  1. Well, it could possible to make a forum section for this :)

We can do it as public (every visitor can see it), private (every registered user can see it) or it could be part of the upcoming Alpha Team section (only Alpha Team members can see it). Just let me know what you prefer.

Edit: I saw already 2 topics in "General Discussion":

    https://board.dualthegame.com/index.php?/topic/385-the-alioth-museum-of-art/

    https://board.dualthegame.com/index.php?/topic/386-comments-and-critiques-art/

To keep this topics in this section can be a double edged sword:

    - It can give more visibility to these topics.

    - It can also "drown" them under many new topics.

    Best Regards,

    Nyzaltar.

I don't see any reason to make it Alpha Team restricted. Public would work just fine.

  2.

@Ellegos : It doesn't effect me so your opinion isn't valid? That's pretty much where you're getting at.
Looking good is part of the game... you know the role playing part.

Because my opinion doesn't agree with yours regarding vanity items, it invalidates it? There's a reason they're calling opinions. Differing perspectives. Don't harp to people declaring your opinion as just that, an opinion, and then dismiss someone else's differing perspective as simply "invalidating" yours because they don't agree.

I understand where you're coming from on the cash shop, don't get me wrong, but having everything on a cash shop free to those who subscribe, invalidate it's purpose entirely. Why? Because in order to even access the game, you have to be a paying subscriber. This restricts cash shop usage to only those who are subscribed, which pretty much would make the cash shop moot if all of it was free... to paying subscribers.

Not trying to be a dick here, and I apologize if it seems that way.

  3. When will people learn that cosmetic = gameplay

I'm an armor horder, that means I actually spend time in game finding nice pieces of armor even tho the stats are crap.

Its like a minigame. and i'm not the only person who does this.

Every forum its the same discussion, cash shop is fine as long as its only cosmetic and doesn't effect gameplay.

But it does effect it. A lot!

I don't see anything wrong with the above system apart from having a cash shop added to this. For those of us who will pay a sub that's just being greedy.

The only fair solution to this would be that the Cash shop is completely free for the people paying a sub.

Also +1 for calling it C.R.E.D.D.  and not creed :D

Have you seen my new cowboy hat? Doesn't really do anything, but it makes me look like Clint Eastwood.

No, "cosmetic items" do not affect "gameplay". If you want to be a "hoarder" that's between you and your wallet. Does it affect me? Nope. Not one bit.

I'm also all for a cash shop on top of the pay-to-play model if it's purely cosmetic. Because, again. It does nothing to me, or you, or anyone else if they don't have that special glam item. If you're that worried about looking fabulous, go to a mall.

  4. @Hylios, it's not selfish. You represent a demographic of potential customers who can and do put in a lot of hours of gaming. Likewise I represent a demographic who don't have that much spare time.

30-40 hours of gameplay is the minimum I would expect from a game that cost ?40/?50/$60 at launch but those are also flexible hours. I can play those hours in two days, or in two years depending on the time I have available, and I can always revisit the game whenever I like at any time in the future.

Paying ?20/?25/$28 a month for a game that you only get to play for about 20 hours is not justifiable when you're on a tight budget and have to balance work, family and personal time.

And yet, it probably is a very fair price for someone like Hylios who plays nearly 200 hours a month.

So the more I think about it the more I think tariffs are the way to go. Here's an example pricing model.

    ?20/?25/$28 - 1 month unlimited access

?10/?12.50/$14 - 1 month access up to 50 hours playing time

?5/?6.25/$7 - 1 month access up to 20 hours playing time

Playing time top ups at ?0.50/?0.63/$0.70 per hour for if you run out before the end of the month.

You could argue that you may find you get more customers this way as people who would not or could not subscribe at ?20/month for whatever reason - be it time or money availability or a combination of both - may subscribe at ?5/month.

Pretty good idea if you ask me.

  5. I see what you're saying. But DU doesn't really have a "style" from what I've seen. The only example of a ship from Earth is the Arkship. To that end, we'll all end up using

our own styles, and all emerging governments and corporations may have a style. Think of it like any 4X sci-fi game as if every race were seeded from one a long time ago

and evolved into something else entirely.

