  1. Do we have any idea on the timescale of research?  I heard something similar to eve but cut back a little.  Which is kinda what i'm hoping for, but I was wondering if they've talked anywhere officially on that?

It will all depend on how much time you invest in the game. If someone says 2 weeks and you play 1 hour every day for 2 weeks, it won't be the same as 5 hours each day for 2 weeks. NQ wants this game to be an investment into learning aspects of the game. The more time you put in, the more skill you get out.

  2. I think it looks really cool. I really like the simplistic, Borderlands feel to the design. It's funny how you have normal characters like constructors, soldiers, and outlanders. Then you have NINJAS! Because no game is good without ninjas

  3. Unfortunately DU has players from across the globe so night in-game will still have a ton of players. That being said, secret bases are a sure fire thing with a lot of off limits testing happening. The possibilities are endless so start thinkin'

  4. The developers have gone over it, just never as an individual topic or video. They have mentioned how the market will start/emerge and how players will keep it growing.

The market will start with bots that buy and sell based on everyone else to get the ball rolling. Then will slowly be taken out as the economy grows and people use the market more. Supply and demand will be the name of the game like everyone said. If mineral A takes 5 minutes to mine a single piece while mineral B takes 20 minutes to mine a single piece, the mineral B will be more expensive than mineral A (not actual times, just an example). Just like the real world

  5. The Seed Ship will be designed to allow attaching your personal construct to it. You may stay attached and journey with the cluster or detach at any place along The Cluster's route. This might be a good colonization option for you or your small Org.

First off, Welcome to the community and gl on your org.

Second, will you be charging to attach a personal construct to the Cluster?

  6. But what if people build Gargantea type ships? Hell lot of civilians on board and the children...THE CHILDREN!

Again, the bigger the ship, the slower everything moves. If you build a Gargantia Ship, you better have 360 degree gun range or you are doomed. Mount them everywhere or make sure everyone knows this is a hub for something/a center that is used by all. If one group doesn't use the giant ship, it's game over for you

  7. Yes. It's like each of us would be the only one who could ever respawn (from our own perspectives) because whenever someone else died they'd vanish from the universe. Then when you die, you go to an identical universe where they also vanished. So once everyone dies, you will be alone :o

    giphy.gif

  8. That is an interesting question. Like they said, it is a game so the explanation doesn't have to be perfect.

What I've always wondered is: if when you die it switches you (the person who died to a new universe), doesn't that mean that you are in a different universe now? So to you everything is the same except you're alive, but to everyone else in the old universe you're still dead. So following the lore, we'd all end up in different universes.

Would we each then being playing private games that look public once each one of us dies? By this logic, once everyone has died we would all be in our own universes that look like the same universe

  9. By blocking the sun you put the world into an ice age causing the hill to ice over including you and the throne.

I survive in an apocalypse shelter I built under my house

Now the only one left, I drive an RV to the top

I use a jackhammer to cut the iced throne and Eclipse913 from the hill and give you a small push leading to you sliding to the bottom

I happily live in the RV atop the hill watching the SImpsons on my couch

I Am the Lazy King of the Hill

  10. Ya know... I've been playing MMO's for a long time... and I've seen LOTS of different things happen that, for me personally, made the game less interesting...  over the years I've coined a term for it --- pablumizing ---

Pablumizing is what happens when a games features are replaced by over-simplification...

So I played WoW back when it first hit the scene... I favored certain aspects of the game... one of the types of characters I really found myself enjoying was the Hunter class character...  and there were aspects to those hunters that made them a challenge to play effectively.

As time passed, Blizzard, in their infinite wisdom, chose to water down some of the aspects of playing a hunter character... they changed how you skilled, they changed how you skilled your pet... they changed how quickly you would have a pet as a hunter to help you along... they made it so you had fewer weapons you could carry (ranged vs melee) etc... they even introduced an 'expansion' that to many were the equivalent of 'Facebook Games' where you'd assign an 'NPC' to run missions for you and then reap the rewards...  and in the process you got to build a mediocre 'Garrison' you could call 'home' in a sense... but one that was 'instanced' in the same physical location every other player got to build their garrison... it wasn't really an effective place to invite your guildies to hang out in (in fact they couldn't really enter it unless you were there with them)....

Eventually... they pablumized my interest right out of the game...

I'm all for a certain amount of automation... I think auto-turrets with a certain amount of 'automation' built in to them would be 'ok', but that a 'crewed gun' SHOULD be able to do better...

A large ship might be flown by a single pilot, but to operate effectively and to its potential should require someone to crew it...

