  1. We have a player run economy. Players or an org could offer insurance. Or OP you could start the insurance company yourself. Go for it. If your implying that there should be a AI/NPC insurance company then its a big no from me.
  2. I guess because its the quickest and easiest way to make money when we 1st start and it requires no cash up front. Also because I think a lot of players are worried about premium ore's running out, so, there is a rush on. Also its hard to compete in manufacture until we get our skills up and so its pretty much essential to mine our own ores for our manufacture to keep the cost low enough. Maybe I'm wrong? Just how it seems to me at present. I actually don't like mining. I enjoy ship building and I hope PvP.
  3. Did I say you shouldn't be able to lose anything. If I did I didn't mean it. Some loss if fine but If I have to spend 100 hours mining for every 10 mins of PvP, that would suck. To get good at PvP you have to lose ships. If losses are too expensive people wont participate and only the glitchers, exploiters and cheaters will be able to afford to do PvP and they will end up really good at it because they can afford to lose ships.
  4. So OP from your post am I to understand that DU currently suffers from a lack of players? I was unaware of this. Well, if the game is going to die from a lack of players then I guess they have to do something or we will have nothing to play anyway. I dont think they will wipe. Some players have done an extraordinary amount of work. As far as the illicit gains go, well, yes thats very annoying. Still I'm sure they know (or are incompetent if they don't) who has been glitching, exploiting (cheating). They could if they have the balls, impose a penalty on the offenders. Say..... remove half their skill points or remove all their assets and cash.
  5. Still does it, but thanks anyway
  6. On the subject of ship building. I am having trouble. When I have angled walls meeting the voxels seem to apply smoothing automatically when I dont want it. It reminds me of microsoft clippy. Is there a way to turn off this auto smoothing or do I just have to undo the redo 10 times until I'm lucky and get no smoothing.
  7. My observation thus far is. Hover engines (especially if you have multiple) seem to automatically adjust the amount of thrust they provide depending on the angle of your ship to the ground and the weight distribution on your ship. Boosters seem to provide a similar amount of thrust all the time. So, if say the back is heavier then the ship will tend to tilt back at which point the boosters are now providing reverse thrust.
  8. I'm a noob in DU. Just wondering if a viable mechanic might be. A hex is claimed. Any ship on that claimed tile is impounded and appears at the impound dock at the nearest market. The impounded ship is released to the owner after a small fine is paid.
  9. The definition of Player v's Player is probably something like. "2 or more players compete in competition against each other". There are PvP games that are not resource sinks. If in doubt, please consider looking up the word "definition" in a dictionary.
  10. As others have mentioned Verticle boosters only work close to the ground like hover engines. With no cargo a decent ship should be able to go pretty much straight up and out. 2 things 1) pilot skills (talents) can make a lot of difference. So, its possible the ship was made by somebody with max skills but it does not pass the mustard for a noob. 2) It might have something wrong with it. Like and engine might not be connected to a fuel tank or something. I would suggest you get on the support chat in game. People are often very helpful and you might find somebody will meet up with you and take a look at you ship and probably fix it up for you.
  11. The main thing I want to do in this game is PvP. If the game needs a resource sink, please dont make it PVP. Let something else be your resource sink. If PvP becomes too expensive then average players will simply avoid PvP because they cant afford to participate.
  12. Thanks for your advice. I have already setup my main base on Alioth and have just built a territory scanner, although it took me about a week to build it. I am currently making the parts for a space fairing ship that I hope will be capable of lifting about 500t from Alioth. I intend on using that ship to travel to the planets claiming a territory on each and mine a few areas. I am primarily interested in Pvp and ship building. Not keen on mining but it seems to be a necessary evil early on
  13. Thanks you so much. So, I can have one on each planet for free, thats awesome, I thought I would never be able to afford to do that.
  14. I have searched the forum and Google for the answer but no luck. I assume that means I'm missing the answer somewhere really obvious So, we know that our 1st Sanctuary TCU (territory control unit) is free. 2nd TCU is purchased from the market and them we we get charged a tax when we plant it in a territory. Thats right isnt it? Anyway I didnt check to see how much it cost when I planted it. Someone on the support channel said that the tax quadruples with each unit. Is that correct? Unfortunately since I dont know what the tax on the 1st one was I dont know what the subsequent ones will be. Can anybody verify the above and or provide the price for the 2nd unit. On a side note, where are people getting their information from, the WIKI seems abandoned.
