    Just STFU.

    1st I was here on alpha 2.

2nd To have an opinion all i need is to have a game account.

3nd you are equal to all players not more or less than everyone.

same with you, and more people want the nebula removed or at very least altered.  Sorry for you to hear this, but the game isnt about you.  But keep crying and making up stuff about crashing because you cant "see" which has never been a thing.

All hail the master of all facts! All hail the great @VandelayIndustries.

He alone can determine what are facts relevant for this discussion and what are not.

If you find usefull seeing the outline of a station when aproaching it from its dark side, hide that fact. Because that fact is not approved by the great @VandelayIndustries.

And therefore is not a fact.

If you just joined the game struggled to make a basic ship to meet with your friend on another planet, spent hours traveling, and before you can land safely, you colide, die and spawn back on Alioth, its because you are a noob that deserved it. And if you ragequit its because this game is not for you. Because you are not like the great @VandelayIndustries

Exactly.  Someone who didn't play during A1 or A2.  Therefor no room to talk, because you are making up stuff that isn't there.

Thats the number one thing you hear from new players, is they cant see.  So laughable how delusional you are.

The current nebula is pretty good designed since its evenly without some spots which are too penetrant or something. It basically fits in every scene.

I just would prefer to have less of a cyan tone and make it more "neutral" so to say.
At the screenshot i have attached (After and before) i reduced the cyan tone by 70% and made it a bit darker.
If i would make a spacegame i would make it like that.

The glowing stones are a whole different story tho. :D

Yours does look infinitely better.  Id like the stars to be more prominent since that loos like u on a moon so no atmosphere blocking vision.  And ya the rocks are the worse thing i probably seen in a game visual wise.

The people have spoken NQ,  Nebula has got to go.

You attract more players if you make DU more forgiving for noob mistakes.

Needing a radar to not colide is not noob friendly.

Then make alioth 0.1 gravity. So they crash less.  You keep saying removing the nebula will make people crash.  It doesn't.  Sounds like you only played during alpha 3 when it went to $60 to get in.  I flew every test session during A1 and A2 never wrecked.  People wreck from rendering issues, or inexperience, or lack of talents flying heavy cargo.  Not because they cant "see something".  Those are facts.

If you like the nebula because u think it looks good thats opinion and fine whatever.  But trying to make shit up to prove your view of aesthetics makes you come off really bad.

Ask what it fits your taste. But ask it as an option that others can opt out.

Does not make any sense to for your taste into others.

I have no problem if there is a toggle option.  Same way there should be a toggle option for those ABOMINATION of glow rocks on every surface of the game.  the bare minimum would be a toggle option and be ok but NQ doesnt care about their game.  Making it look good while also "being good" attracts new customers.  Not saying the looks and asthetics are the only thing, but when i backed in alpha 1 i watched all the youtube videos i could and the game looked like a space game, and looked AMAZING to me leaving a planet and flying in space.  That can matter to attract new people.  Now you need legit gameplay to keep them.  But immersion always helps, and i felt more "immersed" during alpha then I do now.

It does not matter what you do and how you play the game. The world does not rotate around you, your game play and your tastes.......

    It does prevent colisions.

It prevents colisions on ppl that cannot afford a radar or dont know how to use it (new players)

It shows the size and shape of a space station, preventing colisions on aproach.

wrong it doesn't.  You act like the old skybox was pitch black, it was not.  Im guessing you didnt play during alpha 1 or 2.

  7. 4 minutes ago, joaocordeiro said:

Its not up to you to decide this.

Many players feel that the nebula does its job and preventing collisions.

Also, i agree there should be a OPTION in the config menu to change it back to black.

But im 100% against just removing it.

it doesnt prevent collisions though.  I never collided with stuff all through alpha.  Thats a cop out.  You use your radar when flying at any meaningful speed.  So once again you argument is null and void.

Those are LONG EXPOSURE photographs, mostly made with Hubble Palette (which BTW is not how they really look like, the hubble palette uses false colors).
To get faint nebulae and galaxies to be visible like in those photos you need to do long exposure photography (I usually do 4 x 4 hours) in order to gather enough light to actually be able to SEE anything.
With your naked eye all you would see is BLACKNESS.

The nebula has nothing to with realism or decoration.

The nebula was added to create some contrast between the dark part of space stations and the darkness of space.

of a dense (light blocking levels) gas nebula, you will see the nebula it self being illuminated instead of far away stars.

And it looks like trash.  And that view is held by MANY people. Im also not talking about realism.  Im talking about what looks good, and what "feels immersive" and the old sky box looked amazing.  As many people here have stated.  And the problems of people running into stuff were over stated.  Also, if you wanna go that route lets look at what NQ has said about all those COOL SPACE ELEVATORS people would run into.  Use a radar NQ said.  So use a radar if u are running into a space station.   So now that we got that all cleared out, its time for them to remove the nebula.

Why is "Deckard" writing this in Discord and not here? ...

And, btw, that is a RED HERRING what he is doing.

And to answer his question: Yes, I have looked into space without light pollution - I am an astronomer and an astrophotographer. And space is dark, really really dark - in fact, mostly pitch black.
He KNOWS we are not talking about having a completely black space as in: no stars and so .... but he is playing dumb, and that is, quite frankly, demeaning.

