  1. And before you say "but EVE", EVE's star systems act as instances. It is a single-shard, but not a "continuous single-shard", in fact, that's the "gimmick" NQ is ridding on.

It has nothing to do with the shards, objects can be dynamically spawned or removed in empty space for players to find, and since you told me not to i'll use eve as an example, You go into a system its a shard, its basically always the same, but you can scan down instances of pve sites, do them and then they're gone, if you go back to that spot its empty, if you scan around perhaps another will spawn.

Dual, is giving you everything up-front. There won't be "new ship models", as players dictate the ship designs with voxels

There are aspects of the game that wont be voxel, weapon models, cockpits and other elements. To think that as the game matures there wont be a demand for new items of this nature to be added is naive.

you seem to argue questions with assumptions which is getting very tiresome. my question was directed at NQ who is the only ones who can actually answer the original question. so i see no reason to debate it any further.

  2. Oh Ancient One, excuse my wondering, but how would an expansion work in the context of a procedural universe? Updates, yes, new tools being acceissible, sure, but expansions is a very... old way of approaching a procedural world. In EVE, that works, it is a static universe, no procedural exploration and so on, it is a predfined theme park sandbox, but Dual differs on that part. You can't have emergent gameplay and then raise the surface level, cause that would leave many players submerged... err, you get the metaphor, oh Ancient One.

They could always change the regions of the universe outside of the area players have visited to add new things as we expand deeper and deeper into space, new tech tree, new weapons, special types of PVE instances. I just don't want to be a year down the road and them be all "ok so we need another $80 each if you want to do X activity we just added"

  3. I think asteroids was a separate question from exploring deep space?

Yes and no could be either way, I dont want too much hang up on terminology of what defines deep space, vs solar system. I just mean outside of the immediate range of planets and where people will primarily congregate. 'the fringe' we'll call it for now :)

Safe zones surrounding traveling spaceships seems unlikely.

I don't mean to have a travelling space ship that's invulnerable, but rather define a section of space or space station as some kind of similar zone to what the ark ship creates. but without having to be on planet, there was some discussion about people making cities outside the ark ship zone and somehow defining them as indestructible unless someone does something to contest it or whatever. a similar mechanic would be what i'm looking for not necessarily a permanent safe zone like the starting zones but a contestable one. even if it had to be focused around an asteroid or some other small stellar body even.

I'm expecting asteroids within solar systems that can be mined to be relatively common. Seems like asteroids in deep space would be rare, yes.

as long as there is a way to live out of planet for extended periods of time, ideally permanently

  4. I agree with and quite like what nora suggested.

Making an in game comms system for open communication with general population in range, with frequency channels so you can avoid the annoying people could be a great addition

and i also agree in game voice should be a pretty low priority given the limited use it will see.

perhaps what jankaw mentioned is an even better implementation like a local chat that players in range can use to type to each other, that would see substantial use

  5. I fully support and am glad to hear this is a subscription type game because:

    1. it means a better chance for updated content later on
    2. banning poo heads is more of a punishment and easier to enforce via billing info than IP/email (i say that knowing i may very well be considered a poo head)
    3. servers less likely to disappear without notice

so NQ I expect you'll get much hate for this, but you made the right choice in my eyes and i'm sure i'm not alone based on the other posts i've read :)

  6. In principal the idea is good, in practice in game voip tends to be so poorly implemented most people don't even try to see if it works they just use whatever they've been using for every other game.

I don't dislike the idea, but i don't think it will be widely used even if implemented.

  7. I haven't been able to find any mention of it, does anyone know if there will be any type of asteroids or other resources in space that would allow for a space faring civilization to exist? perhaps even have something equivalent of an ark ship that lets you create a safe zone of some sort (if for no other reason than to leave stuff when you logout) in deep space?

It would be a shame if there was no possible way to live nomadically. I feel like the game would be really lacking if there wasn't some provision for cultures to shun planetary life and live in the darkness of space away from all the planetary politics and empires

It's probably been mentioned but in the few minutes i searched for an answer i found nothing.

  8. That's a pretty cool idea, and these days its not even far fetched could even use an api to something like a google server to offset load if that's an issue.

could even use translate to make it a universal warning based on game users regional settings

  9. it would be nice if you could gain somethign other than just raw materials from salvaging an enemy wreck,  for example say you salvage a wreck, perhaps you get a partial blueprint, you salvage another few ships of that design, now you've managed to get a functional blueprint to produce this ship yourself.

also some form of tug of war mechanic would be cool like you can have to ships pulling same wreck, perhaps the wreck gets torn in two, perhaps its a sturdy wreck and one of the ships has its towing device torn off by the other if adequate force is available to cause the damage

  10. This kind of feels like one of those rules that has to be enforced by GMs it's not really anyworse than someone spamming profanity in chat

And as easy as wrist slap then ban or whatever

But yeah 100% for sure I errr I mean someone would do that

  11. Firstly @op love you and your thought process. I could see a ransom mechanic that would be wonderfull and as much as I would love to enslave those who oppose me.... and their families I don't see a way that could actually be added to the game without other players agreeing to it. Perhaps an outer space region that is excesively dangerous and allows additional evil....
