  1. A lot of you guys have been asking for NPC enemies in space to fight against. I see why you would want that added, but in my opinion they won't be worth the dev time. Here are some counter arguments:

    1. Novaquarks intentions with the game is to have a "common, shared virtual world, controlled by the players." Adding a second party of aliens / other humans breaks this rule.
    2. Unlike in EvE, movement is (relatively) much slower, which means that escaping danger is a lot harder, especially if you don't have much thrust. That may be good for PvP lovers, but could be an unescapable death sentence for unlucky haulers, which brings me to my next point:
    3. Having enemies scattered in space further encourages players to warp to their destination, making pirating (and counter-pirating) even harder since there will be nobody to fight. Even if NPC's are restricted to certain areas like asteroids will be, most haulers would rather warp than risk bumping into one and dying.
    4. With the way that PvP works, NPC's would have to match the damage of L cores if they want to have a chance against them, meaning that <L cores will have a hard time fighting , if they don't just simply die in one shot. The cost of running, fueling, and repairing L core constructs can cost in the millions, and so unless every NPC is carrying 10kl of gold nuggets or something it will be a net loss trying to fight them, not to mention the 50-100 million paywall to get a good L core in the first place. Unless you are in a specialised org, you will be mining for many hours to get a good PvE ship in the first place, so what's the point?

Thank you for coming to my TED talk.

So turning asteroid mining into an event and broadcasting to everyone where it is.  Well there went my "looking forward" to asteroid mining.

I was hoping they would just randomly respawn in space and you would have to find them and just have ships guard the miners while they mine.......

well, It's on a timer so I guess it depends on how long it takes before everyone knows where you are. And you can always bring an escort with you...

  3. [This post is wrong, I thought that the damage multipliers were 8x and not 2x. feels like 8x though and I still think it needs nerfing, just maybe to 1.5x instead?]

    The problem

If an M core wanted to fight against an L core , there would have to be a fleet of at least eight of them to match the damage of an L core.

However, if you wanted to use XS cores to fight against an L core, you would need 512 of them, which would be so impractical that it is basically impossible. You would need to coordinate, train, and set RDMS for a fleet half the size of the empire, all of which would have to be active at the exact same time, to close in and fire on the enemy without crashing into each other to even get a chance of killing them, not to mention the server issues or lag you would get from trying.

    My proposal is this:

Instead of the 8x damage multipliers that weapons have currently, each weapon size up is replaced with a 2x damage multiplier.

This would make it so that an M core can be beaten by an L core, but an L core can be beaten by 2 M cores, and so on.

L cores would still have the same damage output as before, M cores 2 times less, S cores 4 times less and XS 8 times less.

So instead of the 512 XS ships needed to kill an L core, you would only need 8. That may not seem by a lot, but since most L core ships usually have a much smaller crew size of about 4 people, and XS cores are usually destroyed in one hit, I think it balances the core sizes out more evenly.

Range would be similar, but perhaps to a lesser extent, otherwise L cores would blow up smaller sizes before they get in range. You could even affect it negatively, meaning that XS cores would have a much longer range than L cores if you wanted to spice things up a little.

Adding this could make PvP way more fun really easily, and would add more strategy into the game.

If you ever happen to read this NQ, I would love to hear your thoughts :D

  4. For a long time before Dual, I was on a constant search for good 3D multiplayer vehicle building games. Unfortunately, these types of games were very sparse and rarely any good, either being PTW like Crossout or dead like Robocraft. At the time I was also interested in eve online, and wondered what it would look like if the two genres were combined (I think you can see where this is going), so when I saw Dual Universe I instantly fell in love with it. At the time the game was still under NDA, around the time of early alpha. I'm pretty sure I watched every video on the official channel, and couldn't wait until it released. At the time the estimate for how much a sub would cost was like 20$ (and I was too poor to buy alpha access) so I was unsure if it was worth buying.

I lost track of the game, until the first few months of beta started when I saw it again. When I found out that the price for a sub was 8$ instead of 20, I decided to buy it. However, since my computer was below minimum spec, my game tanked as soon as I opened up the game. My starting moments were a slideshow with constant crashes, which made me concerned that I might not be able to play the game. However, my determination to play (and not wanting to waste the 3 month sub) made me persevere. By looking at the ground and facing away from the many ships that were parked there, I was finally able to make it to the shuttle service and escape to sanctuary, which was a lot smoother. For some reason I would never get lag on that scale ever again, even when returning to the very market I spawned on.

