  1. As I should state though, it doesn't really matter if you post your age, give your current status in life, or whatever details. As long as you are a respectable, mature member in the community that does not antagonize the devs, members, and so forth, then you shouldn't really have a problem.

    This.

That's exactly what I wanted to read. That's how it should be everywhere.
    This makes a good community.
  2. This tag sounds more like "Please, OOC on me, it triggers me a lot".

    In my opinion :

    1) make a bar or place of congregation in-game

    2) put rules on the entrance that state it's an RP club

    3) have bouncers kicking people who OOC and have a fee of entry.

Problem solved, have fun RP'ng. Think of this a "safezone for RP'rs"

This is exactly what it should not be.

I do not want a safe zone. Why would you restrict yourself to hubs in a universe of possibilities? Role playing can always and everywhere take place. In my opinion it would also be wrong to hide behind an entry fee. Role play is what we make of it. And everyone is invited. And if someone is trolling, then he is expelled from the building.

It is frustrating when you approach people who are clearly OOC.
    - "lol, why are you talking so swollen?"
    - "Don't you have a real life that you want to be someone else?"
    - "Are you such an RPG freak?"

These and similar answers came when I spoke to someone IC. Sure, you ignore it, but do I have to "try" to find the role player?

The same is true in the vastness of the universe. If I meet another player in solitude, I could see by the tag I'm getting into.

    - No rp tag?
You say kindly Hello and look like your counterparts reacts. If he shoots first, you shoot back.

    - RP tag?
You signal with the tag you want to do some role play. You say friendly hello. If he rob you in the rp, it is your bad luck, but the bigger the reward is that it happened in the rp.

This RP tag lets both sides know what they are doing. On the other hand, you do not bother OOC people with RP and vice versa. The difference is that the role player can switch when the situation requires.
  3. SirJohn, I also played certain classic MMORPGs such as SWG and saw RP in those.

I get what you try to encourage the devs to add and it makes sense.

On the other hand I kind of take it easy and almost expect that anyone with a certain MMORPG RP experience knows how to help themselves in order to support or find RP. How's the situation in most classic MMORPGs for RPers anyway?

The fact is (at least to my knowledge and as seen in all MMORPGs I played so far) that not even on the 'official' RP servers, all are roleplayers. On official servers you can never really expect passive roleplay (what people mostly do in MMORPGs) all the time and not from everyone.

Solution or workarounds? RP hubs and creating interest groups. Just because you join some RP org doesn't mean you are restricted to just playing with them, but it's a good first step to get started. Chances are many other groups will offer something you like and that makes it easy to find what you look for once you know it exists. The rest is just arranging things and details.

But that ties in to my previous post:

Give the roleplayer some basic tools, at least some character customization and some emotes and the rest will be managed by them. Heck, throw in some decent tag, a very small icon as indicator or a colored name if that helps people.

But the rest - such as organizing themselves - is up to RP'ers. Those should be thankful in general because these games with emergent gameplay and lots of player freedoms naturally support immersion or some basic level of RP. Some should keep in mind, RP doesn't necessarily have to be passive and strictly text based.

There's enough games or game modes out there that cover active RP or both active and passive RP. I like both combined, if possible. And I think DU may be a good candidate next to SC.

I completely agree with you. Both in this, as well as in the previous post. :) Exactly these basic tools are needed. The rest does not matter because the roleplayers create the content. And you are also quite right. The hubs, the cantinas, etc... This works by itself.

That's why I do not understand your post. In the idea, I was only concerned about these basic tools.
  4. That is because there's only one shard, that which we all play on (As I'm sure you know). As for not knowing who role-plays and who does not, you're looking in the wrong place. Go to the organization page, and scroll through the hundreds of organizations that are listed. Find one that does RP, and join them. Problem solved.

Problem not solved. I want to role play with all people, which want to do rp. Not only my organisation. That's why I wrote "strangers" in the first post. Have you ever played Lord of the Rings Online? Or Star Wars Galaxies? Have you seen the flagged RP people?

    ---

so roleplay will come on its owns (See also: Players do the RPing).

