  1. Hello folks, me again. I'm sure you all are tired of seeing me go on, and on, and on about things that most of you probably don't care about. But too bad, I'm here to stay. There's always gonna be the select few who are interested, and I'm looking to make those select few some rich folks!

There's nothing really important going on that I needed to put in this post. Really, it's just a shameless bump-up so that this topic would appear at the front of the Arkship Pub again (such a bad tactic, I know, right?) So yeah, here we are again. Probably gonna be drowned from the first page in the next two days, but the 48 hours of fame are worth it :P

So yes, Chromion Industrial still exists, and we are still recruiting. If you wanna chat with us, head over to our Discord server (it could use some revitalizing, I put in a meme channel and no one even posts in it, that's just sad) Don't forget to take a look at our community portal page, especially if you're thinking about joining.

That's all for this time, folks. Hope yall are having a great week, or even just a great day. Keep an eye out for more updates, and remember: Rise high, and cast your shadow over the world!

    Sincerely, Halo381

  2. Hey there folks! Long time no see! Chromion has been kind of under the radar for a while, after all there isn't much for us to do. However, with Alpha right around the corner, I figured it's time for Chromion Industrial's Ad Campaign!!!!!!

    ........

Okay, so maybe not. But I am here to remind you all that we still exist, and that we're still looking for new members! I'd also like to remind everyone that Chromion is not just a Mining Corporation. We dabble in all aspects of Industry. Research and Development, Shipbuilding, and Mining. We also have a Navy, for anyone interested in making things go boom outside of the lab. And of course, lets not forget, you lot get paid for joining and working with us. If nothing else, at least that should get your attention, am I right? :PWhile the figures are obscure since we don't really have an idea of how much anything will cost yet, you would make a weekly salary by working for us, and for every job you completed that week you'd also have payment for that added onto your salary. As long as you're a member of our organization, you shall receive payment for furthering our goals. Just remember: You won't get paid for a week if you didn't work that week.

Before I sign off, I'd like to note: at launch, no one is going to have a lot of... well, anything really. With the exception of manpower, every organization will be on the exact same playing field: that is to say, Broke. No one will have resources, no one will have money. I apologize in advance if my members are unable to receive a salary, or if their salaries are rather small during the early days of the game. However, after we get off our feet, you will be getting paid, make no mistake.

That's all for now folks. I hope you all are having a lovely week. Stay tuned for more updates, and remember: Rise high, and cast your shadow over the world!

    Sincerely, Halo381

  3. My problem with the whole alt thing is: No one should be on the battlefield who isn't participating. Anyone who isn't participating ought to leave or they'll get shot. You want your alt to record the fight? How do I know they aren't scouting for the enemy? You tell me they're neutral, but no matter whether I trust them or not, if anything that isn't a known ally gets within range of my weapons, I'm destroying it.

Imagine, if one team were to stage an ambush. Then, comes along a little recorder alt in their alt ship, streaming the whole thing. The alt bumps into the ambush. Turns out, the enemy team was watching the stream, and now the ambush is ruined. Of course, scouting is a perfectly fine tactic. I just don't want some alt claiming to do it for historical purposes leaking information, purposefully or not. Feel free to dislike me for shooting down your alt's ships, but they aren't getting anywhere near my fleet.

  6. I think this entire back and forth between Kurock and Twerk is based around the idea that the whole Cleaner matter is based around a skill that lets you clean items. I believe in the OP Kurock said the Cleaner would be an Element, that I assume wouldn't be *too* expensive to make, and that removes tags from whatever items you put in it, at whatever quantity, thus meaning that you can use them without being labeled an outlaw (assuming the person you killed has no idea who you are and hasn't tagged you as an outlaw already). While you can take the ore, and the ammo, and whatnot, if you want to use the guns or the boots you gotta hack them or clean them, otherwise you'll be labeled an outlaw. Most pirates (or soldiers on the battlefield) don't care, so meh, they'll be able to make full use of the stuff they loot. However, some people don't want to get the infraction against them, so they can pass through cities with no one giving them the stink eye, but still be a proper mafia boss, so they take it to the cleaner before they use it.

Also I find that such a black and white system for determining who an outlaw is or isn't is kind of lacking. If my friend lends me an item but I don't have the tags for it, do I get labeled an outlaw for having 'stolen' the item? Will there be a 'trade' option where two characters face to face can exchange items without fear of such a thing? That'd be the catch-all I'd expect.

