be waking up many, many miles away from where you logged off with a mysterious crew that you've never seen before who promptly eject you. Though, you never know, that still may be a way to pirate even with Cryo Pods We'll see.
  19. The first part is unfortunate, though, understandable. Too many calculations would be needed for so many people if things collapsed, don't think the servers could really handle that. As for the second part, I like to assume artificial gravity will be a thing allowing you to make specific directions upright on a structure (i.e, space engineers gravity generator) this makes the idea of gravity on board work as everyone will be on the same axis. As for a symmetric cube, it would depend upon which side the generator were on. We'll see how it all works, but we have to assume they have something that pulls artificially.
  20. It'll happen, you just have to give it time. Whilst originality will help an org. possibly grow quicker, the familiar name will probably attract people. It's only a matter of time to see how this all goes, really, I'm sure more will start popping up.
  21. Monumental station in the shape of a Kangaroo. Gotta represent Australia, yo'.
  22. The thruster system would have to have enough fuel to hold it up for long enough, its never going to be able to be permanent unless there is an efficient way to use the hover engines at 'x' height and have them keep you up there. The idea being that this would be a hard structure to kill, because to get on board you'd need to get close enough - but you'd obviously have anti ship/hover craft guns, depending on how it all works. Anyway, interesting idea. Once we know a bit more about how the systems work this may flesh out and be efficient or just be too inefficient to continue being feasible.
