Anyone else taking time off work for Pre-Alpha?
Saul Retav replied to yamamushi's topic in General Discussions
"Take time off?" Heck, I'm tempted to sell my investments to get a decent computer for this... still undecided on that. (1 hr later) thought about and that would be stupid. I'll just wait until beta. =( -
Planets running out of resources?
Saul Retav replied to Tiberio Octavio's topic in General Discussions
Scavenging could become a good way to make a quick buck. Players sitting at the edge of a conflict, waiting for the battle to die down so they can swoop in and take what they can.- 81 replies

DU Politics - Current State of Affairs
Saul Retav replied to Saul Retav's topic in General Discussions
Well then, it's a good thing this chart is only for "official" political ties; it's meant only as a general overview of inter-organizational politics. All of the connections displayed are sourced from information made public by the orgs represented. And even if I knew of secret alliances or private dealings I would not reveal them on this public chart. You do have a good point that size does not necessarily translate to power or influence. So, upon request, I'll consider adding specified orgs with fewer members. If you have any suggestions on how this public chart could be improved, feel free to share.- 40 replies

Ideology and Censorship in Organizations
Saul Retav replied to Stryker99909's topic in General Discussions
I think they said that when it comes to general troll garbage like that, it'll be up to the players to dish out the punishments. Which is fine with me. I can't wait to see some trolls get wasted! But, of course, it will also depend on which communities you hang out with. Some will probably ban that stuff, others may not care. -

I think it's going to be difficult enough to make enough to buy a DAC that it wont be happening in trial accounts.- 81 replies

Planets running out of resources?

Well, that's the plan. If Alioth is destroyed by mining, I'll start an environmental non-profit to save it.- 81 replies

Planets running out of resources?
Saul Retav replied to Tiberio Octavio's topic in General Discussions
Yeah, many players, like myself, aren't too excited to be mining all day. I'll be entering the game with some extra DACs so, provided I can sell some early on, I'll have plenty of quanta to buy what I need from both players and bots. I also expect the density of standard ores will be higher than 1%.- 81 replies

AND any kind of substances to make you feel better (junk food, drugs, porn, Netflix binges, etc.) will only make your depression worse and are often an underlying cause of depression. edit: and I do have some savings, so I can afford to eat for a while.

Planets running out of resources?
Saul Retav replied to Tiberio Octavio's topic in General Discussions
If the terrestrial ecology is made valuable enough, then major mining operations will be exported by governing orgs to more desolate, mineral-rich planets and moons.- 81 replies

@CaptainTwerkmotor So Arkzones, as neutral territory, will allow anyone to do anything in them except what? fire weapons and take damage? Basically a safe, unstructured sandbox for noobs to learn basic game mechanics, right?

From Eve to DU - Endless Possibilities (article)

True, I didn't consider how their whole economy is based on war. DU should be light-years ahead of EVE in its variety of activities and player motivations.- 28 replies

(I think I'm allowed to post this... ) If your not a veteran of Eve Online and you want to be even more super excited for Dual Universe, you should read this beautiful, heart-wrenching article about the classic sandbox MMO; it makes the possibilities for DU seem that much more incredible. And after reading about all of the incredible feats of leadership, skill, teamwork, and cunning... I'll probably end up a homeless hitchhiker bouncing around between territories... Oh well! (Maybe I'll write a book: Hitchhiker's Guide to Dual Universe)

@Lethys I see. So you take issue specifically with skill-gain buffs. Sure, I guess those would be unnecessary. What about just balanced stat buffs/debuffs (armor, speed, health, etc.)? What about skill-based buffs that don't affect speed of advancement, but just add temporary modifiers (slightly increased engineering skill while equipped, but otherwise natural skill is unaffected)?

Secret Organizations/Societies (or lack thereof)
Saul Retav replied to Saul Retav's topic in General Discussions
Okay. I am not the Illuminati, obviously. I shouldn't have even mentioned secret societies (as that illicits preconceived notions of the purpose of my post). Let me word it differently: It would be great if orgs hosted on the community portal could choose to not display all of their member's names, right? That way it would be easier for people to be involved in controversial orgs without advertising their involvement. Disregarding the definition of a "secret society," this was the essence of my post:- 25 replies

Secret Organizations/Societies (or lack thereof)
Saul Retav replied to Saul Retav's topic in General Discussions
A secret org with different tiers of membership could be open for anyone to join, noobs would just start on the lowest tier until they can prove themselves worthy, essentially functioning like any company does. The difference of course, is that a regular company doesn't have to hide identities from it's own employees; but that too could be facilitated with tiered management (noobs know nothing more than their assignments, managers only know who their managing, and so on.).- 25 replies