Only if you can find them.

It would also take a lot of development time for such a feature that not everyone (let alone 1/4) of DU's population will use.

    lol? 5 Minute example:

function chatCommand( ply, text, public )
        if (string.sub(text, 1, 3) == "/me") then --if the first 3 letters are /me, execute emote.
             ply:Me()
return(false) --Hides the "/me" from chat
        end
    end
    hook.Add( "PlayerSay", "chatCommand", chatCommand );

  5. Greetings.

I am a passionate role player. I see a small problem: A server for all players. I have no way to go to an RP shard to find like-minded people. It is difficult with strangers. I can not know who does roleplay and who does not.

    My wish:

Give me a command to color my display name.

    Here's an example:

    Type /rp on

to turn your name white(?) and signal to other role-players that you are ready for roleplay or are role-playing.

    Type /rp off

to turn your name back to yellow(?) to signal to others that you are not role-playing.

    Type /rp

    to display your role-playing status.

I am well aware that it is for a minority. Alone by this color change, I know if I can appeal to role play.

And since we are on the subject:

Add a /me command to the local chat.

/me is the command used to describe an action that your character is doing.

Here is an example that you type in the local chat: "/me sits down on the bench, and yawns."

Output in Chat: "SirJohn85 sits down on the bench, and yawns."

    Cheers!

  6. The way that would work is Youtuber/media outlet makes a list of questions/topics that they would like to make a video on. Youtuber sends this to one of the community managers (who may or may not also have other jobs), who then relays this to the correct people. Youtuber receives answers (even if they are 'idk') and then makes a video. The problem for the devs though is that no one is doing regular DU videos, therefore they don't know who would work (in return, I say challenge accepted) and that it may annoy some of the dev team who just want to get on with work. It also has the potential to backfire due to either the CM or the youtuber misinterpreting things and the general flux of pre-alpha/alpha.

P.S. To anyone from NQ reading this, I am willing to be your voice.

    Quite right!

That's why I wrote that they should look at it. The simple question in the office, who would like to do that ... Et voilà, your potential candidates are given.
And if really something should not work, you can also ask the people in the forum. I would help. That goes without saying. After all, we are a community.

And ultimately you could see it as a pilot project. You do it once and draw your feedback from it.
  7. I mean, I know how to use twitch but depending on their computers and setups, I can be difficult to work, running software, and streaming to twitch. Playing a game and streaming is different than programming, game design and streaming. Although twitch is easy to use and set-up, you need to maintain everything, good connection, computer capable of handling everything. We don't know what they use. If it was just filming them that would be one thing.

They also have a lot of different work to do. Streaming stuff for an alpha is not top priority unless they want to push back alpha release, put in more hours, or hire someone else to work on that and nothing every runs as smoothly as you wrote it.

And that 's exactly why I use this as an idea.

Maybe they have already thought about that. Maybe not. It is intended to encourage the developers to think about it. Especially since we have no idea what they think about it.

So I leave it as an idea in the room. Or did I not understand the meaning and purpose of this forum section? ;)
  8. I don't know if you've ever worked for a startup, but absolutely nothing is EVER this straightforward. In a startup nobody ever has statically defined roles, you are expected to fulfill multiple roles and you are always racing against the clock.

Sure it's easy to setup OBS and stream to twitch, but we're talking about a company with limited staff, limited budget and limited time.

It's a much more valuable use of time to have JC do interviews with people who have their own audiences they can target, rather than having someone try to manage yet another social media outlet.

Yes, I did in the past. Now I am in a company that works with ITIL. (What is common in the IT industry)

In the last sentence I do not agree. Here is the reason:
JC gives 10 interviews with 10 different people, one hour each. So he explained in 10 hours, 10 times that he has a scientific background and you read 10 times the star-destroyer example.

Instead of peddling, people are picked up. Youtuber get the necessary information, make videos and it distributes by itself.

Why do you think that it would not have any added value?

    - So you have an overview of what they are working on
    - You see how the game goes ahead
    - Players form an opinion about the game and the company. (PR!)