I would say my best moments were going across the ground with my speeder, which I kinda miss nowadays because I usually just fly. Seeing all the other bases , factories, and ships that other people made when speeding across the desert to my house was really cool, and it is kinda a shame that flying is the way to go nowadays. Maybe making ground hauling safer and more economical could make that experience viable, but who knows.

my other highlights were taking the longer-than-expected slowboat to thades where I landed on an asteroid and mined on its moon, when I used a warp drive for the first time to haul everything I had to Jago, finding my first meganode (mining it was another story), , and when I dramatically flew a few meters past a moving hauler on my way to escape the atmosphere.

    (sorry for the long post)

  5. Unfortunately the technology isn't quite there yet to have roads and wheels and stuff like that. It is technically possible, but having wheels is much more unreliable than hovers since wheels demand proper collisions and hovers only need a simple height check. Even if they did work; people would just use hovers anyway, so there isn't much of a point. In terms of rotors, motors and pistons, NQ have stated that it is technically possible, but since moving elements don't really present that many gameplay changes (along with the potential performance issues it could bring) it would take too much dev time to be worth working on. Who knows though, we might get them. Just don't count on it happening, as i'm sure NQ is busy with other features right now.

Sorry, but this is just the next iteration of "we heard you"

There is nothing substantial in this post, it does not commit to anything and just reiterates how NQ has failed to listen (which is not the same as hearing in case you wonder) to what their community is telling them.

That hey seem to think that much changed from Alpha is frankly very funny as they have just continued their attitude and ways from there with little to no change, that they seem to think or try to make the claim they did is probably the most worrying aspect of this post.

The proof wil be in the pudding here but based on the many previous attempts by NQ to spin their mistakes and shortfalls by not really taking ownership but pretend they will doe snot give me much hope for change.. But we'll see

oh come on, give NQ a break. I understand your concerns, but it's pretty clear that they have learnt their lesson by now. We all know that they are a good company at heart.

  7. Now you all might just think that this is an easy question. "Just do it like how it is done in EvE!" but unfortunately it isn't that easy. EvE balances out the power of large ships with the maneuverability of smaller ones, making large ships hard to shoot small ships that are orbiting them. In Dual, a few problems arrive if you tried to do this. firstly; unlike in EvE where people mostly maneuver by commands instructed by the player,  in DU everything is controlled completely by keyboard input, meaning that large ships can just turn to face towards their target and have no tracking issues. (yes, I know you can do that in EvE too, but it's so niche and situational I wouldn't be surprised if 1/2 of the EvE community didn't know about it) Secondly, ships cannot reliably get in the close range that EvE ships can, since the current server limitations mean that desync happens very often unless you are very close or very far. NQ could try to fix these issues, but I doubt that it could ever be as silky smooth as EvE. Third, (imo this one should be changed) the current damage output of larger ships is so vast that it is basically pointless to try making anything small. with most non L core ships, its one shot and then you're dead, no competition.

Reverting back to what it was where any core unit could use L guns is not a viable solution either. All that is really doing is pushing the problem to one side, as now any non L gun has become (even more) pointless, as well as bringing a resurgence of cube ships, which I don't think anybody wants.

And although there may be some clever solutions to get over this issue, the truth is anything which isn't max core size is just not sufficient enough to stand a chance right now.

any ideas on how to fix this guys?

I would suggest correcting the title as this is not an Anime loop.. I could see Anime fans making a claim of this being clickbait which, frankly speaking, is not entirely unjustified.

I think by 'Anime' it is a mistranslation from the French "Anime" for "cartoons" and the English "Anime" for Japanese cartoons.

What can I say that others haven't already...

how much more can one out of a growing number of people drive the point home that NQ's management is just ... about the worst thing that's happening to this game.

of all the things to put your efforts on, it had to be better GFX, prettier rocks, a jet pack toggle...

Things that are nice to have instead of the shit that the game needs to turn it around?

