  1. I would consider duplicating construct names or even changing names good combat tactics. There is honestly no way to regulate this without artificially imposing naming restrictions for everyone and that would be very unpopular. Instead I suggest identifying targets via their construct ID. Perhaps an argument could be made that this ID should be included in the default radar HUD to help new players without sufficient lua experience. Would that be an acceptable compromise?
  2. Wow podcasts are coming back, I absolutely love this. Newsletters and forum posts are great but they fail to convey tone and other important subtleties. Seeing a dev enthusiastically describe his latest creation or acknowledge a problem with a pained/sympathetic expression can make a big difference. Looking at it from the other end, our playerbase can be extremely passionate and I am sure we come off as demanding children at times. That is definitely likely not the case. Regardless of how its phrased, we are rooting for your success. Also good luck with the internal discussions.
  3. Compactification is a different process and only works with extra small dynamic constructs. When you compact something it creates a separate "magic" blueprint that does not require any elements to deploy. Search your inventory for a small blue capsule. Then right click it, select equip, and deploy it as you normally would. Note that if you do not see one in your inventory after performing compactification, you should first try relogging. This will resync your client to the server and that can fix errors with objects not showing up (applies to both inventory contents and constructs in general). Hopefully that works for you. If not the support team will definitely figure it out just give them a little time.
  4. Hey Stew, This is due to the fact control elements maintain their custom lua settings even after you pick them up and are thus not recognized by the blueprint system. Simply right click the ECU in question and "remove dynamic properties". If you look carefully, items with stored lua settings have a small white underline on their icon. Make sure to perform this action for every control element required by your blueprint. Here is a short video outlining the process. I know its a little old, but the overall process is still the same. If it still does not work after that, please submit a ticket to DU Support so they can investigate further.
  5. Personally I am not a huge fan of 2FA but I can appreciate promoting better account security standards. Please try and keep it optional thou, as some of us like to keep our professional lives separate from our gaming career. Also just an fyi, the new authentication page says to input your username but it actually requires the player's email. You might want to fix that to avoid confusion.
  6. Either your client is not loading in correctly or your last position is wrong. I recommend you start with a force respawn and clear cache (debug options on the top right of the login screen) Also please double check that your computer meets the minimum required specifications. Contact official support via https://support.dualthegame.com if the issue persists.
  7. A friend showed me some cool artwork. Turns out it was concept art for an upcoming game. Kind of crazy how some colored sketches evolved into all of this.
  8. That is some amazing visuals and ship design. Also it was really nice to have a small story along with voice acting. Looking forward to see what comes next.
  9. Digital rewards (like DACs and pets) are going to be handed out upon official release. Physical rewards (for Kickstarters/Founders) might come a little earlier thou, I think NQ said that they would start progressively sending those out sometime between beta and official release. If you are expecting physical rewards then I highly recommend you login to the main website and ensure your address under "My Account Information" is up to date.
  10. @Emma Roid You did the right thing asking via support ticket but I also recommend you send a message to one of the discord moderators (ideally modmail if it still exists). Its quite possible that one of the bots mistakenly gave you a temporary mute. Either way try to avoid discussing it here and take it up with the staff directly.
  11. Hi Lunaprey, I am glad its working now but I fear that is only temporary. The most likely scenario here is that one of your gameplay files did not update correctly and the post update integrity check failed to catch it. The anti-cheat will continue to kick you whenever that file is indexed due to the mismatch. Sometimes it will happen right away but it could also take 30-45 minutes depending on the location. To fix the problem you can delete your current game folder and then let the launcher redownload everything. Note that NQ support might have a more elegant procedure for this so consider reaching out to them directly via https://support.dualthegame.com/
  12. It is hard to distinguish between those who put in genuine effort, those that took advantage of unbalanced features, and those who outright exploited. Consequently, we can't compensate regular players without also including those "who ruined it for everyone". This is in part why I propose this more indirect method. The DU community itself gets to interpret the stats and judge however they see fit. The ones who once again rise to the top will cement their reputation and have their efforts acknowledged. Also I am not advocating for something like "seasons", this is purely for historic purposes.
