Yes, that was also my impression until NQ-Sesch said something to the effect of  "until release in some months" in the Demeter video.  Not sure if it was an actual slip, or just me putting meaning into something he said out of context.

So you were basically just making stuff up then?  and they HAVEN'T said or even hinted it will be launched this year?

Like I said before, not sure why everyone is so invested in a game that hasnt actually launched, very odd.

In addition to the excellent points made by LordVlad, this change as it's currently on PTS will not only render a vast majority of ships useless,

"Vast majority", where is your proof of this?

This isnt going to effect any of our ships (as long as they sort the direction of resistance out, that MUST be a mistake lol), nor is the stacking fix?

@Kobayashi I just answered you in the other thread, but I will do the same here also.

NQ has strongly hinted that the game will be released by the end of this year. So Demeter going live is pretty much going to be the "finished" game they are going to release.

Is the game ready to be released? No, not even close. But as mentioned, NQ has been going in circles for many years now, and they are running out of money.

Arent you one of those that said NQ had run out of money before though?  Seem to remember when JC left, that you and several others declared NQ bankrupt and said it would all be sold off.  6 months later, development has continued (you could argue it has improved) and they dont seem to have run out of money at all. Why should I listen to you now, when you are generally wrong in your predictions?

Also, got no idea where you get that the launch will be the end of the year, I would be VERY surprised if they launch without some of the key gameplay elements that are still missing.

I am sorry to burst your bubble, but NQ has been dropping hints about a release by the end of this year.

And at the pace of development we have come to expect from NQ, that means Demeter going live will be the launch release..

Really?  Must have missed those 'hints', arent we already at the end of the year?  Fancy a bet?  I dont think there is any chance that Demeter is the launch release.

Games die before going live all the time....it's extremely common.

And it's been in development for 7+ years now, it isn't like this is some brand new thing that just hit beta and is still early in the dev process.

Ok just saying that 80% of the people I know who could enjoy this game, either dont really know about it or havent played it (wont sub a beta).  I wont recommend it yet, whilst I enjoy it, I know it is not ready for most of my friends (getting there though).  It has not had any sort of Steam launch or Epic etc  Presuming because NQ dont think it is ready for that, look at Starbase.  The people who are here are the early adopters but could probably ALL quit and the game could still be launched, as long as NQ has the funded to complete development.  The fact they havent dumped on Steam or similar suggests that could be the case.

I have only ever played the game causally, because it is a beta, I dont recommend it because it is a beta, ok, I understand that some players have gone hardcore and that is their choice but I strongly doubt that more than 10% of the potential market has tried the game.  As I said, think some people need to get over themselves a bit and look longer term.

Not going to re-sub just to save items in a game that is likely to die after this patch goes live.  The people that think this is great because of all the salvaging are not thinking this through.  Short term fun at the cost of paying players returning.  Game over.

Going to ask this again, how can a game die which is not even live yet?  Some people on here need to get over themselves, you are beta testers lol

Hey NQ, for future reference, when you make a rule change like this - forcing some of us to go around with a few days notice and remove constructs from a bunch of markets - it would be neat if you also gave us some tools to make deconstructing and fetching a bunch of constructs easier, e.g.: a 'deconstruct' option that just collapses a construct into parts/materials in inventory instead of having to go around and remove each element, and do a bunch of honeycomb select/cut. And remove the 24 hr cap and 4k range limit on 'fetch' for a few days.

PvPers will love that, when people start deconstructing to avoid combat.

No idea where they are needed for, to frustrate people? hold them back? money sink? Because decent development of a research approach to crafting was never tried? Because nanananana? till this day i have not seen a single reason why they are needed that makes sence.

But apparently the schematics were needed more then a few thousand alpha players who really stopped playing in the week following the introduction. And all is well with a good reason or explanation, but none is given.

They were needed to stop player trying to make everything themselves, in stupid massive super factories, like this is Factorio not an MMO.  It worked, a lot more people now buy stuff rather than trying to solo it all.

Whilst I dont think they were the best solution, I do think it achieved the required results.

Ok thank you for the answers. Seems that its not possible for a single-player to enjoy asteriod mining. Thats really bad because im sick of moving my 3 territory-scanners hundreds of times over the different planets and finding as good as nothing from t4 to t5 ores. I played the game 2 months nearly 24/7, enjoyed it, but now im at a point, where i think its not fun anymore...

Weirdly, i have played the game since early alpha and never felt the need to mine t4/5, what are you using them for?

I went to a trade port on Sanctuary Moon and saw about 200 speeders parked there.  Does that mean anything?  There were definitely people running around once I went up the ramp.

Dont listen to a lot of people on this forum, a large number of them dont actually play the game, the quit a while ago and have been posting the same negative stuff on here for ages.  The population is ok for where the game is development wise, pretty sure that NQ will have a plan to get people in when the time is right.

  11. 10 hours ago, Haunty said:

Yeah, don't need to worry about population until after release when it is ready to be advertised. This is the normal population, the beta release rush was the anomaly of people wanting to try the game out. The game's definitely not ready to hold much of a subscriber base.

I actually think the game is getting a lot closer to being ready.  Despite what some people say on here (who I dont believe have actually played the game in some time), recent updates have made a big difference and with what appears to be in the roadmap for the next few patches, I think we might have a game I would be happy to recommend soon.

Not really, just taking a hiatus to play other games. This game will take a backseat for a while.

Do yourself a favour, if you leave, dont stink us this forum like that majority of bitter vets around.

