  1. I'm out of likes still so I'm going to give you a text based like. I like your post, Lethys
  2. There is already a thread going. I say this mainly because I don't want to transfer what I wrote over here

    DU Memes

Buy her a pledge. Convert her to gaming. Teach her the way of the meme.
  4. Doesn't matter! The thread base been created!! Welcome btw The new screens look amazing! Since it can load svg data I could theoretically recreate du-stats in game, or at least part of it. People can create games, or if we can hook sensor data into it we could make radar stations (sort of) that would give sensor readouts visually! This is amazing! And the damage model is good to see too makes it so people have to be careful when they fly. Graphically, everything is looking good. Honestly, if you can get alpha out before SC gets their alpha 3.0 out, DU is going to make some huge waves in the gaming world. (And will anyways, but getting out before would put DU way ahead in 'the race')
  5. Ugh I thought this was done. This should have been sent directly to NQ to deal with. And what do you know ... Mm is back earlier than I expected...
  6. How can I get by with 10 when I see so many great posts?
  7. Hello and welcome to the community! We are glad to have you many of us have similar feelings of looking for a place where things work. We are still waiting for alpha so the game is still a ways off. As to who the big players are, I will do my best to give a summary but itis always important to do your own research. The biggest group is Terran Union, run by UniversalG and FleetAdmiralCoke. They are a good group of people but have had a lot of infighting and restructuring over the years. Next up is Band of Outlaws or BOO of which I am a member. We are the second largest group. Cybrex is the big dog with us and supported by our staff. We are a bit like the mafia of memes; we are a bit rough around the edges but in the end we just want to have fun. We value community, fun, and freedom. We currently play a bunch of other games while we wait for DU. After that, there is Cinderfall Syndicate. The best way to describe them would the United Nations but in space. Astrophil runs them and he is a great person. They have had a few setbacks recently but they have a lot of players and groups who are focused on building things. Then there is the Empire, a quiet group but they are well put together. Leonis is the one I see most active over there. Then there are a number of smaller groups that come in all shapes in sizes. The big thing for looking at groups is not what they promised but whether you like the people. So talk to people, join Discords, play games with people, and find some friends For further info, check out the community discord or the Dual Universe Historical Society. Kurock did an excellent write up of some of the communities history.
  8. Like Lethys said, Real Life and DU don't always compare well. However, in the case of the Swiss their main advantage has been that they are not a very valuable location. Secondly, they have managed to ingrain the idea of neutrality into their history and image, so groups are discouraged from attacking them. This is point 2 from the non-violent section. If someone were to attack them, they could easily run to the other side for help and support. This is point 2 from the violent options. So you see, it is not an exception to what I said
  9. Couldn't agree more. When the game launches and people have to deliver on all the lofty promises they are going to realize that it's a lot harder to run an org than getting people to join. You should be skeptical of anyone who tries to sell you anything more than "we'll see"
  10. If a group is coming to attack you there are two scenarios that do not involve fighting: You can persuade them to not fight. This usually will not work, especially if you have no muscle to back it up. You can prevent them from fighting, either through espionage or propaganda. This is not always possible either, and it takes time to set up and implement so it can't do anything against surprise attacks or unknown groups. Most of the time, the above will not work for various reasons. If those don't work, there are three possible outcomes: You fight. You get someone else to fight for you. Either a mercenary group or allies. You die. So, my argument stands but I will expand upon it: At the end of the day, either you can defend yourself (through someone fighting), or you are helpless and have to rely on luck to not die.
  11. At the end of the day, you are either helpless or you aren't. Maybe you have friends who will protect you, but that still means they have to fight. Eventually, someone has to have the power to fight. All you can do is defer it to someone else. And if you can't do that, you are helpless. (Edit: Sorry for double post)
  12. Like Lethys said, this topic is about post-release. There won't be enough people in the testing phases to properly conduct "wars" anyways. Battles, sure, once combat is implemented in Beta. But not Alpha
  13. It is essentially an ecosystem. Although, it will have to be properly balanced with regards to inputs and outputs, as well as recycling.
  14. It has been long known that there are certain questions players must answer when they start playing a game. The first is usually "Can I stand in fire?". It seems the second is "Can I breed with rocks?"
  15. There are three character slots per account. As mentioned, sharing your account (even with family members) is against the rules. Technically it could be done (though I'm not condoning it at all) but there are a number of limitations which I think would make it undesirable to try and share an account. Characters on the same account cannot be logged in at the same time, even from different computers. There is no way around this. So anyone sharing the account would not be able to play together. Characters do not share skills and only one account can train skills at a time. Unlike most games, character skills are not gained through grinding but rather train in real time, even when logged off. This means that if you were to share an account between three people and were able to distribute the training time perfectly evenly across the characters, after one year of playing you would be no higher "level" than someone who had been playing for only four months. Accounts are treated as one person by the rest of the community and NQ. So if someone on an account does something, everyone on that account has to live with it. This could come in the form of a ban or even something such as getting kicked out of an org because a character on the account is in a rival group. I feel these technical limitations make account sharing essentially worthless. Sure you can save a few bucks but you just gut your play experience. If you have multiple people in your family/friends that want to play you should all get separate accounts. Additionally, I'd like to state again that account sharing is clearly in violation of the rules and if caught you will be banned. Period.
  16. Good luck with this seems like a good service
  17. There is a lot more to war than front lines. There are supply lines, overseers, auxiliaries and numerous other jobs that need to be done that don't involve direct combat. As mentioned above, you may not want to fight but you better hope there is fighting or else there will be very little demand for people who don't fight. Without destruction, production will slow to a crawl. Just because you don't want to pull a trigger doesn't mean you won't like war.
  18. In this game, war is fun and it is what drives the game. Its causes are as diverse as they are irrelevant.
  19. Additionally, consider the scale of the planets. With well over a hundred thousand km^2 on some planets it would take people a long time to make the whole planet look bad. Plus groups can enforce building rules in their territory if they so choose.
