  1. I will reactivate this thread when the first companies fall, the first big constructs got destroyed or hacked. When traders lost all thier goods because of a space bully. When some players start crying about the injuistice of some outlaw actions. Looking forward to that moment... ;)

You say that as if any of those things are bad things. Excessive antagonism will be handled by NQ under the ToS, anything else is just content.

  2. I play EVE.

I love the politics, the market, and the depth of gameplay/social experience. I hope the same kind of epic stories come from DU, and I think they will. Perhaps even more so if DU is more customize-able, which it looks like it will be. Even the drama and intrigue that has arisen so far is impressive considering the game isn't even in alpha yet and people are having pseudo wars already haha.

I dislike how entrenched things are in EVE. It is hard for a few people to come in and just make a little space for themselves without one of the larger groups wiping them out, which means that if you want to play you basically have to conform to the bigger groups. The world can also start to feel a bit small sometimes. I wish there was a way to go down on the planets as well, but that's a minor wish.

All in all it's a great game and I hope DU is as good as, if not better than, EVE.

  3. Sounds good, good thing it isn't like SE where it just tells you where it is exactly. Scanning for rare (>500m depth) metals is probably going to involve a lot of probe shafts to get to the right level for them

I imagine that scanning will probably involve a lot of underground exploration and test digs. I'm really glad to hear that there will be incentives to dig down into the planets.

I hope there will be giant veins so there could be a community build on them instead of a "mine it and move" mindset.

This is what I hope too. One of my biggest worries with this game is that if the rate of resource depletion not being properly balanced and, as you say, leading to a "mine and move" mentality. I would love to see mining sites turning into little towns and outposts.

  4. I think that, at the very least, they should make a way to see all the organizations that a person is a part of. Then groups could audit new members and do a background check of sorts. Then what they do with that information is up to them.

Simple to implement and supports emergent gameplay.

  5. I'd like to see the political parties system. That would mean that we should have a voting system, maybe ingame so the identity of the voters is verified. Pretty much like te Democracy in Europe.

I think that will be possible under the proposed RMDS system. Of course, that will only happen if people want it to happen, and most groups will probably not go for a democracy. I can't imagine political parties working out too well either; they'd probably just lead to civil war.

  6. Hi Tencoin and welcome to DU!

There a number groups that offer great support and a friendly environment. I wouldn't worry too much about committing to one group or another immediately. Look around and talk to people, and find a group of people you enjoy being with.

  7. Greetings Eminio! It would be nice if the kickstarter could continue to take in $ and still give out rewards for a while.

Gonna get some heat for this one... ^_^

Hey are you calling us Wacky :o LOL? I don't think we appear too strict.  Honor in piracy please, there is no honor in stealing from other people, only greed.

I think it will be possible to continue to contribute through their shop after they set it up

  8. Most of us have passed a ferrari dealership and then looked down at or Kia keys mournfully.

So blueprints will be made and sold. What if i buy a blueprint and decide to copy it and undercut the cost? Perhaps use the name, perhaps use lower spec parts?

What if I script the ship to ail so it becomes more of a rental thing... ? You want revenge but all you can afford is a brick with a catapult attached? What about renting a Deathstar from me? Naturally any damage would have to be paid for and it will revert to brickiness if you run away (or will ignore you and fly back to my shipyard of unfortunate death?

    Because imaginary fraud is fun!

Blueprints cannot be copied with out permission. The only way you could do this would be to make your own blueprint inspired by the design of the other one. If you want to use lower quality materials you can but it will be reflected in the quality of the final ship. You can then sell your cheaper version for less money of you want. That's just the market at work, no fraud involved.

  9. Well, if things go as planned, it will probably take a month+ to get the infrastructure in place, just to start on getting everything needed to make the parts for ships (Totally dependent on how much time is able to be spent).

So, if you look at it as we're starting without even the infrastructure to create a ship yet, and building from scratch the entire infrastructure needed to begin the construction... not having space combat (or even CvC at all) at the beginning doesn't break the game. Plus, with what was pledged on Kickstarter, if they mark the extra for CvC as it was the first stretch goal, then it could be out in an earlier patch than if they hit the minimum funding amount.

    -M

Yeah this is exactly what I have been saying in a number of threads. I was merely agreeing that not having it in at launch doesn't make fantastic advertising. "You can build space guns" sounds much better than "You will eventually be able to build space guns". It makes no difference in terms of gameplay and is probably a good thing, just in terms of marketing.

  10. The mining mechanic is fundamentally a time sink, you are trading time for valuable product, if you make it so that a veteran player can mine 10 times as much a newbro you will make mined resources 10 times cheaper and the newbros will lose out and be more likely to quit.

What you want to do is give tools that allow veteran players to locate the more precious ores, so that one veteran can recruit a bunch of newbros and actually have them be really useful on day one.

What I would like to see is "entry level" mining being a fun exploration mechanic like in minecraft (cave diving) but then to get the best resources you need to build scanners and dig shafts that go down deep to the big and rare ore deposits but the pay off is worth it if you work as a team. You could even have secondary market of "prospectors" who go out and locate stuff and then sell the information to miners.

The worst thing they could do is do it like empyrion, where you just have these huge deposits and you are just sitting there for hours digging away at a the same blob of iron.

Agreed. At max, higher skilled players should be able to mine no more than 2-3 times more than a new player. What they should do is give veteran players more tools/skills that make mining more interesting. Things like finding better ore and being able to harvest it, or compressing ore or refining faster/better. Things like that give people an incentive to invest time in training it but don't totally eclipse new players.

  11. From what i understand so far is there is DAC as the main traide token in the game and it will buy you ingame time, Land/mineral rights

A land owner clamed a grid on a planet that is clamed with a claming unit obtained from the ark ship with a DAC

DACs cannot buy territory units. DACs can only be exchanged for game time or sold to other players for in game money