  13. In the event that a wipe is deemed necessary, and it is within NQ's power, I suggest they also publish the "DU Beta Leaderboards". Include interesting statistics like total quanta, constructs, transactions, kills, distance traveled, time played, etc. Such a leaderboard would serve as partial compensation to our most dedicated beta testers in the form of public renown/notoriety. It would also be an effective PR tool to generate additional hype for release. Many new and old players would see these leaderboards and be inspired to take part in the next wave of healthy/bloody competition. What do you guys think? Is renown an effective form of compensation for time spent playing/testing DU?
  14. Hello Zugs and welcome to the forums. I will try to answer your questions as best I can. 1) A sever wipe is currently being considered (see here for details) but regardless of what you may have heard, there is no official decision at this point in time. The staff at Novaquark are carefully assessing the situation and when a consensus is reached, you will see an official announcement on this forum page, the official news site, and/or the information channels on the DU discord. 2) Unfortunately, we do not have a timeframe but it is reasonable to assume that should the decision to wipe be made, it will take place prior to the official release date of Dual Universe. With that in mind, the developers have stated that they would like to make Athena the last major beta update before said release and are going to be focusing their attention towards smaller "polishing patches" going forward. So while I wouldn't describe release as imminent, we are getting fairly close now. 3) If you are referring to the upcoming Athena update then I would argue it has the biggest impact on new players (due to the improved FTUE) and existing players who regularly venture into deep space (new map + visuals, pvp + movement changes, and a space market). For a more detailed overview see these devblogs (FTUE, PvP, System Map, Space Market, Lua Improvements). 4) Both playing with friends and playing alone are possible in Dual Universe but your experience will vary accordingly. There is undoubtedly strength in numbers and a greater enjoyment to be had when experiencing DU alongside trusted friends, but solo play is indeed possible. From a technical standpoint, the main disadvantage to solo play is time, everything will take longer because you have to do it yourself whereas groups can divide and conquer. My suggestion would be to join an organization (the DU equivalent of guilds) and see how you like it. You can always decide to leave and go solo if its not working out.
  15. How to properly scale, translate, and rotate screen content were very common questions from new players and coupling that with the obscure offsets often led to a lot of confusion. You made the whole process so much easier and I really appreciate it. Thank you NQ-Ligo and team for all your hard work on Athena and beyond.
  16. I agree. Most of the playerbase would have begrudgingly accepted a 2-3 day rollback. The problem is those earlier exploits were rather complex and could not be patched in such a short timeframe. A rollback without a fix would have been deemed more harmful by the community at large and sets a bad precedent. However rolling back weeks worth of progress would similarly be considered extremely harmful. NQ was caught in this unfortunate dilemma but thankfully they learned from this experience and implemented the PTS and the other measures I mentioned.
  17. In all fairness there are a lot more safeguards now. For example we have officially rules on exploiting, a dedicated support category for reporting them, better logging capabilities, and most importantly a PTS server to catch problems early. So while it is still possible for another exploit to one day sneak into the live server, NQ is more prepared to deal with it. Furthermore now that the rules actually exist, players will generally be less inclined to abuse clearly broken mechanics.
  18. Hello Bento and welcome to the forums. The best thing to do when you encounter a problem is to contact NQ support via https://support.dualthegame.com. In this particular case, you likely have a corrupted installer and a reinstall alone is not completely cleaning it up. Try deleting the following folders before attempting a reinstall. That will most likely fix your issue. C:\ProgramData\Dual Universe C:\Users\<Username>\AppData\Local\NQ C:\Users\<Username>\AppData\Local\Novaquark
  19. In my opinion the two server strategy is more of a temporary fix. Even if NQ can justify the added costs of running a legacy server, most new players would be drawn to the main/popular one. With the population disparity, at some point those added costs and the maintenance overhead would prompt the need for a server merge and we would be in the exact same situation.