Who ever is in charge of project management at Novaquark should be FIRED

Don't forget about the org wallets, mission system and building features that they are adding. They have even started work on fixing market lag. we requested those features to NQ, and they gave them back. This just seems like being angry for the sake of being angry.

PS: Some people are genuinely turned off from the game because of the graphics, and I quote: "Ohh man, the terrain graphics are terrible"  "The graphics are cringe."  "this gamelooks bad rofl"  "I really can't tell if this game looks great, or really terrible!" "The terrain looks appalling, what a load of jank lol"  "What's with the C64 graphics?"  among many others.

I just wonder how much work it took on their part, over all those months.

How much mining did they do?  How much building?  How much setting up infrastructure?

Kinda seems like they helped build an Org, and then kicked everyone else out.

Now they've got an Org worth of stuff, and no Org to play with.

But i guess all those cool points gotta be worth something lol

A LOT of mining. Our org space station alone which was packed to the brim with 4-7 expensive PvP ships, lots of haulers and a ton of shuttles earlier got completely emptied, including non-org ships. Getting back again is gonna take a long time, and the empire military was struggling financially already. He was a trusted friend and almost everyone liked him. he seemed like a really nice guy, but he really did stab us in the backs.

You dont know what the word griefing is, so stop using it. Maybe english is your second language and if that's the case I'll ease up a bit on you.

"A griefer or bad faith player is a player in a multiplayer video game who deliberately irritates and harasses other players within the game, using aspects of the game in unintended ways."

in this case, griefers would be destroying constructs not designed or intended to participate in territory warfare not for financial gain but to piss off all of the people living there.

but I digress. This post is about what you want in an Atmo PvP update, not about some loosely defined internet term.

I will make no more replies to comments in this manner on this post.

  12. 10 hours ago, JohnnyTazer said:

You know someone attacking a territory in a pvp zone specifically built for territory warfare isn't a "griefer". I swear to fucking christ the dumbest mother fuckers come to these forums.

Be nice dude, you really aren't helping here. Cities like freeport which are on teoma are examples of cities that could be griefed.

  13. After the 0.24 update I have a strong prediction that 0.25 will be an atmo/TW PvP update, from videos by NQ and a few hunches. In the rare scenario that I am correct, the update could be a literal game changer. If done right, It could bring a new interest in the game to both old and new players, since it would force orgs to log back in to 'defend their interests', and make the game more lively and exciting. (not to mention all the cool PvP videos that would come out of it). However, if it is done wrong, it would lead to pirates dominating the outer planets, leaving everyone stuck on Alioth until we all eventually starve from the lack of resources. 0.25 truly could either make the game 5 times better or 5 times worse.

Here are my general concerns on what could go wrong in the update:

    • pirates could camp outside markets/territories and blast whoever exits
    • the outer planets would become uninhabitable with pirates raiding every territory they come across
    • nobody would be bothered / no point in territory warfare
    • builds and cities made on the outer planets would get destroyed by griefers
    • it would be too easy to attack / defend a territory

so my question is this. What would you want in an Atmo PvP update?

This is what I have come up with so far:

    1. All of the outer planets are re-seeded. This time, instead of having ores scattered about in small veins and meganodes, ores (along with normal generation) can spawn in MASSIVE meganodes. and I mean MASSIVE. These 'giganodes' (every planet would have 1-10 giganodes) would take months to mine, and many months for solo miners. unlike meganodes, they should also be very easy to spot, maybe even able to be seen on the map, so that territories placed there cannot just lay low and avoid danger. If you want a peice of the giganode cake, you will have to defend it.
    2. Unclaimed territories/ territories which aren't affiliated with your orgs remain safe zones. this makes sure players cannot just camp territories. However, if another org decides to wage war on you (or vice versa) the outer sections of your/ your organisation's territories are now PvP zones. I won't go into the schemantics on how Territory Warfare will work, but as long as you cannot just bury territory units underground I would be fine with it.
    3. The defenders or territory units should have a method of automatically guarding their constructs like reinforcement timers and static construct weapons to those give smaller orgs a fighting chance and stop people from just blowing everything up when they are offline.
    4. Pacifist orgs / orgs that just want to build should have a method which stops other orgs from attacking them, while also making sure they cannot exploit it for financial gain. for example, you could configure your territory unit to enter a 'pacifist mode' where you cannot be attacked but also cannot mine ores there. This also has the upside of allowing for PvP orgs to build up their defences before mining on them. NQ could also make it so that you cannot use industry like this, so that orgs could strategically destroy manufacturing plants. However, because of the current state of industry I do not recommend this.
    5. After leaving a contested PvP territory, your ship will gain a timer where it can still be attacked, even in safe zones, for 2-5 minutes. This makes sure ships cannot just dip in and out of territories to avoid enemy fire.