I would HATE to see someone be able to 'eventually' build something like a 'Death-star' and then single handedly be able to pull it up to the planet I'm living on and blast me, my base, and my friends into oblivion... LOL

I've seen plenty of people cry boo-hoo on forums about "Oh wouldn't it be cool if we could make this simpler...." and the obverse of "OMG WHY DID YOU MAKE IT SO SIMPLE!?!?"

Frankly a game that holds my interest for any length of time is one that challenges my abilities to think, plan, and prosper.. something that requires More than just point and click and if I happen to have the higher level or the better gear anyone that stand in my way is dead meat....

That's what drew my interest in wanting to play this game.  If ya want point and click click click click click go play the Family Guy Quest for Stuff or Disney Magic Kingdom... or better still, <insert name of choice>Ville on Facebook.

    'nuff said!

    *jaw drops*

    *slow claps*

    This is perfectly said

  11. Hmm, maybe a Build Zone that you can set up that allows you to use unlimited jetpack within that zone? Outside of that zone, you can fly for a limited amount of time before the jetpack runs out and fills up again. Or you can use the resource consuming pack for infinite time outside of the zone. Choose one.

Like a ranged charger that is attached to the construct/CU

  12. It might take a while... but wow that would be an awesome creation achievement...  :D

Wonder how many planets we'd need to chop up to accomplish it...

There have been a couple very large, multi-year projects that have been talked about but if someone can design this, that would be incredible and probably take multiple planets of resources to make.

  13. So, I was thinking, what if, you can make more or less of your body cybernatics? So, replacing your other arm with robotic arms for example.

    Some key modules:

-Advanced Brain: makes skill training quicker

-Caloric converter: turns food into energy useable by implants

-Energy converter: turns energy into calories

-Backup Life Support: backup systems to replace failing organs from combat(or something) to prevent dying long enough to get to safety

    Biology route

    -Needs organic food

    -not as much endurance

    -more fragile

    Cybernetics route

-Needs expansive repair materials and energy cells

-Drugs Performance-enhancers doesn't work as well

    -Needs skills to implant/use

Please be respectful and post your suggestions here!  :)

Addressing your key modules, not sure if the custom implants would be a progressive inclusion.

The advanced brain would be very unfair down the long road. NQ wants the game to be progressive and a skill based game. They want you to work your way through the game, not get easily boosted. With an implant that speeds up skill training would throw away their entire idea of a long working skill tree.

Energy converters should be from the environment, like sun, heat, water, not food. They don't want to add food till way down the road so converting food to energy would not be added. It would be better seen as an upgrade to your armor/exoskeleton which turns your movements into energy, or the heat from the planet into energy.

I do like the Backup Life Support idea but again more for armor/exoskeleton. Maybe a revival system that gives you another boost. An injection and a shock and you get another "life" depending on how much damage is done to you. If you get shot down and then continue being shot, I don't see this working because you most certainly should be dead, but if you suffer damage and get downed, maybe you get another chance with this revival system.

Like ATMLV said, a lot of the ideas here would probably be better implemented into a progressive armor system. Maybe for these implants they allow you to move about the world in a unique way. Like a hand implant that allows you to access certain doors or controls when you get near them instead of using a key. A sort of NFC system for your body. It can detect your player based on the implant and grant you access or controls to machines, weapons, ships, and so on.

  14. Meh, the devs doesn't have all day for that. I think it would be best if there was a reporting system for players to use. Also, I was thinking transfer the file by transmissions.

Yeah, I know they don't have the time. Unfortunately, even with a reporting system, it still would never work well and would be a huge pain in the rear. Maybe a library of pre-made symbols, shapes and so on. Then logos for orgs can be submitted for eval. Maybe only for orgs meeting certain criteria so that people aren't abusing the submission logo tool to make symbols and such.

  15. His arguements are barely "based " on anythign.

He calimed CvC comes first - I pointed out CvC was a stretch goal up until a few weeks back.

He said he likes simplicity - I pointed out the game's about complexity withe the interview video JC gave.

He said it's a lore thing - it's not, they got RN in the Lore, they can easily tdo energy drain.

He's just strawman argueing at this point. He'll never find any answer to this. He's just a hater who wants to just grief people in-game and wants to just gank them - you know, what in EVE we call nooblords. Just look at his argueing. He has ZERO facts so far.

    Ill settle at that

  16. Unlimited and controlled are not the same.

Having a dyson sphere and no batteries to store the energy, is like having no dyson sphere at all.

Well, seeing unlimited is a unit of measuring an amount and controlled is a verb no they aren't the same  ;) .  That's why I said we extract the gases or harness solar rays for solar energy. It would need some starting energy but once you start efficiently converting power, you can just feed some power back into the sphere
