  1. I'll be interested in learning much more about the safe zones as time goes on, and I am in split mind concerning them. Personally, I believe some things should be protected. Much like in the real world, we pretty much have safe zones. Any major city in a western nation is a safe zone to the degree that it is protected (or should be). Most nations are particularly protective of their airspace for this reason. For a civilisation to thrive, which it will need to do so in Dual Universe, there has to be safe zones for things to be built and stay built.

On the other hand, there is a lot of motivation in fighting to defend your home, or your city, or whatever it is you've built, and keep it safe from potential invaders. I guess this is where guilds and organisations come in. Perhaps alliance will be forged to protect each others interests, but not everyone will be in a guild, and not everyone wants to PvP.

Some roleplayers will appreciate full destructive capabilities, others will prefer the town or abode or station they took a long time to build isn't easily open to destruction so that they can continue to roleplay in a way that fits their own desires.

  2. I'm happy with a subscription. As much as I might like F2P or B2P, they, in and of themselves, don't keep me around. The games I pay for on a monthly basis, are the ones I keep playing. The ones that rely heavily on cash shops are the ones I might dip into now and again when I see something nice, but my time in them is fleeting.

Give me a good solid, quality game with a monthly sub. It gives me assurance the playerbase will be mostly comprised of equally committed players too.

  3. I like the Los Angeles from Blade Runner! Good one.

Blade runner was my first DVD when the DVD format came out. One of my favorite movies.

As far as what city I would like to see...Elysium. Bespin. Tokyo 3.

Thought you might like it

I also actually like Theed from planet Naboo. I love the conbination of fantasy/period styles with sci fi.

  4. /bow (to bow before someone, like Japanese do)

    /talk (talk to someone)

/conversation /convo (talk to someone in an infinite loop)

/Alienparagon (transform into a short but skinny big headed grey alien) :P

    /eat (eat food)

/eating (eat food in an infinite loop)

    /drink (drink something)

/drinking (drink something in an infinite loop)

/datapad (pulls out a data pad and reads it, like a tablet)

    /Alienparagon ......interesting!

I like the /datapad one. Techy emotes would be cool.

    /laser (laser beam)

    /scan (scan targeted item)

    /confused (scratch head)

  5. Hi everyone ! :)

(I edited the title to give some clarity on the global topic of this thread)

Just to keep you updated on the topic.

After talking to the dev in charge, making a /lean emote should be technically feasible in Dual Universe.

However, it doesn't mean it would be easy. If it can be done in a reasonable development time remains to be evaluated.

If the idea is validated, it will still be quite far in the roadmap. We plan to develop more classic emotes before, where the /sit emote will be included.

On that topic, we want to have your feedback on which emotes seem the most important to you.

Here are the ones we thought about:

(feel free to mention if you think some are not necessary or missing)

    /wave (waving hand, civilian greeting)
    /salute (o7, military greeting)
    /sit (sitting on a chair)
    /laugh (laughing)
    /shout (shouting)
    /point (pointing something/someone with a finger)
    /rude (making a rude gesture)
    /dance (dancing)
    /sleep (lying on the ground)
    /yes (nodding)
    /no (head shaking)

    Best Regards,

    Nyzaltar

Sounds cool, and also the title change makes sense because of the combination of topics for different emotes/animations.

I like all of the above emotes, I wonder if a /sit (on chair) and /sit (on ground) would be feasible for us lounge lizards that also like sitting on grass or other pretty places.

Some of my fav emotes from an older game I used to play: /flirt (flirtateous pose)  /faint (faint on the ground) and /kiss (blow a kiss)  :P It's surprising how many situations can warrant a /faint.

I'm one of those people who'd never say an emote isn't necessary, because I love emoting.

Other potentials: /angry (shake fist)  /drunk (sway drunkenly)

  6. I played a game once where you sat if you clicked a chair. On the converse, I've played one where you couldn't properly sit on chairs at all. The former is definitely worth the time to put in, the latter not so much.

I'm iffy on the leaning, simply because I wouldn't do something like that. But, given the general consensus that it's cool, I'm for it.

Hehe I think leaning is up there with non-essential things, but good for roleplayers, people who like to pose, or feel immersed by their character via animations etc.

I think for me, anything that helps the character feel attached to the environment around them helps with my immersion and just brings a certain joy in seeing my character doing quirky things like that.

  7.