  15. What an interesting thread. I can sort of see both sides here. However, I think there is a probable solution. The pirate concerned has to go into PvP space to strip or rebuild the ships. Either hunt him down (every single time) or pay a PvP clan to do it for you. Isn't this an opportunity for game play?
  16. Just to drive home my point that this should be fixed. Most of us probably know Chromium is heavy 7.19kg/L Yes its one of the ones where its mass is far greater than the mass of all its inputs (if we count the iron by product its even worse). The ore Chromite is just 4.54kg/L It takes 65L of Chromite to make 45L of Chromium so that's just under 70% of the volume become the pure. Because this is a heavy product. Transport (especially in atmo is an important consideration) Lets say we have a big ship and can carry 10t 10t of Chromium is 1390L 10t of Chromite is 2200L When we refine 2200L of Chromite we get 1540L of Chromium. Yes thats right this travisty of physics means that you transport more Chromium in raw for than when its refined not only that but for the one shipment you will also get the 250L of iron by product.
  17. So, I was flying (in atmo) back to base with a full load of Hematite. Saw that the server was going to shut down. Decided to risk making it back because the ground was to mountainous to risk another take off. When the server shut down I was on my landing approach. When I came back online after the server restart my sip was exactly where I was in mid air. Only it was stationary (protected) which I thought was good until ....... I got into the pilot seat and hit full throttle ..... but I had no air speed so I was dropping like a stone. By the time I hit the brakes it was too late .... hello ground... Boom Anyway, 10 mins is not enough notice for a server restart.
  18. I have designed a useful ship. Am I able to make blueprints to sell? and maybe one to keep incase I lose the ship I see youtubers buying blueprints from other players but I cant find anything on how to create one.
  19. I was actually surprised how well the game ran on my PC. I saw video's of people with high end machines like yours with the game running poorly. I have the settings down but from what I can see it runs better than a lot of far more expensive up to date systems (might just be the settings). Anyway, overclocking is a personal thing but IMO if you have gone to the trouble of water cooling and you have purchased quality components then you might want to consider over clocking for free performance. This game has a heavy dependence on CPU. You should be safe with a 30% overclock. For reference, my system is 5 years old. i5 overclocked to 4.6ghz, 980ti, 16gb ram, custom water cooled. Anyway, good luck. Hopefully future optimizations will improve performance.
  20. I'm Pretty new so dont take what I say as gospel. As far as I can tell its more of a scale than a limit. For example: We may have a heavy load and it will still fly but we might need a big flat area to build up enough speed to generate lift without hitting anything. So, in this case if we land in a hilly area we might not be able to take off. For this reason the best method seems to be .......... try it and see Test: So, if you can link to a container near you ship (a container than has a lot of ore). Put more and more weight in and see how much weight it will carry with you still being comfortable that you wont crash .
  21. I did. I'll try again. Thanks Cleared cache again, and its all fixednow. Thanks
  22. I dont know if I was the only one affected negatively by todays update. I was out on a mining trip in a ship I just built. I mined 30K ton. After the update I decided to head back. My ship wouldnt move. Too much weight. Fair enough, so, I started removing cargo. Turns out I was only able to take off after I had removed the entire cargo. I had to throw it all away. It seems that the update turned my 7.5g thrust into 3.5g thrust. I arrive back at my base ... only ..... no I didnt because its gone. I built an underground base (yes I know, a mistake). I hope I can dig and find all my stuff if its still there. Its going to take a long time to dig it out and move all that big machinery. Arghhhhhh
  23. In the case of Sodium and Calcium it is indeed better to process the ore 1st as the final product has less total mass than the starting mass. However, Chromium and Copper both have more total mass than the sum of all their inputs with even when we account for throwing away the by products. So, refining them actually incurs a penalty for transport. Its got to be an oversight as it only applies to half the minerals. As far as compacting the ore increasing weight. That makes sense in a n identical volume. Same volume but more mass so its heavier. But what we have here makes no sense. I compact 2 kg of milk and get 4kg of cheese, where does the extra come from.