This basicly what torments me with whole this DU discussions -- they can fix bugs, balance, add (some) content even, nice, but how game will be able to rekindle lost momentum in terms of population? Because all we know how empty MMOs vulnerable and how hards its to reverse bad trending of self-fulfiling prophecy -- of "dying" game. This makes me bit pessimistic, so I see wipe as sort of "last hope magical button", its probably not, but I just have no any other realistic idea how it can be done. DU seems to be beyond salvation by gradual improvment, some sort of shock therapy tempting.

Maybe new system on release, that blocked from older players, but they just start making alts like crazy, so not sure how its end up.

You are completely underestimating the market of the game and the number of people that actually know about it.  I must have 15-20 people who I am waiting to recommend the game to once it is ready.  I joined my old Mech Warriors clan the other day for a catch up, not a single one of them had heard of it. The game hasnt launched on Steam (which we have no idea if it is on the cards).  I still dont really see the game as live yet, so certainly not going to pronounce it dead.

I have posted many many times on this  we should not have to have 80 engines or 100 wings / any other element on a ship to make it function properly.

You also have to define "function properly" I dont agree that there should be no limit to the amount you can haul, as many people thinkj.   For me, people putting 100 wings on a ship suggest you are trying to lift too much weight.  Just an opinion.

I am hoping this will all change with energy.

Starbase is telling this game “I’ll drink your milkshake”.   There’s only so many people that are interested in space building games, that have the disadvantages of an MMO, aren’t free, and are Early Access.

already has mining from ships, a far more balanced PvP v. PvE system, and PvP is outstanding compared to this game.  (Also only two crashes in 60 hours).

Was just pointing out that the graph shown was some of the poorest use of Google search data I have ever seen, the biggest spike is for something completely different.

I played a bit of SB, it was ok, was all a bit too mecano for my taste, will keep an eye on it.

Yes it was a soft wipe of sorts all previous combat ships are useless now. And all effort put on them was a waste of time.

If you are designing ANY combat ships around the current combat mechanics of course you are going to have to rebuild them lol.  Did you think pvp was going to stay the same?

PvP is far from finished, what was meta yesterday wont be today.  What is meta today, wont be tomorrow.  Get used to it for a while.

  16. Really confused, I have been mining high tier ore since roids came out..... because it is still in the ground.  Nothing is gated by pvp at all, and the game is VERY easy to make money in without pvp.  You can pick up elements at D6 move them 100km and sell them at twice the price.

We havent even bothered with roids yet, no need to do them at the moment.

  17. The issue with DU is that it will find bottlenecks in your system.  I dont really have many issues with freezes but my best mate who I play DU with had big issues with even though his computer is a superior spec to mine.  He saw big improvements when he

    • Moved his cache onto a different HD from the game - this helps as the game has to access cache a LOT when you revisit busy areas
    • Hardwiring his internet connection - his was previously playing on wifi, this can bottleneck transfer of data from the server

He now gets limited lag within busy zones, can fly in and land on D6 with limited issues.

The big issue with Geforce Now is that you play on a new machine every time you log in, so you will not have any cache.  Caching is vital for performance (why you should avoid deleting it wherever possible)

  18. I would argue the returns for missions, especially is you can get a group of players, massively outweighs any risk.  Complete a couple of missions drops and you are sorted.  I like all the logistics of it, we have different ships to move the packs into space, to our space platforms we have over most planets, then use low cost space only ships to run the missions to platforms at the other end.  We have bases everywhere, different locations, a factory, massive commercial zone, just building some cool new ships shops in a massive lake.  Just loads of stuff going on, but as i said, I have never seen the need for having to mine, i also dont feel the need to always be making money from activity.  I could quite happily fly around a race track or visit a casino whilst in game.

I actually agree with you but, my point was they are quitting because there is nothing in the game THEY find in enjoyable and this is why they quit.  It's great that YOU (and me too btw) still find stuff to do in the game.  However, I'm not sure there will be enough "me and yous" in the game to financially support the game without more to do in the game.  At this point even I can see a point in the near future were the game will grow stale.

I have been here since early alpha, have quit the game on several occasions, always planned to come back.  Personally i am enjoying the game more than ever at the moment, but there are a lot of opportunities that fit my playstyle.  I have always played the markets, and that is good fun right now.  I also enjoy missions, I can always find things to do whilst slowboating and i actually like the fact there is some risk involved, i would like to see more.

Regarding ore, I think autominers (on top of whatever they have planned for roids) will stabilise the economy again.  I would remove the ability to hand in missions using VR as well or put a pack limit per ship on based on core size.  To slow down the rampant increase in quanta.

Weird thing is, I rarely mine, if ever.  Neither does the person I play with.

  20. 1 minute ago, Kruzer said:

Utter nonsense.  The jump in ore prices was directly due to the large dump of quanta in the game from the mission system.  Good god, the prices jumped LESS THAN 48 hours after the missions dropped and minted instant billionaires.  This is a classic step change to an obvious input.  This is sun in the sky obvious stuff.  And, you don't even have to be educated to see it, just not stupid.

Yes, there are lots of players that don't want to mine and for months before the missions ore was cheap.  The point remains there isn't much else to do in the game.  The combat mechanic is ass, and building sandcastles can only amuse for so long.

The asteroid update is just the same old planetary mining on a smaller scale.  This game needs something to drive conflict, it needs resources or territory to fight over.  If there is a reason to PvP beyond just being a dick, PvP activity will rocket regardless of the terrible mechanic.

I will always argue with people who say there is nothing to do in game, that really depends on your playstyle.  For players that enjoy sandbox / community games there is a lot to do, I find myself having TOO MUCH to do and not enough time.  I do agree though, for players who need content generated for them, the game needs a bit more.
