  1. Only because robots happen to be prevalent in sci-fi, doesn't mean it's a good idea to let players program some without restrictions. Let them do minor tasks, only small and limited things, but let players do the heavy lifting. Otherwise DU will be boring as hell.
  2. Such robots are useful though and make up for annoying gameplay it really depends on what you do with them....And what you're allowed to do with them
  3. They already implement a language in the game which is unique for this kind of scale. Let's just wait and see how this works out. Too much player freedom (programming wise) will just unbalance the game. I personally don't like those ideas because it's against emergent gameplay and the actual need for people. You want to map planets? Hire an explorer You want your mining site guarded? Hire soldiers You want help with mining? Hire someone Yes I perfectly understand your intentions but you forget one MAJOR point here: this is a mmo and there should be people doing all this stuff, not robots. That only makes up for bad gameplay
  4. Well either your multitool can refine small and basic components too or there are basic rrefineries at the arkship
  5. As I wrote: the first printer you have is the multitool, you can build better ones from there
  6. What you described is the opposite of EVEs alt accs. In EVE you have a real advantage in fights and in getting money (PI-alts, Skill injector alts, PVE,...). In your example you only have one advantage: getting more ingame money more easily. Depending on the mechanics (no automatic mining - you have to click every few seconds or something) this advantage is only real, if your other account has nothing to do at all (like sitting in a turret). As soon as your attention is needed, you can't mine and thus don't earn money. Depending on THOSE mechanics (CVC,AVA) and on different aspects like ship crew command structure, communication and so on, you may not even have time to mine with your alt at all. So it's only a decision between - That user pays for 2 accounts (either with DAC or with sub - more money for NQ) to have a small advantage in gathering ingame money at certain times - Ban multiaccs completely. That would ofc reduce emergent gameplay too (it's easier to infiltrate an org with a whole new account than with one of the three from your main - skill training times!) I don't mind if people have two or more accounts in DU (as long as they aren't botting and using one at a time). If they want to invest more money in DU to get a benefit - go ahead.
  7. Well there will be turrets as in "someone needs to sit in there" and turrets/guns as in "you can control that from the cockpit, because it's a small forward gun only"
  8. The first printer you have is your multitool. As jc said at gdc it would suck to build a printer without a basic tool to even build it. And I assume (!!!) That those next refineries, printers and so on are stationary. Maybe we get some mobile ones with less capacity too. You'd need a static core unit for them to work (a base) and provide the materials. And afaik they don't need repairs (but maybe will need maintenance in the future), they only run with energy.
  9. To add something to what Falstaf said: At gdc they said that each turret on a ship requires one player to shoot. So you would be able to fly it, but you certainly can't use it effectively. As this would be against both M in the term "MMOG"
  10. Money is no problem, especially later on when you can pay with in-game money for your sub...and there are programs to handle delay and simultaneous actions in multiple instances on different monitors. But I don't think it'll be a thing in DU. I hope they ban multiboxing (not necessarily the same as multi-accs)

    Sonic Booms.

All of your points may be valid in a scifi game but you're missing two crucial things here: - balance of game mechanics (as I said that involves reaction times. but also many other topics - so all of your points may be rendered useless) - server side problems (rendering, loading,...) yes you can put fancy space engines/warp drives/atmospheric engines on a small fighter. But as the CU of that fighter is limited (because it's small), it only has small wattage output. You can't build a heavily armored, fast, agile, well armed fighter that can operate in space AND the atmosphere AND can use a FTL drive. Not happening. Depending on how much wattage that CU supports, you end up with a fighter being able to fly in the atmosphere and space but is weakly armored and only has one gun. I certainly advocate against being able to fly from one point of a planets surface to the other side in 5min because of gameplay reasons. It's way more immersive and emergent, if people have to think about where to put their defenses and their military to be able to defend vast territories.

    Sonic Booms.

That depends on your ships. Can they even fly in the atmosphere? Does that base have more AA guns than AT? And, space stations aren't necessarily better (range, cone of fire, gut chances)
  13. I'll make sure your banking system is flawless as I will test every aspect of it to scam you Gl with that org and may you not be the one who runs away in the end
  14. I've got hair all over the place but I ain't a furry
  15. There are too many plans there involved. Do as you wish - all I can say on that matter is: I've seen many many groups and people fail in betas because they expected something else. Then the whining started and accusations and it was a mess. Bad PR for those games followed, only because some dudes were too eager with their planning instead of waiting for beta and THEN making plans, based upon mechanics and actual gameplay. Been there, done that - never, ever again.
  16. I'm very interested and involved but I have no plan...or clue. Because to me you can't plan ahead like Falstaf said, and Beta is more fun if you just try out every aspect of the game without bias or regulations from your org. You can't fight what you don't understand..... So yeah, just roll with it, and don't be too disappointed when things don't work out as planned

    Sonic Booms.

I don't think they're neccessary. It would be annoying to constantly hear those booms everywhere. RL comparisons always suck but here we go: And yes, sonic speeds would be definitely too much for DU. That would take away emergent gameplay and response time. If we take Alioth with 100km radius as a model then it's roughly 1/60 the radius of earth. So an appropriate speed would be 340/60 = 5,6m/s for traveling. Since this is boring, it will be something like 50-100 m/s, depending on engines. This leads to traveling times between 3,4hours to 1,7 hours. So if your outpost is on the other side of the planet you'd roughly need 100 - 50 min to reach your target. To me this would make much more sense and gameplay more interesting because: - planets should feel big - players are forced to build outposts to defend vast territories - a response force has an actual meaning (people ready to go anywhere all the time - because every minute counts) - it should be a huge task and would need thousands of players to own a whole planet - not 50 because they can be anywhere within seconds - once space travel is invented and even if a planet is more or less under the control of one org or an alliance, this speed makes sure invasions have a chance. It adds a timer to be able to build a bridgehead
  18. I'm with twerk here In eve you need alts because of how mechanics work and for certain tasks it's just more convenient to have one (WH scouting, mining, industry toon, neutral hauler in Highsec,...) and because of one thing: Even low end machines can run 2 clients at once. Plus the controls in eve support multiboxing, because it's 3rd person with automated orbits, follow and such. I don't see multiboxing being a thing in DU because of first person and the needed hardware. The only benefit you have will involve - Infiltrators - Neutral chars for stuff - mule/lua chars We don't know the EULA yet, so maybe NQ even forbids multiple accounts - who knows
  19. No politics in DU forums - friendly reminder
  20. Well that would be a trail and requires no element (as wanted). Such things will happen (I imagine a city only accessible via a tunnel for example) and as people won't dodge trees all the time they will make trails. But there's no sense in roads (as some suggested). Those two are different things
