    I expect:

0.24 in a 3-4 weeks .. no mission in that patch yet, that may come later

next "big patch" end of June, expected to be the PVP revamp

followed by the "TW patch" in September and "release" in December

No missions? Isnt .24 all about missions? :v

  2. What if flying wasn't as accessible/effective as it is now?

I've had this thought because in the last 15 years I've played a lot of open world games, wow, minecraft, space engineers, rust, arma2 and 3 and a lot of dayz, mostly origins, and all of this games have one thing in common: flying is a huge game changer. It kills random encounters and it kills exploration/immersion, you no longer live inside the world, you only see it as a background as you're travelling from point a to point b.

So again, what if flying (on planets) wasn't as meta as it is today?

What if our ability to lift weight was dramatically reduced?

Ground transport might become a thing, I'm not asking for wheels ofc (I'm perfectly aware how much Clang loves wheels), we have hovers, let's use them. Building roads/bridges/tunnels might be the one input that makes ppl work together. You would feel the world alive as you pass through the numerous factories built near the highway connecting two markets.

Even PvP-wise it makes sense to give ground vehicles a role once territory warfare comes.

What do you think? I'm not really into turning DU into euro truck simulator but honestly flying often makes things too easy and it kills a lot of experiences.

Can you actually land on planets and build bases there  in SB?

Can you freeform design constructs in SB?

I'd say SB is more a souped up version of Space Engineers than it is even close to DU outside of having space ships. SB is also far more PVP centric which DU is more about building communities and nations/empires

DU has so many missing links that it's really just a collection of features stuck in a sandbox without any real relation to each other. And I agree that it feels like NQ pretty much thinks that if they do that, the players will just go and glue it all together and that this not not something they need to do.

DU pretends to be "EVE Next" in many ways but only on he surface, all of the intricate connections that go on behind the scenes are not there which is why nothing really works as well.

There's nothing wrong in saying that DU's closest relative is Space Engineers, if we pretend to be unaware of JC vision and look at what the game is now then it's nothing more than SE. DU has clearly more features than SE (persistent universe, voxel editor, markets, talents) but there's still something missing like asteroids or constructs control panel (being forced to use LUA for me is pita, I'd love to have an easy interface to set up my ships like in SE).

The truth is... if space engineers had a persistent universe we'll probably be all playing there.

Edit: I missed a few updates on SE, it has markets, contracts (missions), no safe zones, shield generators to protect bases...

It just lacks a persistent universe :s

That is explicitly in the lore - that we don't have Aphelia's tech. AFAIK, Aphelia also doesn't feel she need to explain why.

Also, if I remember correctly, the launcher says something like "your brain is working at 12%", we might assume that we don't actually train talents, we unlock memories. At some point someone will remember how to build a market xD

yes daddy please arrest me, i'm game for that sort of RP. ?‍♂️

I'm fine getting warnings or bans for my shitty attitude, but at least my BS wasn't directed at a specific person.

NQ can handle a few "fuck yous", they've earned 'em.

They'll let some exploits go without any response -- giving some players a massive advantage and sending a very clear message: if you don't use the exploit, someone else will, and they likely won't face a penalty.

following the rules for the sake of following rules is for suckers -- if NQ doesn't want to enforce the rules or fix the same bugs they've already "fixed" once, it should be the lawless free-for-all crapfest they want it to be.

i'm sure there were people that saw the schematic price bug and did the honest thing -- reporting it and not taking advantage. what did that get them? nothing but regret. they effectively punished the honest and rewarded exploiters.

if NQ wants to make something "not allowed", they should actually do that by fixing the game (again) or have a consistent policy for dealing with exploits.

Why bother for something that won't make any difference... after the wipe. I mean this attitude of no intervention speaks for itself.

Lol and you can probably only train skills on 1 at a time or you need to purchase another sub.

Copy/Paste is strong in this one.

Well considering how many ppl pay multiple accounts just for talents I'd say they'll never let us train on 3 alts all together.

Yup - There are several "Direct Action" -type things we could do for demonstrating the issue.

How ever it is also so easy to get banned if such actions are done.