  20. Blazemonger has been here a long time and when he asserts something as factual then you can be fairly sure he has a reasonable basis for doing so. While our opinions may differ on many topics, his dedication to truth and precise wording has earned my respect. You may not agree with what he has to say but that does not make it wrong. Please take the time to consider those statements and the context by which they were written more carefully. I was also present during the time they were made and no such guarantee was ever implied. I would even go so far as to argue that, had NQ made such an absolute promise never to wipe, many early backers would have called it reckless. At best it can be interpreted as "we will not wipe unless necessary". Thus the question we should be debating is whether a wipe is necessary not whether it is permitted.
  21. This thread has plenty of personal opinions already and for the most part its what you would expect. The rich want to keep their riches and the poor want a wipe. I would prefer to see a more detailed analysis of how a wipe/no-wipe would impact the future of DU. This is ultimately what NQ is concerned about and by tailoring feedback accordingly, it will have more impact. Wipe Considerations: Lets NQ easily remove schematics and other features that were deemed unpopular. Lets NQ easily correct for wealth gained from bugs and exploits. Lets NQ easily implement the intended planet revamp. Puts both new and old players on equal footing (the added talent wipe option) Gives old players access to the new FTUE and Haven Technically speaking some of these could be accomplished without wiping but would cost a lot of dev power. Which if any, are the most important for DU's future and why? Also I see that many of you feel that 2 is a non-issue but honestly other than NQ, none of us know that for a fact. For all we know there is a player out there with enough funds/assets to buy several planets and live off new player's calibrations or completely monopolize future content. If you were a game dev, how do you deal with that fairly and how do you prevent this issue from creeping up again in the future? Does DU need some kind of progressive tax system? What other solutions can you think of?
  22. A lot of emphasis is being placed on the present economy. I see arguments that a wipe will restore balance. This is being countered by statements highlighting that imbalance is inevitable. Both of these perspectives seem reasonable but the debate rages on regardless. I think this is because we as players don't know the true extent of the imbalance and our individual opinions are being colored based on our perceptions of it. So I wanted to ask where do you think the line should be drawn? What percentage of all the available quanta should the top 1% of players have for a healthy DU? How much is too much? Keep in mind that everyone being equal and one person having everything are boring as hell. Also in the event it is imbalanced and NQ had unlimited dev power, how would you propose they address the problem without wiping? How do you fairly re-distribute wealth without trampling on the accomplishments of other players? Keep in mind that a net surplus/deficiency is not the issue here as NQ could just adjust the sources/sinks/costs. The problem, if it does exist, is the wealth distribution.
  23. You raise a good point. Removing schematics sounds like something that could be done without wiping. With that said, NQ have clearly analyzed it and determined that it strongly favors a wipe scenario. The exact reasoning for this is unclear but the original post was already quite long so I don't blame them for not diving into the details. My best guess is that it has to do with future plans for industry. Perhaps schematics are being substituted with another feature or maybe their removal would break existing elements. If its not too much trouble, could someone from the dev team briefly comment on this to help us understand?
  24. Thank you for the update. Its good to know you are also considering player feedback before making your decision. Like many others, I want DU to achieve long term success. Unfortunately I do not have enough experience/information to constructively comment on how this particular issue will influence that. So instead I will just extend my thanks to all the NQ staff who are actively taking part in this debate. Any employee who is willing to speak up and offer their personal/professional insights is worth their weight in gold and I hope your respective supervisors recognize that.
  25. The topic reads like you are pulling your youtube videos in protest. If so, I don't exactly agree with that approach but to each his own. Either way all the devs did was casually drop in a reminder that they would be following up on the wipe discussion soon. Literally nothing has changed yet. A wipe was always on the table and we have already seen a few instances where a partial wipe was both needed and performed. I get the frustration of not knowing what the future holds but the game is in beta. When you signed up to play you took that risk of having your progress wiped, many others didn't and are now praying for a wipe. Bets have been placed and winners will be decided soon. All of the recent "if you wipe I will quit" and "if you don't wipe I will never play" statements just come off as self-serving and likely hold very little sway over the actual decision. If you want to contribute some meaningful feedback then head on over to this thread and share your thoughts on how a wipe/no-wipe would be better for DU as a whole. Also, I sincerely hope you restore your videos at some point. Even if DU were to one day fail I for one would still enjoy watching them and remembering the good times.