100% its demeaning. Especially since we are also mainly talking about the old sky box that worked just fine in alpha.  Their problems were the other lighting from elements and other things that needed tweaks development.   They are deflecting and making it seem like all or nothing.  Its quite rude to say because we enjoyed the immersion of the old skybox and not the crappy nebula, that we want some pitch black like turning off your monitor.  Honestly their attitude about legitimate feedback of their game is really really shitty.

Not to mention, its kind of like a compliment when we say we want the old skybox back. We are saying you guys NAILED it the first time, and only minor tweaks might be needed for the dark areas or tweaks with how element lighting works.

images from a crazy engineered telescope are not the same as your naked eye on the moon.  Oh, you are telling me you arent smart enough to understand the difference between looking at something with the naked eye and thru a telescope?  Do you think everyone in DU running around with a telescope.....LOL

  12. image.png.7b967351968dbaee072981bcf757b5a9.png

No one is asking for complete blackness, and your lighting issues existin tandem with the nebula.

Have to think of the right way to word it, but basically the old skybox worked just fine and people loved it.  So why is he talking about total blackness that's not what people are saying? Their lighting system is still trash with the nebula it just ads a green glow that is stupid.  Literally the only old complaint was moons around alioth on the dark side were "really dark" and people crashed...but so what it was easy to not crash once u understood the elevation and payed attention when u fly, And moons suck for everything so not like people were going there in droves,  it was just back in early Alpha there was no sanctuary, so EVERY newbie that finally built a ship capable of going to space and warp wasn't in the game....guess where their first destination was? The moon, And many were inexperienced so crashed, not just because they went to the dark side, but didn't use space breaks, flew 8k speed not knowing they couldn't slow down in time, etc  So a very small minority complained it was the lightning was to blame, which it wasn't 99% of time.
Literally everyone first space flight was to the moon in Alpha, every thing else was 1-4 hours away, so as a newbie moon made logical sense.

  13. A+ on all your points,  The shitty skybox is the easiest thing they can change but knowing NQ i very well doubt it.  I cant believe they changed it in alpha.  There is no way someone could think the nebula looks good compared to the old skybox they had.

As far as civilization building game, ive said this for a long time, its not.  There is no civilization when everything is done by yourself.  No reason for cities, no reasons to explore, no reasons to take precautions or have risk traveling to an outer ice planet looking for rare ores.  Everything is safe, your avatar never dies.  All around just terrible.  NQ really needs to watch this video.  But the only actual hope we have in reality is if NQ loses the rights to DU and another company steps in to develop it and make an actual game.  NQ has proved incompetent time and time again.  As shown with something as simple as fucking up the skybox.

Right! Damn was it something when I first witnessed the sun set on Alioth. It was magical to see night. Really gave me that classic Star Trek/Star Wars vibe and hooked me just like you.

Exactly. For me it was the first trip to the moon.  Then landing and looking out at all the stars and darkness of space.  And seeing alioth glowing there.  It just had a feel to it that wasn't cartoony at all.  It just felt "right".

I'm so glad I'm not alone in this!

I hope that someone from NQ at least reads this. And if they do, I'd love it if they replied just to let us know where they're at. I know that this is probably a minor change in the grand scheme of things, but since the engine supported this type of lighting at some point, I don't think it would be too challenging to revert it, at least internally to try it out.

We're all human, and these simple artistic changes can make a massive impact on players, far larger than one might expect. I truly believe you guys would attract more players from this. The world you're creating is meant to be emergent in its nature, with no set form, for the players to define, and to hold as diverse of a playerbase as possible. In theory, you'd want a skybox that compliments that — one that is beautiful and compliments any scenery (because it's black and realistic). Yet, as it is like a blank canvas and is open to interpretation, it doesn't push for any specific style, leaving a more organic and natural style the universe and its planets emergently develop if that makes any sense. Plus, it would draw in those who look for realism in games.

I think this skybox would compliment any scene, enhance immersion, be consistent with Dual Universe's vision and wouldn't even affect gameplay. I think it's one of those things that a lot of people want, but never actually ask for because it's purely aesthetic, so NQ never really knows the community wants it in the first place.

I also think a lot of people currently playing the game were also not around back during Alpha 2 when we had the old amazing dark skybox and no glow rocks scattered all over the surface.  It was one thing that hooked me instantly.  The "feel" was just damn good for a sci-fi space game.  Like you said, its really such a small change that would have only positive effects for the game, and the immersion.

At the very least, put it on the PTSD server so people can see.

Completely agree, seems like a no brainer.

They also need to add some complexity, things like stealth, jamming, slowing mechanics.

Exactly, the speed modification is just the beginning, to get things kickstarted to put some differences between the cores, so you can add more interesting things in later like you described to vary the combat situations, and how and when combat and evasion can happen. etc

    True, but what about Jago?

It's one of the planet where multiple streamer have put their base. I am not a pro/cons streamer but their are promoting games.
Killing this planet mean you are doing yourself a bad reputation. Who like to move his base?

And what the purpose of adding threes there and making it more pleasant if you removing the possibility to live on it?

I am not talking about my gameplay, I am setup on Alioth. But I want the game to succeed and this type of decision is only killing the game.

Looks like this might call for a wipe.