Well you could disguise it as an event: "the invasion of market X", 1 mothership and dozens of little ships, like a sovereign from mass effect (super hard to build tho) and oculus drones, or the "tet" from Oblivion and again drones :v

I just logged in to the PTS and many of the holes / corrupted areas on our constructs in Live are also holes / corrupted on PTS, even though the PTS snapshot is from weeks (possibly months) ago.

Strange that we see voxels reverting to old versions of constructs on Live the same week they launch an old snapshot of the game on the PTS...

    [Stranger things theme intensifies]

Log a ticket and keep us in the loop as NQ has the obligation to act on this one and do so quickly as they have officially tagged this kind of action as forbidden..

It will be interesting to see how they are going to deal with this one..

Main concern should be finding how they did it. Ffs this is not rust, im not here to log in and find myself naked on a shore.

  10. I don't think you can protect an element from impact damage. Main reason is because impact damage is only applied to elements, so voxels can't mitigate/absorb it. Second reason is that imho (but it's just a guess based on my observations) the game doesn't really care about which elements were caught in an impact, it start from there for sure but it keeps on going on until the damage has been fully applied. So if you suffer a damage higher than the overall hp of your ship (all element's hp combined) then your ship goes full red.

Space engineers worked differently as far as I can remember, there was no way that the back of your ship suffered damage from a frontal collision.

About how damage is calculated: I don't know, but elements can withstand a certain degree of damage thanks to their hp, but as you add voxels and cargo (which only increase mass and doesn't give you more hp in case of an impact) then your max "safe" speed goes down if you want to be able to withstand an impact. So heavier ships (expecially bigger and loaded) are less likely to survive a crash even at lower speed.

Simple minded response from a simple minded person.  I actually do like star wars, tho I prefer Star Trek TNG (season 2-5 were amazing to me and quintessial Star Trek, tho Im sure its different for everyone since there is so much Star trek content out there to choose from).  Im going to try to get down to your intelligence level so I can make you understand, though it wont be easy.

Why was the Star Wars event "stupid"?  Because of how the game currently is, and because how they went about hosting it, and how it doesn't help further the lore and game experience of DU.  Majority of star wars ships cant stand up to any battle, even from other "role playing pvp ships".  There are no "shields" or other mechanics, only voxels and elements. Those ships die in 1-2 shots.  Fights that go that fast are rarely fun.  You need a little time to actually maneuver, fire your weapons, do some dmg, stuff like that.  So that if you are on the losing end you can be like "well that was fun!!".

Second, you are hosting it in a game where the pvp zone is 100% open to anyone who has access to the server.  And you are posting public  coordinates for weeks ahead of time.  What did you fucking expect?  The people hosting this event dont dictacte who can and come be in an area of space, or pvp space in this instance.  That is unless you have the capabilities to shoot them down. Which they didn't.  So BOO showed up and shot at some ships.  Its their right to do so.  They are playing DUAL universe, and are paying memebers.  They are also representing the game, and wanting to be pirates in the game of dual universe, not pretending to be some other IP.

The actual health and sustainability of DU will not, and never will, hinge on a few fringe events held by LARPers wanting to fantasize about some other sc-fi franchise.  And there are many better games that are suited for roleplaying in that created universe.  DU in its current form just showed you its not a good candidate for that type of shit.   If DU is to ever compete with other sci-fi mmo's its better served creating its own lore, and real events surrounding the game (maybe someone trying to take over an outer planet, attempting to enforce  their rules and regulate trade on that planet ) and let the players react to it.  (Probably why EvE online has been around 20 years.  It creates its own lore and own stories.  It doesn't have to STEAL shit).

Lasty, ask yourself this.  Is this star wars event, or anything similar using someone else's IP, really the FUTURE of DU?  Like, is that how JC and NQ will promote their game.  "Hey guys, its 2023 and here we are again for our monthly Star Wars pvp event, where it will teleport you to an area and let you choose which side to fight for, rebels or empire!!"   No.  And it wont "get new people into PVP"  at all.  Because those pvp ships dont work in the current meta (we all know pvp is broken and needs more love).  What will get new people into pvp is a very cool and dynamic enviroment to pew in., And reasons to pew pew.  Along with mechanics that make XS and S cores ACTUALLY viable in the meta (think EvE online how even the smallest frigates provide very real pvp roles that are vital to certain fleets).  THOSE MECHANICS are what will further the game, and make pvp fun, and videos show casing that will draw even more people in.  Especially when the cost of fielding a ship goes down significantly so that a loss or two doesn't hurt you.