I mean, we're not talking about the fact that you should stream every week. Once a month for maybe 1 hour.
  9. Well NQ is very open for discussion, as proved many times.

Still it's better not to waste time, money and devs on such a thing when you could use all that to get alpha out so people can stream for themselves and make videos of the tests (if allowed that is ofc).

    1. More viewers = More potential backers = More revenue.

    2. I'm pretty sure you have to sign a non-disclosure agreement (NDA), which is common at this stage.

Setting something like this up takes a lot of time and resources

    Yes and no.

    1. Define date with the boss and the framework you want to show. It is enough if you show ingame footage and make a moderated Q & A.
    2. Download Open Broadcast Software and read this guide:
    3. Expose it as you build the "hype" around your stream on your social media channels.
    4. Enjoy the streaming. Calm down. Answer the questions.   :)
    5. ???
    6. Profit

On the one hand we have the Q & A thread, which concerns only the existing members. In an open channel you can reach everyone and everyone can ask questions. If a question is still too early, you can say "It's too early." What is the next question?

And I'm pretty sure that is less elaborate than selecting specific questions from the thread. Time saved and the world informed. It lets you kill two birds with one stone    :)

It has to be said that, for this stage of development, they are throwing a lot of content and updates at us.

    Unfortunately, I have to disagree.

Videos with 2 minutes runtime, .. I do not take as a reference. It indicates where the journey goes, but it is not a qualitatively meaningful material.

Let's go a step further. Which game has the most players disappointed in 2016?

I quote JC at this interview: http://www.eurogamer...-mans-sky-world -

"No Man's Sky has hurt us, very clearly," Jean-Christophe Baillie, an impeccably smart looking Frenchman, tells me as he finishes his short demo of Dual Universe in action. "This is a post-no man's sky era." "It's a huge amount of distrust in the community." As you know, we're doing a kickstarter, and it's just no man's We all know what's going on, and what's going to happen.

Several gaming magazines have news about Dual Universe. I have compiled a few (which I read):

    http://www.gamestar....news/53842.html

    http://www.pcgamer.c...m=dual universe

    http://www.eurogamer...s/dual-universe

    http://www.gamespot.com/dual-universe/

Many still have the latest status from October. Individual interviews are also available on Youtube. But no ingame footage.

And for that reason and exactly because of this statement, I advocate Twitch. Show people what you have, we know it's pre alpha.

What I forgot in the first post: Maybe someone has followed the Dev Stream of Conan Exiles. These guys are also present on Twitch. Also behind it stands Funcom, a big publisher. And I'm sure they're more strict about something.

First of all, I want Dual Universe to be a success. I would like to prevent with this thread, which one might miss a potential possibility. After the No Man Sky Fiasko, players are reluctant. (As you read in the comments on Gamestar above, unfortunately only in German) And by going openly to the community, you reduce the risk.

  11.

    Hello everybody. :)

I'm new to the community. Many discussions are based on speculations that are usually left in the room. Beautiful theories with good solutions. It bother me when I see long posts that are discussed up to death.

So I'm throwing the idea that the devs should take advantage of the possibilities of Twitch. I do not mention it for no reason. Another indie game developer takes advantage of this. Whoever follows the steps of Astroneer sees the potential of this stream. You can look over the shoulders of the developers. And the makers of Astroneer have a team size of 15 men and women.

Do not get me wrong - this is not supposed to be an advertisement for another game.

But do you see the possibilities of this platform?

    Three Reasons for Players:

    - Q & A with gaming material

    - Artists are modeling the elements.

    - Developers explain simple mechanics (LUA, elevator, build ship, ...)

    Three reasons for NovaQuark:

    - Transparent towards the customer. (Yes Man Sky ? ;))

    - Interested players can get a picture of the game, indirect advetising

    - Unified Communications - In the social media, a single message is enough to alert the players to this event.

I do not post a link to the above stream of the other game. With Google, however, everyone should come to what I mean by that. :) But I would appreciate it very much if NovaQuark does something similar.

  12. As always a good read, CaptainTowermotor.

It is difficult to interpret from little information. You work with the sources that are available on the Internet.