EDIT: I assume the element would be small enough to fit into a frigate, but not something you could stick on a tiny little two man ship. For balance.

  7. Are we sure it wont care about mass going through it? What if there were/could be different sized stargates. Like you can build small 'relatively cheap' but it can only send through fighter or shuttle. To send heavy freighter or battleship would require much larger and more expensive one. I though about a modular design where players can build bigger gates to send bigger ships further by building more of some gate elements into one structure, but that could turn out trickier technology wise (irl).

I've thought about this too and I think it'd be a really good way to do stargates, if it's possible with current technology. It'd make the game more immersive (cause having a 1km long ship go through a kinda small stargate is just gonna look terrible) and it'd mean that if you want to open up a trade route (or a military route) you have to make stargates big enough to fit all the ships you're expecting. This also means that, while people *can* build extremely massive and costly ships, it'd be more efficient to build some smaller ships that could potentially have more detail in them, and will probably require less crew to run.

Stargates would only connect to other stargates of equal or greater size, which means you can't go literally anywhere just because there's a stargate in the system. You have to actually plan your routes. This also means that military forces can't just pop out of nowhere and murder your face. If there isn't a big stargate to your system, their Capital Ships have to go the long way to get to you. Of course, the opposite is also true. If you want to hit your enemy's base, chances are you're gonna have to take the long way.

  8. Sounds like a really cool idea, and would be especially useful after the game has developed over a matter of time. Being able to temporarily break into a secure location using someones DNA coding or something would be very cool.

However as much as I hate to debunk this idea, I believe it is flawed in a way as to how the resurrection nodes work.

When someone dies, their consciousness is basically transferred to another parallel universe where they never died. Therefore how would someone be able to steal an implant from a dead body if technically the universe in which they died in, is no longer the 'primary universe'.

Correct me if I'm wrong, because I truly like this idea, and love the level of immersion it could offer. :)

The body still contains the implants that were coded for that specific person, and since the body persists, the implants can be stolen. The consciousness doesn't go to a parallel universe and stay there, otherwise all the players would be playing on different instances  :P  The consciousness returns to the original universe.

  9. Thanks! Now I am curious though, where it was that people saw the currency called "Quanta".

Perhaps NQ changed the name in a recent update?

No offense to either party, I just want to be sure we are referencing the most current material.

Now, for what the U2 symbol would look like......

At the GDC event, when JC showed a tech demo of the game to a small group of fans. Someone asked what the currency would be and he said it would be 'Quanta'.

  10. The problem with Multi-boxing on a subscription MMO is, you guessed it, the money.

You would need to give your alts a DAC/Subscription as well, plus you would have very delayed response times manually switching, leaving everything else vulnerable.

    (*insert Cybrex joke here*)

"You're all my alts, therefore I am always multi-boxing."

  11. First off: Welcome to the community!

    Now, to answer your questions:

A lot of us play other games together to pass the time. In one org I'm a member of, Cinderfall, they've got dedicated servers to keep everyone occupied while we wait for alpha. I believe Band of Outlaws also has a few servers up and running.

Some of us choose instead to spend our time drawing and 3D Modeling ships. It's not a widespread pastime but the people who spend their time doing this generallly have excellent ship designs cough Objective Driveyards cough

Asides from that, everyone likes to chat on Discord and speculate about exactly how awesome this game might be.

  12. Hello folks! I've made a few small changes to the organization description, which will be detailed as such:

The Security Division section has been updated, and from this day forth, The Security Division shall now be known as The Chromion Industrial Navy, (CIN for short). Please, look over this section. If you like what you see, we'd appreciate some new applicants. ;)

Also note that a the other two divisions have had a slight amendment. Previously, it was going to be left up to the Directors of each Division to determine exactly how the Division would be structured underneath them. For the sake of organization, time, and congruity, I've taken this section out and decided to do it myself. Chromion Industrial Navy is the only Division that retains this power, however that may change. The structure of the other two Divisions will be drawn up around the time Alpha starts, and the decision on whether or not the Commander of CIN will retain his chosen chain of command will be made around then.

That's all for today folks. Have a good one!

    Sincerely,

    Halo381, Head Director
