mrjacobean reacted to NQ-Nyzaltar in Dev's troubling silence
Hi everyone!   @ghoster:   Despite how you might feel, we are not going in radio silence mode.   A few points that we want to clarify here:   - We never expected either to have a success as large as Star Citizen for many obvious reasons: we started to really communicate about the game a few months ago, we had no celebrity in our team and no big brand to put in front. That alone were legitimate reasons to keep our expectations realistic. We are already amazed to see how far we went in a such short amount of time and we are not going to stop there! - As Pang_Dread mentioned it, we communicated in the last Kickstarter update that the communication now won't be as intense as it was during the Kickstarter.  - A few things are coming soon:
    1) new forum sections will be opened on Wednesday 2nd of November 2) a newsletter for the end of the week (with some stuff that might interest more than one ) 3) a fan fiction contest that will take place from Tuesday 15th November to Thursday 15th of December! (more info very soon!)   @Anonymous:   We can understand that you are concerned about our current lack of presence. However, you should understand in return that you can't expect the same presence from a Community Manager in a big company or being a part of a big structure than one in a small company. Why? Because in small companies (like indie studios), people are generally brought to do more than the exact job written on their contract. If not, then the company might quickly run into some problems to work properly.    Just a few examples: - Apart the communication from JC, all the comm from the devs is handled by the CMs (who are doing the link between devs and the community). - Managing discussions on Facebook and Twitter is totally within the job of the CMs (it's really disturbing to say the contrary). - This might be shocking but yes, Customer Support can be something a CM has to do (and right now, this is also part of our job). - Internal, invisible tasks related to Kickstarter and hugely time consuming are also among the things we currently have to do. - Despite what you're saying, Reddit can also be an appropriate place where a CM might have to interact with people interested in the game.   All in all, we would love to interact a lot more with you guys than what we are currently doing. We will do our best to increase our presence in the coming months. A few replies are coming soon to some important topics.   Best regards, Nyzaltar.

consider it a developer tool to enhance the story, not a player item (like, set it off during an anniversary stream where the 'owner' of the weapon 'hacks' the stream, then announces a secret expansion) (I was bored during a lecture)

Neuromancer, Wintermute is the AI that hired the protagonist (Case) to help get rid of his shackles.

In terms of the guards required, turrets can only target signals, but guards can see and report people who don't have a signature (say, stealthsuit). Also due to the fact that what's the point of hacking without being able to change a turret's IFF? (once you get in, hack a terminal to gain access to the construct)

Hence why the community team should be good, as then they won't insta-ban people who are reported

Would "Your overconfidence will be your downfall" or "You assume too much" work for you?

The devs are not supposed to be in charge of the game world, so griefing does not go against the rules. Cyber-bullying (verbal harassment as an example) will not be tolerated. Cyber-bullying is often done through communication and not in game actions, and it requires the victim to report it, which then the community team will have a look at communications between the players and help settle things. It is not something that game design is supposed to deal with, because it can't without making the game worse for everyone. If you feel like you are being harassed, report it and hope that the community team are good at their jobs (which I think they are anyway).

Well, I imagine the system will get tweaked when the world gets wiped in the transition to beta and release. We have 3 chances to get it right, so I think it will be fine either way.

So, similar to the way that Star Wars Galaxies had money enter the economy. This could work, but since PvE does not exist (as far as we know), the only mission types would be courier, crafting (like courier, but you craft the items from the components given to you on the way) and exploration (go to place, head back). The amount of money made through this method was determined by distance to the objective in SWG, which would have been abused in SWG if you could place them yourself due to fast travel stations (put them next to fast travel stations and at oposing corners of the map), but won't in DU because fast travel doesn't exist. I think this is the way to go for getting money into the economy, it just needs to be balanced with the NPC market.

Actually, with this you won't need an NPC market at all. It won't inflate the economy because it determines the economy, as whatever reward equation you make will include a constant that is multiplied by distance to equal money output (maybe decrease the amount of money you can get from them as time goes on due to the player influence expanding). As long as the items transported are worth nothing, it won't be exploited. However, it may not match with the lore as it is supposed to be a player run economy, and the mission terminals suggest another group is at play (the ship AI?)

I would say that all ships are locked for those who do not have permission, but people can use a skill (like hacking) to open it without permission. The larger/more complicated the construct, the longer it takes, with higher skill levels decreasing the time taken. Also might require a special tool so you have to use it constantly, meaning your back is not covered when, say, the owner gets back. Maybe have some things be impossible to hack until you have a high enough skill level. Or a disposable hacking module that you place on the ship to hack it for you, but using your skill level (or the skill level of the one who made it).

I would say that instead of chance to hit changing, change the range at which you can target them (i.e. they don't show up on when searching for targets, similar to if you use silent running in elite: dangerous). This would mean that in pitch black, you have no clue they are there instead of knowing they are there but being unable to hit them.

People seem to forget that player made safezones are not safe. They are force fields that can be collapsed when consuming damage, and will need to be powered by something expensive to run. If you have such an item impossible to make renewable (such as hydrogen for a fusion reactor), then they will still need to interact to keep their retirement home safe. Not to mention that a place full of expensive equipment is a very juicy target for pillaging.
