  1. i'd like to have a quote for that, because i highly doubt that they will and thus wouldn't have claimed something like that.
  2. the only thing it influences is the industry needed to provide for the food, it doesnt influence any other gameplay element, thus it only creates work around itself, which is never a good thing in mmorpgs. With that argument you could also include a need to take a dump, because it also would create its own industry, or the requirement to do regulary maintenance on all structures etc. etc. But in the end its just additional effort without adding anything else to the game except for the means to sustain itself.
  3. Second button top left, "remove format"
  4. i'd suggest reading the posts in the thread you're answering to
  5. 1) the variety of ships comes with the advantages and disadvantages of the designs as well as the improvements. It would be pretty annoying if every ship woul dhave to be built by hand. 2) believe me, building the same ship over and over would be much more boring for builders^^ 3) there is a lot of preparation for wars, gathering ressources, loading ammonition and fuel, manning the freshly printed ships etc. having an army of people build the same ships for a week doesn't really add athmosphere, will most likely make wars less likely and more boring because most builders wouldn't want to be stuck with the same thing. 4) you can only rebuild ur fleet as long as you have ressources and energy, reparing not to heavily damaged ships is probably far more ressource-friendly, thus still the prefered way. 5) ofc ressources play a very important part in wars, that's always the case. But at the same time the quality of the tech and ship-designs can influence a lot too. Its pretty realistic this way. I dunno if you would like to be someone who is stuck within the factory of your guild building the same ships for weeks just to prepare a war. If you are then i'm sure you're one of very very few who would do that, if you aren't then you shouldn't force other people to have to do it Most builders get their enjoyment by designing and building something new, not by dozens recreations of the same stuff.
  6. OTA welcomes its second member alexanders, at the same time i want to remember my fellow players, that being part of a trading network to get rid of useless ressources while trading for the things needed is very important to speed up your inital development, so don't be to shy to apply
  7. yes, it will "ruin" their advantage in pvp a bit, and most likely in pve too, but certainly not in mining. And getting more different skillsets than other people, which also is a very big advantage.
  8. thats only as long as pve isn't competive and mining/crafting etc. in Dual Universe will be very competive, thus multiboxing will give a definite advantage in early and late game which completely unequalizes the game.
  9. i don't see a problem with being able to recreate a whole fleet as long as the ressources are available. I would expect that factory units to have a production time depending on the size of the final product which limits the speed with which objects can be recreated. Thats how things work in real life too if you have a fully automated production line and its absolutely fine.
  10. you may not, a battle over the domination for a major moon or similar most likely will (if DU gets a proper playerbase)
  11. There wont be any cities, at least if they keep to the lore. The only place where you should be finding NPC is the arkship, and maybe later when players built their own cities (if there will be npc generated).
  12. you should have seen my first versions, the A was below and the O with T inside above it, due to obvious reasons i decided against it
  13. - Welcome to the Open Trade Association (OTA) - We are a loose organization for traders who are looking for fast, effective and protected trade. Every player who wants to sell large quantities of ressources, rare materials for research or finished products is welcome. At the beginning of Dual Universe the highest hurdle of players will be finding the right ressources for research and basic facility building. To speed up that process, the Open Trade Association hopes to concentrate a huge variety of ressources and technology at its markets. Short term goals of the OTA are : - creating a physical market in the starter area - establish a currency accepted by all OTA - Traders - the creation of automatized weapon systems to defend local markets Long term goals of the OTA are : - playing a central role in the development of DU - maintain a trading outpost on every colonized planet - become the largest or only trading organization - supress all non-OTA currencies We are open to applications, and hope to gather all traders of the first hours in our Open Trade Association.
  14. hm, i remember reading something about 30km, but was probably in the forum, maybe the faq is out of date. thousands of km would be like earth, i hope its not like that, because that be far to big for a mmorpg.
  15. the planets have a diameter of roughly 30km, they are, in mmorpg terms, enormous^^ I think the biggest problem will be the research, we will need a lot of different components to build a basic spacecraft, and all of those need to be researched^^
  16. thats why i said that we need the abilitiy to target different parts of the ship, if the hull couldn't be breached with the attacks then that just means the targeting was bad or the weapons are weak etc. The ability to deal enough dmg to destroy the hull is something that depends on the shipdesign of the attacker, nothing that needs interference.
  17. It's too soon to give a lot of details, but here are the basics: what we can say is that it will be much more about tactics than reflexes, in part due to the fact that targets will have to be locked and then fired upon. This won't change as it is a technical constraint to make large-scale battles possible. In Ship vs Ship combat, we will intend to make it valuable to have a crew onboard a ship with several people managing weapons and a central command room to help coordinate the action. As ships will be destructible (as they are made out of voxels), we have currently several ideas in mind to develop combat in some unique ways. For example, the ability to breach a hull and board an enemy ship. This if of course just an idea at the moment, as we still need to ponder if we can implement such gameplay in a meaningful and balanced way. I don't really think you have to plan anything for it, as long as there is the ability to damage the voxels on ships as it is in space engineers, boarding will happen automatically, which is good. Its the duty of the players to design their ships in a way to make it as hard as possible, but i don't think there needs to be a seperate mechanic implemented for it. Just allow us to target different parts of ships and thats it
  18. Well, i feel like this topic might be useful, so here it is.
  19. hm, the only guy i've seen who directly cursed someone was that youtube fanboy who spammed the "DU is a Scam" video everywhere, but aside from that, you can ignore people with signature by just hovering over their posts, there will be a faint cross on the top right of the signature which lets you ignore them
  20. for now it only means we have interiorand exterior doors and a hull breach won't evacuate the whole vessel
  21. We were told the diameter of a planet is ~30km, smallest voxel size is 25cm, lets say the orbit is 5km above the ground (to fit the very small planet size), that makes 500k voxels to build a ring. if you place 1 voxel per second thats ~6d for a single line of voxels without mining, refining etc.
  22. that argument again, its, sorry for that, stupid. If you have 5 friends which play with you, then, for equal comparison, the multiboxer will also have 5 friends which play with him. If i do the same work as you, and earn 6 times as much, would you say its ok, because you could get 5 friends to give most of their earnings to you? That doesn't sound reasonable, does it? And yes, multiboxing is more work than using a single account, but thats outside of the system, its a big advantage over players who can't do that.
  23. I fear that before building something like that you have to completely mine out several planets^^
  24. yes, i'm sorry, i didn't think my posts in this forum have to be as exact as papers Arguing against something to improve the overall project is still constructive criticism tho. there is nothing that can offend me, and in my opinion the discussion didn't become increasingly harder, only increasingly futile due to the repetition of the same things over and over again. Maybe the lack of patience was recognizable. I would agree to that, but i wouldn't mind if this topic gets burried in spam Where is nora if you need him/her? (Because of past happenings with people who get offended for others, i will give the hint that the last part was irony )
