  1. I have not done PvP and I dont mine, so, I'm an expert.

It occured to me that the following might be possible.

    1) find and land on the roid.

    2)  Dig down to the precious

    3) make a chamber

    4) Make a static construct in chamber with container connected.

    5) Dismantle your ship and place parts in container.

    6) fill in the tunnel

    7) mine

? dig you way out and assembly your way your ship (from BP) and assemble your ship

    9) Move to Beverley Hills

I scanned 300 tiles on the moon I’m on. We only found t1. The only tiles that had t2 were the 10 territories I already owned….. which seems like too much of a coincidence to me…. Something is badly wrong with the ore distribution if it’s prioritising existing bases.

I spread my scans out with gaps of 4 territories in between. Must’ve covered around 15% of the moon.

Just for balance sake.  I had 17 territories when Demeter hit.  Not a single one of them had anything other than the lowest tier ore possible and none worth an MU.

The problem is not the general distribution of T1 ore but the distribution of T2 ore between claimed and free tiles. If my scans are half-way representative than most tiles with significant amounts of T2 were claimed from the beginning and will remain claimed (not only on Alioth but also on Madis). That means that the algorithm is not completely random but either dependend on the original ore distribution or (even worse) on the ownership of tiles. This is another bad news for new players. They will need to buy T2+ ores from established players until they can compete with them in PvP space (that means most probably never).

I dont have any scans for Alioth.  I went straight to Symeon and Ion.  Its a similar situation with T4 & T5 ore on the outer planets.  I did over 130 scans.  As far as I can tell all the peak T4 & T5 sites were gone within a few days.  I settled for a 1 T4 and 1 T5 site that were a couple of hex away from the already claimed peak (and adjacent's).  I note that on Symeon the T4 hex I claimed is now completely surrounded by claims.  I guess every scrap of T4 in that location is now claimed.  This wont really matter to new players but those who reach midpoint may simply not have access to any T4 or T5 ore.   The only way I can see around this issue is if the ore distribution changes over time.  So, for example after 12 months the coal runs out but it reveals chromite which was previously shielded from scans by the coal.  Likewise a T5 or might decrease/disappear or increase over time.  I'm not sure what BS lore reason we could find for it but it would prevent all the higher tier ore being locked up.

A random event that might even create some game play ..... asteroids crash into planets, leaving deposits of random ore.  These hex can be claimed and mined with MU as usual.  Maybe even the asteroids can be tracked ahead of time and their possible crash location calculated?

  4. I have airbrakes inside my ships.  I think the airbrakes look bulky and, well awful.  If they are going to require all these elements on the outside wont all ships look ugly and basically the same.  A blob completely covered in elements.

I think it needs to be done another way.  For example you have one airbrake but you pay to increase its power.  Its weight etc should also increase.  I think so long as you have the weight, fuel, etc penalties it should be ok?  I just want ships that look good.

  5. Some of this should be sorted with an energy system (which I believe was originally intended?), if and when it comes.  So, a certain size core can handle such and such amount of power.  Maybe you could put an XL on a S core but that would max the core and nothing else would run, eg, no shield or guns etc.

That said it makes sense for Haulers to have big engines.  I mean their sole purpose is to move heavy stuff as fast as possible.

  6. I dont have much quanta so I, like many others it seems have been selling ore.  I tried selling refined metals but they are even harder to sell.

There is a shortage of buyers so I have had to sell ore to buyers.  I decided it was time to do some math.

I have 4 hex currently producing T2 and T3 ore.

My estimated income per week is 12.5 mil less tax is 8.5 mil.  I'm not going to count calibration ore as it should roughly offset the MU that randomly turn themselves off.

After tax of 4 mil I'm left with 8.5 mil.  I have claimed a hex with a small amount of T4 and another with some T5 (currently HQ).

So, my next purchase will be a Rare MU for 23 mil.  So, thats 3 weeks away.  Income should then rise by 4.5 mil allowing for tax.  So total 13 mil.

My next purchase after that will be an Exotic MU .  Thats 64 mil.  So, another 5 weeks.

Then I'll be set.  So, this is based on current prices.  Mu prices might drop but so might ore prices.

The thing is.  I will not be purchasing anything from anybody (other than 2 MU) for the next 8 weeks at least.

If, many other players are like me, then, thats a long time with little economic activity.

Its also maybe going to be pretty boring, unfortunately.

The last mail I got was Project Update #53. All it says is

"In the coming months, we plan to roll out a big mining update (including automated mining units), new challenges and missions, abandoned construct salvaging, and lots of improvements to existing features that our community has requested."

together with a reference to the roadmap. That doesn't suggest that you might lose your stuff if you don't come back.

Isn't the territory already lost when you get this mail? Than all you can do is salvaging your own static constructs.

As far as I am aware this is the reason why we have to wait 2 weeks before we get the hex.  When we claim the hex, the owner is sent an email that if they dont do anything we will take their stuff.

