  1. I just hope what happens on long lived multiplayer minecraft servers that the spawn area becomes a strip mined wasteland or an abandoned city of derelict houses doesn't happen to DU.

I would imagine the closer areas would dissappear pretty rapidly, it makes you wonder what will happen further down the line, Perhaps the game could evolve into DU:The Thrid Age, Alioth is on the verge of destruction thanks to the human presence, so we built these big Arkships to escape...

    Ah the cycle of life.

  2. Sorry if it's a repeat thread, couldn't find anything on it though.

Building in hostile places could be a fun challenge, you would need specialized equipment/vehicle mods dependant on the hazard; pressure, toxicity, temperature, mobility etc if they end up in the game ofc.  More for the crafters to do.

It could be a viable way to hide something or defend it, a base or ship.

**Thinks** Blackhole movie...  Giant ship moored at the edge of the blackhole...

...will blackholes be a thing for that matter?

  3. I asked in another thread if our Solar system survived the Nova. The general theory on that is that it didn't but the conspiracies are simmering away, there is a possibility planets survived but were swept off their orbits and scattered.

Presumably if we had the technology to make the Arkships we would have had some experience at colonising planets alot closer to earth in order to experiment and develop the life-support/ propulsion tech the Arks would be using.

So you potentially have a colony of humans either adrift on a displaced planet or stranded on an Alien world as their homeworld is gone.

After 10 thousand years, if this colony manages to survive it would have evolved and to us would probably appear to be Alien.  So I guess even if there aren't going to be any 'aliens' of a different species there could at least be a different type of humanoid.

Ofc watch Einstein get involved now and mess up the whole time/space part of this theory <_<

  4. I like the idea of Stargates.

What would a fully established network of stargates mean for a new player? Being able to jump to anywhere players have reached so far, some may like it but others might not as it may take away from the intended exploration side of the game.

Presumably then, an Organization would control the access to the gate system in which case they would have to have been constructed? In which case all of the gates will need an Arkification token? or they maybe be attackable by opposing orgs/ pirates or gate hijackers redirecting you to dangerous places.  This would be a hard network to maintain once you get further and further.  Hmm, tbh this could be fun...

On the multiple jump boredom issue, you could potentially just have the tech to dial in the nearest gate to your destination A la Stargate Sg-1? That may remove some of the sense of scale though.  Hmm

How about asome sort of gate generator tech for your ship to open rip between you and your target for an instant jump.  Then allow us to 'hide' marker tech on any planet/moon/asteroid and edit the arrival point within X distance of the marker.  Then you could have an industry churning out these high tech drives, bigger ships-bigger drives. It wouldnt be open to everyone and it isn't impossible for anyone.  Orgs could have their own databases of jump points, share some hide others etc.

  5. This always creates a load of forum threads as soon as a server/shard goes down.  With so many different time zones being on the game at once picking a time to go offline will be a sensitive issue.  More so around the time new content is introduced as some countries are going to be asleep when it goes live.

How long do you think server maintenance on a shard of this scale will take once it's a live game, and how often will they be needed?

I know we're a long way off worrying about this but it will come up sooner or later.

  6. - Different types of teleporting pads/gateways with different visual effects and sounds.

    - A music system that will play music from the players library.

    - Battlescarred elements, or just the battle scars.

    - Neon Signs.(or a neon paint for player created signs).

    - Npc 'extras' as you would get in a film. Ability to give them basic pathing routes and animations/themes. (Beggar, drunk, security, shopper etc).

    - Tv screens with various videos on, don't know if you could get them to show youtube vids.(on/off function).

    - Roads/pathway surfaces.(thats probably just paint).

I would like to see invisible......

    hehe.

  7. UO had player vendors too. This was a great part of the game for me.  Some players making grand markets with lots of vendors, not all their own too, they would rent out vendor spots to others as they were in a good location for visitors.  It really added color to the game and had players scattered all over instead of massed at one central sale point.

Ofc having both would be neat, players could control who actually buys their stuff, wouildn't want to help out the enemy so a fall back would be the central hub.

  8. Any plans to put in a concave tool?  On the crafting video triangles were used to fill in the gaps at the front of the cockpit. Just wondering if you could achieve the same effect by chopping the base voxel with a concave tool.

    http://www.ign.com/videos/2016/09/01/dual-universe-first-look-at-crafting-gameplay

Also near the start when the voxel was edited with the ball shape  it left an obscure shaped piece near the core. Would that piece be movable/rotateable and able to join other pieces?  Effectively letting us design our own elements I guess?

Sorry if it's a daft question I don't know the limitations or what's already in.

  9. If a player makes a ship and kills X amount of other players in that ship, there must be some automated way of keeping track of your kill count. Once that number is reach you get the option to rename your ship 'millenium falcon or enterprise' whatever, makes it unique.  you get 1% off repair cost/resource gain etc,  per player killed after reaching the kill count up to a maximum to keep it sane.

If you don't want to take part in it then don't rename your ship, once its renamed that specific ship will always be known as that until it's destroyed. Once that ships destroyed the ship is gone along with the title.  The player that killed you, gets a perk to his own kill count because he killed a named ship, even if they didnt know it was a named ship, just get an alert on the kill saying it was.

Someone trying to max out their bonus or gain a title maybe more careful with their ship in combat as a result and combat wouldn't just be a flat out deathmatch.

Or even mingle these reknown ships with the game lore. Whatevers the most fun.

  10. Stop comparing ideas to wow, your obsessed with that game. This isnt a wow idea. It's an idea to add activities to the game. If you don't like it then don't take part as in other sandbox mmo's.  The names don't have to show, as I said 'show them if you want the Epeen, although that would make you a target', some players do like that sort of thing, its a choice. It could just be something that runs in the background for other players, encouraging pvp, trading and crafting.

The equivalent in Wow would be getting a title for your horse.

  11. I don't know if they plan to let us name the schematics we make or to name our ships.

But what about some sort of fame system for the ships. Kill X amount of ships and you unlock the option to give THAT ship a unique name, survive X amount of attacks, win X amount of Duels etc.

Possibly a set of pre-defined titles that have positive and negative alignments depending on your actions.  Have the titles show when your near the ships if you want epeen, although that would probably just flag you to be attacked.  The problem with player choice maybe that there would be some ridiculous names.

Then some sort of risk/reward for keeping that ship, example, kill 10 and you get 10% of the cost of repairs or something, kill 20 you get 20% off etc up to a maximum.

Then if someone kills that ship, the name is lost and goes into some hall of fame on a forum or in game.  You could use the list of names to see which names are available to use again or make them 1 time use on the server only.

Killing a named ship could also offer rewards, maybe it counts as 2 kills towards your own ships title or your next repair gets whatever % off depending on the ships notoriety level.

Someone might want to collect named ships as a hobby or some Organizations could use it as a requirement for certain ranks, or.....