    Well said.

I'd love to go from sector to sector, being exposed to different player "styles". One place your in a steampunk area, the next a cyberpunk Bladerunner style. No need to limit player creativity because the developers have their own vision of what should and shouldn't be. If they did that, it would sort of go against everything they have been saying to this day.

  6. I think that copyright laws are a little odd in this area. Since those constructs are produced by a private player, I don't think legal action can be taken. From my

understanding, copyright laws only take effect when someone is trying to make a profit off of a copyrighted thing. Since no one here is making real money from the ships,

and since the DU devs didn't make it and use it to sell the game, I don't think there'll be an issue.

    This.

I could pull up the laws on it, but don't have the time to go digging for it right now. But yes, essentially you can build anything you want worry free. If you intend to sell said "thing" for real profit, then you may have a few lawyers waving their finger at you. Since NQ are simply providing the tools, even if a player tried to sell their own "thing" for a real profit, it still wouldn't affect the NQ team too much. At most, they'd get an upset letter and that's about it. Legally though, they may be required to ban the player, but I don't know beyond that.

    TL;DR - Don't worry about it.

  7. The team hasn't made the final decision on this subject yet.

But I will bring this topic to the Devs' attention :)

Sidenote: if we succeed in avoiding to have activies usually boring and nearly automated in MMO (like mining, for example ;)) not boring in Dual Universe, this should naturally limit Multiboxing.

    Best Regards,

    Nyzaltar.

Well, I'm certainly happy to see we're on the same page in this regard! Keep us posted!

  8. If a game requires you to have multiple accounts to be self sufficient in most tasks with the game, then the game itself has failed.

This is something I have always hated about Eve. That said, the type of game that Eve is encourages having multiple accounts to do said tasks. It's just the nature of what it evolved in to (and many other games).

I still do not agree with it, but it is what it is. NQ are taking several ideas from Eve Online with developing Dual Universe, so this account necessity may be a thing as well here, who knows. Will certainly need a response from Nyz to give us an answer.

  9. ye, you're right, maybe i was a bit harsh with my comment.

But i think the time spent learning lua without practical application is far higher then if u actually learn it while using it ingame(let alone having the motivation), making the whole learning process take less time and vastly more effective.

And i tend to value actions by their time-effectiveness^^

I understand buddy, just a matter of differing perspectives. :P

  10. It would be a waste to learn it now anyways, when you can later learn it step by step ingame while instantly seeing your progress.

Or... learn the concepts now and then be one step ahead?

Learning LUA scripting now is not a waste of time. You learn from both. If someone wants to go out of their way to learn about now, it only gives them another tool on their belt to work with when he/she actually applies themselves in DU. While you're busy trying to teach yourself the core basics, someone else who went out of their way to learn/understand it ahead of time will merely be a few steps ahead of you. No harm in that.

That said, do I care to learn it now? No, not really. I don't even have any desire to learn it either. So if so and so wants to learn it now, and start pushing out scripts for everyone else to buy when the game releases, by all means, be my guest.

Point is, don't discourage the effort. Unless there is a valid reason presented by NQ to warn against doing such (which there isn't, and probably won't be) then knock yourself out.

  11. Hi Hylios,

Yes, it's still a thing. But before starting these news, we will put in place a forum section dedicated to the Alpha Team.

This will take place at the same time as we will release the new website. I can't give you a precise date yet, but you can expect in the coming months.

    Best Regards,

    Nyzaltar.

    New website?

    My face right now.

  12. I'm glad NQ seems to be approaching this from the angle of letting players establish the market, and not the other way around. A functioning economy driven by players can mean a very long lasting system that requires minimal effort from the developers to maintain, and remain fairly autonomous.

Thanks for the information as always Nyz! I'll dissect this stuff later today when I get off work.

  13. It's the internet. It's going to happen.

And once NQ launch their crowd funding campaign, it'll get even worse. It is what it is.

No reason to get angry over it, not like their comments mean anything. Either the game will be, or not. The final product will be whatever NQ wants to do with it. Neither me, you, or anyone else really has any say over that. So just ignore the naysayers.
