  1. Thanks for referring me to this! Its very close to what I had in mind.

A couple of things that I think the design can be improved on:

    1. Hexagonal division into the territories: I can't think of any technical limitations or otherwise requirement to pre-divide the planet into territories. Why not let players select where they want to create their territory and then give them either a circle or a hexagon radius from that spot?

    2. "Arkification"- no matter how rare or hard it will be to "Arkify" your territory, this feature will break the balance of the game. Eventually every territory will be claimed and eventually all of them will be Arkified and there will be no more geopolitical interaction.

Overall looks like my thoughts lined up with what the project lead had in mind although I think they should make RDMS a bit granular so that the management system does not only consist of Org to Org relations/permissions, but rather can be managed on per-player bases sometimes. E.g. I may not be in any Org but I'd like to become a "citizen" of a city belonging to an Org. By granting me the "citizen" title I can keep my non-affiliated status and NOT be a member of org, but still have some rights within that city.

I think there will be some way to destroy arkificated things or the arkification thingy will be so expensive that it will require 100000 hours to obtain.

  2. The issue with VOIP is that it will take time away from the development of the game, plus the implementation of it will be extremely difficult to do if it spans over an entire universe - it would actually cause much more problems with how they have the game setup to save memory and space.

    Its not very difficult actually.

Its like the sound of your steps expect you have to send the sound trought the server

  3. If a player makes a ship and kills X amount of other players in that ship, there must be some automated way of keeping track of your kill count. Once that number is reach you get the option to rename your ship 'millenium falcon or enterprise' whatever, makes it unique.  you get 1% off repair cost/resource gain etc,  per player killed after reaching the kill count up to a maximum to keep it sane.

If you don't want to take part in it then don't rename your ship, once its renamed that specific ship will always be known as that until it's destroyed. Once that ships destroyed the ship is gone along with the title.  The player that killed you, gets a perk to his own kill count because he killed a named ship, even if they didnt know it was a named ship, just get an alert on the kill saying it was.

Someone trying to max out their bonus or gain a title maybe more careful with their ship in combat as a result and combat wouldn't just be a flat out deathmatch.

Or even mingle these reknown ships with the game lore. Whatevers the most fun.

Sounds interresting but i think there wont be a global system for naming. But if you want to you will be available to paint the name on your ship.

Kill count would be a really good feature.

  4. Yeah, I know, Star Wars style, but still, it isn't worth it as a strain test on the server, as the hologram would have to be an NPC "clone" of the player with a blue translucent hue of a texture. NPCs cost the server :P

Perhaps. But a normal TV would be good at least.

  5. First.

Second, names will only be shown on tabbing a person in your crosshairs. An arbitrary title is arbitraray, UNLESS, the devs do the Lineage 2 thign, where an organisation of a certain status had the ability to assign titles to its members. That could be cool, having your organisation's rank show up in public uppon being tagged by others.

For example, a lieutenant would need to have the visual distinction of lieutenant in their names, while a private would have the Pvt. infront.

It's a good idea this way, but having titles that the game throws arbitrarily is silly. Who decides your status? The magic government that doesn't police anything? :P

Perhaps a faction can brand a player the same way I suggested above. Like, having "Outlaw" in front of a player's name the organisation has black-listed. I don't know, whatever :P

He talked about naming invidual ships and he said nothing about player names.

I don't know if they plan to let us name the schematics we make or to name our ships.

But what about some sort of fame system for the ships. Kill X amount of ships and you unlock the option to give THAT ship a unique name, survive X amount of attacks, win X amount of Duels etc.

Possibly a set of pre-defined titles that have positive and negative alignments depending on your actions.  Have the titles show when your near the ships if you want epeen, although that would probably just flag you to be attacked.  The problem with player choice maybe that there would be some ridiculous names.

Then some sort of risk/reward for keeping that ship, example, kill 10 and you get 10% of the cost of repairs or something, kill 20 you get 20% off etc up to a maximum.

Then if someone kills that ship, the name is lost and goes into some hall of fame on a forum or in game.  You could use the list of names to see which names are available to use again or make them 1 time use on the server only.

Killing a named ship could also offer rewards, maybe it counts as 2 kills towards your own ships title or your next repair gets whatever % off depending on the ships notoriety level.

Someone might want to collect named ships as a hobby or some Organizations could use it as a requirement for certain ranks, or.....

    Basically everything will be player-driven.