That, and will take bets on it, I am sure they have.

I dont get it.  If they were going to wipe (which up until now I thought they would), why would they bother protecting players stuff its its just going to be wiped anyway.  To me, there actions are saying they have decided not to wipe.  Then again, give them a week and they could change their mind again.

  9. 1 hour ago, Maxim Kammerer said:

If that would have been the plan than they would have included a glaring warning into the last Project Update mail. All NQ did before and after Demeter reather looks like they have no plan at all.

didnt warnings go out?  I thought they were supposed to get emails, at least once somebody made a territory claim.

Aphelia missions are generated by the game and are only visible to you. The fact that NQ removed the Alts does not change the principle of the missions. All players have the same number of mission choices going to the same destinations :) Maybe NQ has added some extra missions but there hasn't been any real change on it.

Thank you.  I did not realise that.  I thought we all drew from the same pool.

  11. If I understand this correctly:

NQ gambled that they could threaten non playing (paying) players that if they didnt come back they would lose everything.

The gamble failed as only a few came back.

So NQ said OK, you called our bluff and they threw in their hand.

So, they are going to let people keep their stuff in the hopes they come back when the game gets out of alpha.

This is also the strongest indication that there will not be a full wipe when we leave alpha.  Even though I think its probably essential for the game.

It also shows that NQ really has no plan that looks further than a week ahead.

Yesterday, out of 21 machines calibrated 9 failed to give rocks with an Invalid Destination error. That's 70k ore lost in one day.

I've been tracking this for a few days now, and updating a ticket with the stats, and it's regularly at least 1/3 of machines have this error every day.

On top of that, the Cone tool, which seems to be the most reliable way of zeroing in on the hotspot, is often bugged and the hotspot is actually on the opposite side of the hex.

    See screenshots for examples.

So they got rid of manual mining, which I used to enjoy, to replace it with a frustrating mini-game that half the time just doesn't work.

Am I just unlucky, or other ppl seeing the same bugs?

    2021-12-07 Invalid Destination.jpg

The tools are poorly explained in the game.  The cone tool does not indicate a location for the entire hex.  It only indicates the warmest location within the circle you see before you place it.

This video from that incredibly talented and good looking youtuber named Underhook (Reginald Esq)  might help you.

What prevents you from doing missions before Demeter?

Before Demeter (I came back 2 weeks before) every day I looked for missions but they were all awful.  Either they were way more weight than I could carry or they were very small Alioth to Alioth missions that cost more in fuel than they paid.  After Demeter I can every day find at least one mission going my way that pays good.  For example I'm on Thades and going to Ion.  Yep, theres a mission I can do.  Previously zero.

Make the missions usable again with VR.
Players with many ALTS didn't mind the change anyway and players who flown these missions for many other players are the only ones who have disadvantages as a result. Together with taxes, this change makes absolutely no sense.
Currently the game only consists of calibrating the mining units and flying mission stations to accept missions and give them back.. The gamestyle isnt really funny anymore.

I dont have any alts, I can finally get missions.  So, for me its much better than before.

  15. Just calibrated a unit in VR and went to harvest the ore.

    1)  the calibration ore was not there.

    2)  All rocks one the  tile says "no target found"

I read the patch notes after this patch came out yesterday.  As far as I can remember, no mention of, no harvest tool for VR, no harvest ore respawn (no confirmed by NQ) on sanctuary.

Pretty important changes that are not mentioned in the patch notes.

    EDIT.

Ok, so I really have to learn to wait 24 hours before complaining :)

After 15 min I suddenly got the ability to harvest surface ore again, so it appears the server may have been 15 mins out of sync (catching up).  Anyway I went to where the calibration ore was supposed to be and ....... it still wasnt there and then I could not harvest again.. LOL  Maybe reloading will fix it

    EDIT.

Relogging fixed the harvest issue but my calibration ore was lost to the nether

  16. Roustabout, I would value your opinion on the following:

Calibration skills have turned out to be, not that important (especially for players with 1 character).  In VR where our character has no skills it is still possible to get 100% calibration after the 2nd calibration.  It also seems impossible for a skilled player to calibrate to 100% on the 1st calibration so, save the points for something else.

If anybody isnt sure what I'm going on about I made a video which discusses it here.  Its also a bit about setting up small mining operations.

They added a limit to the number of constructs that you can see at one time.  It's in the graphics options, and i think it was set to 70 by default.  If there are more then 70 then it only loads the constructs that are closest to you.

70 is pretty low, but i guess that's probably good for people entering the game for the first time with a low end computer.  I turned it up to 200, i think it went up to 1 or 2 thousand.

Thanks, thats could be why.  I left mine at 70 because even with an i9  market performance isnt the best.

Moons are great, at least if you use Space-Only ships. Who wants to go to the overpopulated planets?

OK, So, you are based on a moon?

I can see a certain appeal.  If we were not allowed to have space stations I might have considered it.