    About the copyright thing:

We will double check with our legal department (it was already something we discussed in the past, but as international law may evolve and is quite tricky, especially in this blurry situation, we prefer to check and check again). So far, this is how it will most likely be handled (but what is explained below can always be subject to change):  it will be stipulated in the EULA that If some players build something under copyright (USS Enterprise or Death Star), Novaquark staff might take action to remove it. After a first incident, if the involved players continue to build copyrighted things despite the warning, they might be banned (temporarily or definitively according to the number of offenses). We need to include this kind of measure in the EULA to be legally covered. In the facts, we will only do that if we receive complaints from copyright owner. But that shouldn't be seen as a green light to build copyrighted things. Players must be aware they take a risk (and must take responsability for it) if they build copyrighted things. In short, we dont wan't to hinder player freedom, unless we are legally forced.

    About the style/art vision:

We will give a "starting style" (the Arkship, the generic construct blueprints available right from the beginning, etc).

We will also slightly influence the Art vision in two ways:

    - The textures for the materials (for example, right now, no flashy pink color is planned :P)

    - The decorative props available will be related to specific styles (like the Art Nouveau style).

But from there, people will be free to invent their own style.

Regarding the problems that will rise undoubtedly from such freedom (people building stuff that may be offensing and/or that doesn't fit in the world), we are currently looking into something that might help to solve both situations. But it is a bit early to talk about it. We want to see first if this is feasible :)

    Best Regards,

    Nyzaltar.

Sounds good to me  :D , you're right, I hadn't considered the texture element. On consideration the textures will help people be inspired to build in a way that reflects, enhances and compliments sci fi and the DU underlying style. As well with props as you mention.

I don't consider it will be a big issue that anyone will build far outside of sci fi (i.e Disney castles or giant pink jelly shaped houses), in fact I believe most people will build marvellous and varied structures in the spirit of sci fi, but there will always be one or two

  8. Well said.

I'd love to go from sector to sector, being exposed to different player "styles". One place your in a steampunk area, the next a cyberpunk Bladerunner style. No need to limit player creativity because the developers have their own vision of what should and shouldn't be. If they did that, it would sort of go against everything they have been saying to this day.

So would I. It's a Sci fi based game so I'd expect all varieties of many different styles.

Its not about impeding anyone. I think my point was lost, but if someone builds something alien to a Sci fi setting. Like a giant nose (or something ruder).....would it be removed?

I see what you're saying. But DU doesn't really have a "style" from what I've seen. The only example of a ship from Earth is the Arkship. To that end, we'll all end up using

our own styles, and all emerging governments and corporations may have a style. Think of it like any 4X sci-fi game as if every race were seeded from one a long time ago

and evolved into something else entirely.

I can tell by your response you understand my point. Looking at some interior concept pictures DU does seem to have its own style. And I vaguely remember Nyzaltar in a different thread referring to keeping to a DU style on a different topic. I'd have to hunt through the threads to find it.

I know it's a building game but with Sci fi aspects. So if I build a Disney castle I doubt it would fit with the general atmosphere. :)

But yes I'm looking forward to exploring my own style of building in this game, and seeing creations of others, especially from Sci fi builders of another building game in development. It's really quite exciting.

  9. I think that copyright laws are a little odd in this area. Since those constructs are produced by a private player, I don't think legal action can be taken. From my

understanding, copyright laws only take effect when someone is trying to make a profit off of a copyrighted thing. Since no one here is making real money from the ships,

and since the DU devs didn't make it and use it to sell the game, I don't think there'll be an issue.

It's not about copyright, it's about the style and lore DU has, and whether building will be required to be lore appropriate. I probably didn't word my question very well.

If someone built a giant nose for example, would that be required to be removed, because it's not in-keeping with the DU style.

My typical style of building has tended to be classical/medieval/fantasy, but I do enjoy sci fi as well. I'm fully anticipating that I'll build the latter rather than the former, unless it has a sci fi style.

  10. It's fair to say I'm buzzing and eager to try out all of these building tools. It really sounds like NQ is making good progress. Keep up the good work!

I want to ask a question as it's something I pondered on: unlike some builders out there that are genre non-specific, where you can build any style, DU is Sci fi, and has its own style and lore. Will there be style guidelines, or limitations to the styles people can build?

That also includes copyrighted/recognisable things such as the Starship Enterprise or the Death Star. If someone builds a giant pink house for example, would action be taken to have that removed?

I wouldn't build anything copyrighted or (hopefully) at odds with the Dual Universe/Sci fi style, but there will always be those that will. Or will DU be very much relaxed on what players build out in the world?