Somebody will have to keep track of the ship names and such plus players has to do the hall of fame.

  6. Some kind of motion c

Why would you need a hologram for a message, in-game?

Some holograms have been confirmed in the form of a map on the planet below,
    link here. .

Although, I can't see the meaning of a hologram for recruitment. Just have a bullet-in ad in the game, the devs plan for such a thing.

He means motion capture i think. You record a footage then play it as a holographic video

  7. Lets consider a hypothetical situation where you are doing a "off-the-record" operation, where the mission demands you to not give away your identity, maybe you are stealing important information, maybe destroying enemy's resources or whatever it is that you are doing but when you engage in combat or if anybody sees you, you are essentially identified and it takes away all the excitement from such missions cause then there is no need to do that if you are easily identified.

What I think the best solution would be to have a personal ID for everyone which you can give access to whom you wish, the ID will contain basic information of a player like name, guild, base planet or whatever and even there is an option of customizing that ID to give limited information away, so unless you have given access to someone who has not seen your ID, you are essentially an unknown person to them where nothing about you is known to them, I mean I think according to me that would be a real sort of immersion that I would love in a game and give a whole new field to play when it comes to military operations.

    So true.

  8. Death without penalty is meaningless so it would be cool to get some long lasting effect on death. Ideas below.

Resurrection timer: after 3 deaths you would have to wait 60 minutes or so. of course you could play an alt character until.

Skill penalty: i think i dont have to explain this

changed appearance: i mean scars and such things

  9. Without gameplay mechanics a pub or a bar is pretty pointless in a video game. Star Wars Galaxies used buffs from music, dance, or any other entertainment to solve this. Because this the bars were crowded. They were good places to take a breather. I hope this system will make its way to DU.

  10. Scripts will be written by ourselves, so it means its yourself that will let opened doors into your script for interaction with your scripted object. this could be done probably by chat commands, buttons and others. but if you are not carefull when writting those scripts and dont alloy the right permissions, yes some other people might be able to interact with your objects.

I wont be like in other games like DeusEx, Metal gear solid, where u just play a mini game within the game and if you success it will hack it, its gonna be trickier. start learning LUA from now

yes i know. i learned c++ a while ago and used lua in the making of a mod long ago.

  11. I hope large scale industry will be able to harm the ecosystem of a planet. This mechanic would be able to hold back players from building huge industrial complexes. But i know a lot of players completely ignores the look of the landscape so there should be negative effects on Industrial wastelands like toxic air, undrinkable water, no food source ect. This would lead to a Galactic Greenpeace faction on the other hand.

What do you think about this topic?

  12. The devs said that we will be able to program things in Lua(Programming Language). It could mean there will be simulated computer OSs,

Networks and other things. I like the idea of being able to hack an enemy ship or machine.

  13. we are tagged, we have cerebral implants in our heads to download skills from the Arkship's datacore. It stands to logic lore-wise. Although, there should be an ability to "hide" your name from popping, or even use "stealth hacking" to alter the name entirely, unless someone else got a counter-play to that and tags you with a skill that drops the "illusion" so to speak.

Also, the ability to hide is not an issue. The Devs can make the mouseover work only in close distances and requiring you to use a scoped weapo n to tag a target at further diistances, as you would, since the last time I checked you couldn't see 1,000 meters away with a x1 scope on an SMG :P So, there's the sniper aspect of the game, a guy who can see you but you can't see him, not until they hit you that is. Just pop a minimap indicator on the HUD to show you were you are being hit from, no?

But in any case, what Yama said stands true in my opinion. Names should be displayed only when you initiate "locking" on someone for combat, or scanining them actively for their name, so cities won't be having a permanet green glow aoove player-height :P

Then it would be cool to mess with the implant like hacking or removing the entire thing.

  14. LOL

well, theres facial recognition software for a start.

that doesnt need any implants or cooperation from the person to be identified.

you dont have to know the person yourself for your implants/computer systems to identify him/her.

(note: im not advocating general "i know everyone" behaviour. im just pointing out logical details)

But if there is plastic surgery then then a software won't recognise you from look.

  15. I think stealth would be cool in a game like this and i have a few ideas about it.

Identity theft: It would be cool to disguise yourself as somebody else. Explame: I kill a guy then i scan his corpse and by some technology i change my apprearance to match his.

Stealth: i think an invisibility suit or something would be great.

Plastic Surgery: it would be useful if you are wanted in a faction. of course this has to be expensive