I must fairly say that I did not play Eve for long. (RL Reasons) I've got better memories with Star Wars Galaxies, Earth & Beyond, Asheron's Call 2 and other older mmorpg games. I understand the thoughts behind it. They affect me conclusively. I also think that would be a topic in itself worth.

At least I'm curious when new information will be announced.

Nonetheless, that does not alter my consent to the cloning sickness and to your possible solution to the problem. :)

  13. I think this idea is great!

I would even go a step further and complement the idea of CaptainTwerkmotor. In my opinion, PvP is something that should be full of risks. It should be sensible and well thought out when you attack someone.

I think the most useful thing that you could do here would be some sort of reputation system.

I am firmly convinced that this should be a balance in the game to change the PvP. Sometimes there is a bigger, sometimes a smaller risk.

But let me explain more so you get an idea:

From a neutral point of view, the defeated party would have the described trauma mechanics.

Let's say I have a crew on my ship. The space ship is called AVALON. My team has specialized in piracy. We attack everything that gets in our way. AVALON, our construct in this example, usually performs the first strike. And we also destroy every ship we can attack.

    Now comes the highlight:

Both AVALON (the construct) and the crew are gained a reputation. How will this happen?

To increase the reputation, the prerequisites must be fulfilled. That could be anything. In this example, 50 hits must be executed and 10 ships destroyed in order to get a title / reputation. Let's call this title rogue.

AVALON and the crew are now rogues. What now?

The developed reputation / title is now known in the universe. The radars recognize the ship name. Hackers could write a script in Lua to conceal the construct for the radar display, for example. Trauma Mechanics for rouges would be 25% higher as they have deliberately chosen the fight in the past.

For a bounty hunter mission, I would put it as followed:

    - A rogue is on the list = 50% higher trauma mechanics than on neutral

    - A neutral victim is on the list = 25% higher traume mechans than on neutral

    - The neutral hunter accepts the mission = 25% higher trauma mechanics than on neutral

    - The rogue hunter accepts the mission = 50% higher traume mechanics than on neutral

It would be an interesting cat and mouse game.

The title of Rogue would be kept until a tick is removed. Even then it does not jump immediately to neutral but must fulfill requirements.

    Example:

    - Accept a bounty hunter mission and eliminate the victim. Or

    - wait 1 weeks real time.

Numbers serve as placeholders to get the general idea behind it.

It offers 3 things that I feel as important:

    - Where a cause occurs, an effect is visible. - Rogue title

    - You are classified as a threat - you will make a name for yourself in PvP.

    - Bounty missions are a challenge for attackers and victims - your name is not written on the list for no reason. Is it worth the risk?

  14. I liked the idea back in Star Wars Galaxies:

When a character clones, their health and action statistics are reduced by 75% for a period of 10 minutes. There are three ways of healing the cloning sickness:

    - Waiting it out

    - Watching or listening to an entertainer (in a cantina, hotel, tavern, theater or any player structure).

    - Visiting the surgical droid in most major Cloning Facilities that will remove the cloning sickness for a fee. This fee amount increases with the level of your character (for a CL 90 character the fee is 5000 credits).

  15. Are Alienware laptops good?

I personally would not buy a laptop from Alienware. The price is not in relation to the performance.

Instead, I advise you to compare. Http://www.notebookcheck.net/ is a reputable site. It illuminates all laptops with comprehensible tests and give a useful conclusion. You have no reason to overthrow something now.
  16. Let's go through it analytically.

We have many events this year. Known international events:

    PAX East: 10. - 12. March 2017

    E3: 15-17 June 2017

    Gamescom: 22. - 26. August , 2017

    Tokyo Game Show: 21 - 24 September 2017

    Paris Games Week: October 2017

NovaQuark was present last year on PAX, E3 and Gamescom. I do not expect it to start two weeks before, during or after one of these events. Every man / woman is needed.

As a business man, I suspect JC would like to convince the public. Dual Universe is no empty promise, Dual Universe can be what JC tells. And he wants to show that. Best if he has real players.

    My forecast:

15 May 2017. Or at least calendar week 20.