I will put the final consensus on https://upvote.dualuniverse.game/.

NQ, take notes. Please be nice!

I stopped reading after this.  You are so oblivious to your won ignorance it's scary.  Criticism is not toxicity.  Toxicity is not criticism.  You're just looking for brownie points.  When you try and group the two together, YOU are the problem.

Toxicity is the word of the attention seeker, instigator, and power hungry teenager.

Those of us criticizing the game are frustrated, angry, confused, disheartened, unmotivated... but this is coming from the potential we see in the game.

I have only seen one instance of something that can be called toxic, THIS POST.

    Hypocrisy, much?

I will tell you a story.

When I 1st join this community, several years ago,

I came to this forum and asked NQ for info about if NPCs where going to be a thing.

I specifically said I did not wanted anyone else but NQ to answer me.

Yet some ppl replied with their opinion or interpretation of the information available.

I was really upset that ppl did not respect my wish to see NQ answer it and flipped on some guy, an old timer.

The community all came to me and defended that guy, bashing me for my response to him.

At that time, full of selfishness and afraid that ppl would set me aside I said I was sorry and asked for forgiveness. At that time I did not meant it, I just wanted to contain the situation.

After I did this, all the other guys started to give me some links with the answer I wanted.

Later on that thread, NQ replied. The entire community was quite happy with the new info.

It was much later that I understood that that old timer, and the other guys there replied to me, breaking my request, because they wanted to help me. To give me a reply. To make me a part of the community.

Over the years I have had many debates with those same members from that day. Some times, i disagree with them, sometimes i agree with them.

Sometimes I don't even agree on how they frame their posts.

And I blame some of them for bad choices that NQ did.

But never again I doubted the love they had for this game and for this community.

You may not feel it now.

But if you are still a member of this community in 3 years, I guarantee you that you will regret your choices today. Just like I regret mine that day.

fine. If you feel so inclined, I have now replaced the word 'shit stain' with 'excrement deposit'. hope that helps.

  16. 1 minute ago, Lethys said:

Thats exactly the problem tho. Its just a video and what they want to do. That can change, as you admitted too in another thread. So why take any of that for granted? It's just what they plan to do, but there are no concrete Designs on there and how mechanic x will work. This is just PR, not transparency.

Like I said, they could answer org wallet questions and asked feedback but dont do it anyway.

Testing mechanics on a random test server
doesn't tell you anything about if that mechanic will provide a reliable income or not. That still has to be seen with the live server. And no one knows if those transport missions will reward ppl good money or not

If you go on the test server, graphical improvements, org wallets and the mission system are already implemented. Obviously, what is on the test server is not going to be the final product, But IMO that is better than a concrete design, since that means there is room for change and improvement. They have shown what they will do from now on in the video and they have provided everything they had promised so far.

BTW What I was talking about in that other thread was that a person was thinking the game was falsely advertised because the starting safe area moved from a 20km area around the arkship to a seperate moon somewhere in early development (smh).

  17. Just now, joaocordeiro said:

They did not only invested money.

They invested time. Not just time playing the game.

Time testing features (directly at NQ request)

    Time filling up bug reports

Time writing forum topics with feedback, warnings and solutions so NQ could improve DU to the point you can play it.

They did not did this for 2 months. They did it for years. Free of charge. With the only payment being the dream of a great game and the hope that that week's release would run more then 2 horurs.

They have the right to ask for accountability from NQ. If asking for accountability is being toxic. Then the entire justice system and the entire journalism of this planet is toxic.

Also. I would like for you to apologize for using "shit stain".

you can still ask for accountability without being toxic, you know.

and no I won't. shit stain is a pretty accurate allegory.
