  1. The I.B.O is looking to start talks with any and all organizations planning to build a starting city/metropolis inside the starting zone in hopes we as a community can come together and build something coordinated and spectacular to leave a lasting impression in DU for all new players to come. Please contact me if you have ideas, plans or wish to get involved in some way. I imagine it will not be an easy task at the start and we will need to come together. It will be a great way to learn and understand the scope of such tasks and what will be required for when you go at it alone.
  2. to be clear .. The Intergalactic Banking Organization would never, and I quote "sell their own mothers into slavery for substantial profits" or indeed conduct or condone any form of slave trading. But instead conduct fair and open business in the interests of prosperity and economic growth throughout the universe. Although of course, we wish you the best of luck.
  3. Because apparently their are no such things as pet space dragons twould seem though that they have not gone for a dog either, but instead something smaller and less comparable to anything we would have as a common pet in RL
  4. I feel it also adds to the emergent game play, as smaller orgz band together to form a bigger organization with its own political structures while still being individual and able to run their own operations. organizations can be whatever you want them to be. I like the fact you can have your own organization and be part of another.
  5. I think I read or listened to an interview with JC, very early on to me discovering DU, where he did confirm that their was a plan to make organizations invisible. Pretty sure he also said it would not be available for a while .. so probably beta or later I would imagine. As to whether or not that has changed or will change I can't answer. But It certainly was something he mentioned.
  6. it certainly gives a new avenue for organization advertisement
  7. Nice work I hope to see many more members in the coming future
  8. I just want everyone to be sure about what they are signing up for before they join alpha and start to give the game a bad name when its not what they are expecting. It shouldn't be about carrying things over, to be honest we can do all of that in beta. Also as to how much of the game is even going to be ready is unknown. It may not be that we can do much in alpha compared to beta. They need to test a lot of things.
  9. Firstly, yes, yes alpha is about finding bugs for beta .. The devs have said enough times now that alpha is not "Game play" you are thinking and referring to beta. Secondly, who may I ask would own these cities? Having players who can build market blueprints have a huge economical advantage over new players do they not? I am in alpha myself and I don't want anything kept over from it.
  10. And who, may I ask would own this city?? as obviously those who keep the blueprints then own the markets and indeed the economy.
  11. also alpha is not about making blueprints, its about finding bugs for closed beta . alpha is not going to be a way to play the game, it is very much the unfinished game, and thinking it is going to be anything else may ruin it for you. Please do not think alpha is going to be anything like what the game on launch will be, you should not opt in to alpha unless you are 100% committed to just making the game playable
  12. I hope we are all on the same page here, that this stock market, is going to be in game, using in game money, player made, and will run on unconfirmed mechanics. yammas post can be a little confusing, but he is just basically asking the devs if they wish to use a pre made platform that would run like a real stock market would. This would allow us, the players to have a real stock exchange in game (where no irl money was made just in game money and resources) that would help to hold organizations responsible for paying their dividends ect. Please correct me if I am wrong yamma. It is up to us how we choose to run the stock market, if at all. And it depends on mechanics yet to be confirmed like most of the financial services within the game.
  13. ahh I see The confusion here is that stock prices are not set by how much a company earns as such, but actually by supply and demand. The initial stock will be based on such things as gross profit, forecast growth, % of company offered and how much the company wishes to raise, this is done by investment bankers and a few other financial specialists. Once trading starts, share prices are largely determined by the forces of supply and demand . A company that demonstrates long-term earnings potential may attract more buyers, thereby enjoying an increase in share prices. A company with a poor outlook, on the other hand, may attract more sellers than buyers, which can result in lower prices. In general, prices rise during periods of increased demand - when there are more buyers than sellers. Prices fall during periods of increased supply - when there are more sellers than buyers. A continuous rise in prices is known as an uptrend, and a continuous drop in prices in called a downtrend. Usually what will happen to promote trade or "volume" is that the company will release its shares at a discount before its official market release. Then once stocks go into the market a large portion have been bought to encourage sellers. Dividends obviously work in a different way and are subject to profits, and many investors will look to find companies that pay a high dividend. In your case we would need to find a way to get accurate data and yes hold them into account for paying their dividend, however just because you don't receive a dividend doesn't mean you cannot still profit from your shares. As mentioned though, how we choose to run the stock market could be different and I welcome any who wish to discuss it. We can set our own practices for the stock exchange provided that they are fair, open and will work. Let this be the first community political debate we set in motion for our future in DU.
