    I don't think we will ever be rid of people jumping in and launching first post ever inquiries about something they care about.
     
    However, with this FAQ we can band together, reference them here, and just approach them with open arms, open hearts, and open minds.

    As most of you are aware Novaquark is laying down the foundation for Dual Universe. They need to get the game in a strong alpha state before they launch their kickstarter campaign. This means that some of the purely aesthetic aspects of the game will have to come later on, like outfits, player customization etc.
     
    This thread is for those who would like to dream of the kinds of elements or "props" as they are called in some other games that they would like to see in dual.
     
    There are many different types of elements.
     
    • Active elements: Elements that have a function and will most likely be scriptable (rocket boosters, guns, conduits for energy transfer, etc).
    • Superficial elements: Elements that are made for decoration only. These are to help add atmosphere to a construct (pots/pans, soda cans etc).
    • Superficial Working elements: Elements like stoves, sinks, toilets. Elements that "work" in game with opening doors, flowing water etc, but have no function outside of immersive aspects.
    • Emitter elements: Elements that give off an effect such as lightning or electric arcs, waterfalls/flowing water, steam vents etc. These would fall under active elements in most cases.
     
     
    List what kind of active or superficial elements would you like to see ultimately in Dual Universe?
     
     
    I will start off with these:
     
     
    • Active elements:
    Ramp doors. Doors that extend outward to allow for easier ingress/egress into a ship style construct. Shield windows. Windows that have closable blast shields.  
    • Superficial elements:
    Desks Chairs Soda cans  
    • Superficial Working elements:
    Rotating fans. Fans that rotate at various speeds, couple well with steam vents. Spinning gears. Gears of various sizes that rotate to make mechanical looking machines.  
    • Emitter elements:
    Steam Vents that blow gusts of steam. Electric arcs. Heads up displays with the ability to change the color of the hud.  ​

    So after watching several game play videos of No Man Sky, I was VERY disappointed and angry at the developers.  They basically lied about half of the features and now I find out you can't build the ships as well........
     
    So then I saw a video comparing similar games which led me here... and wow, YES this is what I wanted!  Multiplayer, single universe, voxel based custom ships and exploration on a huge scale
     
    Just make sure you don't go back on any of this content Dev's, I think NoManSky will fall off the hype train as soon as people realise everything is the same, just with a different skin and get bored real fast.

    I just wanted to say THANK YOU to the COPS community for pushing us past the 50 member point. Glad to see there are so many like minded individuals coming to Dual Universe and finding interest in our growing community.

    I'll be hosting COPS' first game night this coming Saturday! While this is mainly for COPS members, anyone else in the Dual Universe community are more than welcome to come participate. We'll be deciding on a game and set time by Thursday, which I'll post here.

    Oops, didn't know I wasn't allowed to admit that I know stuff on these forums!  Wow.  So, sorry!  I'll keep that in mind next time and only post on threads that I know absolutely nothing about. My bad.  
     
    Wait, will someone hand me my "God-complex and illusory superiority" cloak laying on the floor over there?  I should probably take it with me on my way out.

    Proficient coders will have upper hand, there is no doubt in that  - and I do not want fight with it. But point of this topic is quite different - to lower "entry point" for non-programmers as much, as possible. And "quality" of code have nothing to do with it. No worries, you, as a pr0 haxxor, will be impregnable on your coder's high horse.
     
    It is like riding a bicycle - normal people don't stand a chance with trained sportsman, but I does not mean that we must make all bicycles impossible to use by rest of population.
     
    PS: There is special place in digital Hell for "git gud" type of player, I assure you

    It's not always easy to keep a clear head on your planet. That is why we sometimes abduct humans instead of cows...worthless humans.

    Actually, I can think of several scenarios where secret messages being sent ship to ship could be useful.

    I really can't see them not having comm channels we can create dedicated to fleet communication (and other ways). I'm so confident it'll happen I don't have hope for it; no need. =)

    That tweet says "target and lock system"; not tab-target.
    I think we're going to want to have some manual targeting that locks.
    That way we're able to get strategic instructions for the crew as directed by a captain.
    Which doesn't mean tab-target will not be an option - but, it may not be the only option.
     
    FPS style targeting won't be an option, though.

    It is perfectly clear. We are visited by some kind of extraterrestrial alien lifeform, and it try to communicate with us. But due to heavy pollution of Earth atmosphere, signals come somewhat distorted and obfuscate.

    Hi,
     
    I know that DU is not planned to be easy, and scripting will be irremovable part of game mechanic. It is something cool... but write hundreds lines of code can be bothersome task for non-programmer players; beside this, scripting is quite boring in form (you know - lines and lines of numbers and letters, nothing fancy).
     
    So. Maybe we can made scripting mini-game itself and give it some interesting graphical interface, easier to understand by "normals"? Of course "text hard mode" will be always available as second option  and even "graphical programming" can have less options than text one, like "beginner" and "veteran" versions
     
    I not talk about simplification of programming language itself, but more about some kind of GUI/IDE for that - with auto-complete and - most important - easy graphical interface like "blocks" of code for building apps. I know at last two projects, which use this kind of editors ; LEGO Mindstorm and Scratch. Here are pictures of programs build in them:

    EDT: Here is wiki about this style of programming. And you can even use some like this for LUA, too!
     

     
    In my opinion it will decrease "starting cost" for lot of people, and it can be even inspiration for someone for start learn "true" programming