If DU actually succeeds as a game, and makes it to release, This stupid star wars event will be forgotten.  And its already proven by BOO showing up, and all the cry babies that poured salt over it,  that it generates way more interest and things to talk about.  And shows how open world PvP is the one true way, and that letting the players use ingame tools, and ships to shape the ingame world is vastly superior than any stolen IP event.

You're basically showing up at an halloween party telling everyone is a retard for wearing costumes. If you don't like themed parties then just don't join one. If you can't stand ppl building whatever the hell they want then I suggest you to leave this game couse the problem is yours, not theirs.

  12. Factions could have been a thing if done properly, like 3 home planets (Alioth, Thades and Madis), you get to choose where to start from and you get benefits only on your own planet, like the safe zone being limited to "natives".

Beside that I still think industry should be somehow limited, I mean being able to produce anything is counter productive if they aim at cooperation, maybe splitting the industry talent tree into branches (assembly, metalwork, refinery, etc) and giving us only 1 choice could help. Ofc ppl will use alts to avoid this but they'll still be a minority.

For anyone who played before 0.23, schematics are going to feel like a harsh reality.

But in terms of the first few days, it's really not any harder for a new player to get into the game.

Let's say the goal is to build a ship that can actually haul some ore.  So you're going to need a few S sized containers, and some M sized parts at least, that can't be made in the Nanocrafter.

Before 0.23 the easiest thing to do was mine a bunch of ore, and build a little factory.  The problem, once you've got your small hauler built, you also have a factory ready to produce ten more.  But no one to buy them, because everyone else has a little factory too.

Now, still, all you need to do is go out and mine a bunch of ore.  Then sell it, and buy some parts to build a ship.

0.23 didn't make it harder to build a ship, it just made it harder to build a ship factory.  This is what JC was talking about with his iphone analogy.

If your goal was to build a ship factory, the game got a lot harder.  But if your goal is for that ship factory to have a purpose, then 0.23 was a step in that direction.

Imho being stuck grinding at the very beginning of the game is the worst possible start a game could offer.

Before .23 you could at least feel a bit of progression by building a couple of machines to ease crafting, I remember spending my daily quantas on machines rather than on piloting elements because the nanopack was so painfully slow that I couldn't really stand it. Having the starter xs core filled with machines was actually satisfying and that got me hooked. How many ppl are now satisfied after days of mindless mining?

  14. It has been said a million times already, but without specialization you can't really have cooperation and a long lasting game.

I ofc love that I can be a pilot, a miner, an industrialist and a builder, but it's honestly counter productive for the game longevity becouse first I only need myself, and second I can achieve everything in a relatively small amount of time (for a solo ofc). I find it weird that I can potentially have engame items this early into the game, the path from the basic speeder to an hauler capable of carrying kilotons it's really too short, to make a comparison imagine if we could make a raid of 300ppl and go naxx 1 month into wow vanilla.

We probably need more dependencies from talents (eg you can't use XL space engines until you get space engines lvl 5) and a separate tech tree with researchs for individual components, I might specialize in metallurgy and make screws and pipes, but I need you couse you are specialized in making alloys, and you need him because he knows how to refine ores, and so on.

  15. One thing that concerns me about asteroids is that currently we can't detect them with radars, so having a space full of them would likely be a nightmare to explore, unless you want to roam in space at 1000km/h.

We might need to see them with radars or they might give us some kind of sonar like the one in subnautica (which would also be helpful in case of a gas giant with, ehrm, gas everywhere xD).

  16. I don't know your values, with mines I get 3,867Mn if I add flat thrust first and handlig later, and 3,870Mn if I add handling first. These numbers are very close to each other so it's hard to tell which come first, if handling or +thrust, but in the end I guess the helper is probably rounding from ~3,87 to 3,85.

    You mean, they didn't?
it's amazing just how much like Empyrion DU is. Truly.
Heck if I know who copied of who, but someone did. It's hard to justify that many system design overlaps otherwise.
Now if only DU "developed" similar power and CPU constraints, a lot of the issues would simply go away.
    Fingers crossed.

As far as I can remember empyrion does have a tech tree, it's not like you unlock technologies by purchasing schematics from bots.