  14. I think you should remember that, when a company places its shares on the market .. It may not be placing its entire company, but only 20% So if you own all of those shares, you only own 20% of that company. Not every company pays dividends as well so remember this when conducting your brokering, offering dividends is a good way to increase your volume but not essential if your shares are forecast to raise in value as people will trade them anyway if they feel they stand to make profit from re sale.
  15. It is certainly something I would like to have a discussion about with players who are interested in such a thing to see if we can start to work out a way to implement such a system. I think almost all financial aspects of the game are waiting on how detailed, thought out and extensive the tagging/powers mechanics are, but if enough of us come together we could make it work. Something we will have to wait for as more is revealed about these mechanics.
  16. in short, A stock or share is buying a part of the company. Companies do this to raise money. Some companies pay dividend to share holders from their profits, whist usually people will buy shares as they believe that the shares will increase in value over time. When you buy shares of a company, you own a piece of that company and therefore have a vote in how it is run. While there are different classes of shares (a company can issue shares more than once), typically owning shares gives you voting rights equal to the number of shares you own. Shareholders as a whole, based on their individual votes, select a Board of Directors and can vote on major decisions the company is making. As to how this may work in game will depend on several things, However it may be that when companies set to start their really ambitious projects they may need to raise funds and selling shares in their organization may be a way to do it. It would require a player run stock exchange which we do not know as of yet if mechanics for this will be possible as well as many other mechanics yet to be confirmed. It may be possible to do without mechanics, but would require a lot of effort player side initially to run. If some one who owns a high number of shares stops playing .. this may effect what is called volume. Volume is how many shares change hands in a day, A stock that has lots of daily volume is attractive to investors because the volume means they can easily buy or sell their shares whenever they please. When some one stops playing who has lots of shares this would probably not really effect much, as once a company has preformed its I.P.O it no longer makes money from its shares.
  17. I try and maintain transparency that the I.B.O is subject to mechanics that are yet to be confirmed and that it may have to change and adapt as we get closer to the game itself.
  18. Hey guys, Kick starter is nearly half way funded woo!!! But i just wanted to make a post to thank the Devs for their tireless work responding to all those questions and putting in so much time to the community. They really do deserve a thank you from us all for their effort, hard work and transparency!! You guys are awesome and I for one really appreciate everything you are doing!!
  19. At the moment, the Devs have mentioned things called permissions and powers, that effect many things withing the Dual universe (Buildings, territories, constructs and such) It was stated by them in past interviews that players may be able to set tags within these .. such as to pay rent or x amount and such which is most likely how the creditor will be able to grantee itself against the debtor. However as stated, these mechanics are still under work and until confirmed, their is no clear answer on this. It is also stated in the homepage .. under the economy section that "players can start their own banks" so it is clearly something the team have thought of. We are slowly trying to get the answers but of course .. it will not be until nearer the games launch that we can be certain of how this will work . and how we will have to adapt to operate such services.
  20. I know, I just thought it would be cool In terms of resource and ground destruction ect .. The Devs have said that they plan to monitor the situation as obviously in say 6 months time after release the starting area looks awful and uninviting .. they may regenerate the area of the safe zone if needed .. As for the way the planning will be .. i doubt that can really be answered .. It will depend heavily on the influencing powers at that time and how they want to build the area, as well as game mechanics and permissions .. but the community will very likely need to work together and because of that I imagine much will be established their from many organizations! Many plans and ideas are already developing and it will be really interesting to see what turns out. I for one am very excited! I think it will most likely be one of the first community driven projects to build up the ark ship zone if it is possible.
  21. The I.B.O welcomes Bluekey to the Board of legates and hopes he helps see our vision of a prosperous future for the dual community become a reality.
