Currently, there is no plan to enable players to create their own currency, for several reasons:

    - Risk of imbalance: If there is something that needs to be stable for a sandbox game, this is the in-game economy.

    - Development priority: Many features are quite long to develop (even the basic ones). And as this type of game mechanics implies a complex game design behind it in order to work well, it would cost a lot of development time. And for now, it's far from being in priorities

    - Fun to play: We are not entirely convinced that enabling players to create their own money would be fun on the long run, nor really very easy to understand and master for most of the players (look how the economy in real life is complexified just by that). While we don't want to go "mainstream" in the game design of Dual Universe, we don't want either to go for a game that will only appeal to a very small population of players. We also need numbers to create a MMORPG full of player-driven stories!   ;)

Again for the record, players cannot create their own currencies in DU. There will be a universal currency from the beginning that everyone will use.

  2. I think everyone here is missing the topic.

    DUK - Distributed Universal Kredits

    UTU - Universal Trading Units

    ASK - Autonomous Space Kredits

These are obviously not what you would see in game, but hopefully something that steers this thread back on course  :D

    Or you know.

    Just "Shmeckles".

LOL I love that response, it hurts my brain trying to imagine what those ships would look like but i applaud your bold choice

Those are slick looking, i've never seen that game before... *adds to watch list waits for steam sale* :)

Easily my all time favorite RTS space game. absolutely phenomenal, and the mod community is great too. I highly recommend it.

  4. This has been done for the past decade and longer.

It's called Alpha and Beta testing, where users are invited either by paying to get in, or chosen out of random.

Many games then open a separate server generally referred to as a Public Testing Server/Realm. Here, players can test future additions to the game before it hits the live server, but anyone can join the PTS/PTR to help out.

If this is what you're talking about, then fret not because an Alpha/Beta test phase is in the works for Dual Universe. Unsure on the PTR/PTS however.

I believe the very talented team behind DU is more than capable of creating exciting and emergent gameplay to keep players invested well beyond their first few hours of the game with early-game activities and tutorials that do not pale in comparison to spaceflight, so as to not have leaving the planet be the only 'fun' thing to do in this game.

Gotta have those "shock and awe" moments within that first hour or two to grip the player. So I agree with this statement 100%.

  6. This is wonderful idea! Maybe @CharlesAugustus will rather compile such storybook from other players novels, and with player-made illustrations rather than write whole book by himself? We can do it as mini-comptetion, maybe with help of @NQ-Nyzaltar.

Eve Community did something similiar, with good result.

This would be a fun community project for those who like to write. I would be on board for sure!

  7. And then a guy like me nukes your pirate haven, because pirate havens are the best things to nuke. I mean, I will be offering you the chance to explore and travel as you helplessly try to outrun the long arm of the nuclear warhead heading for you. And you know, there's no such thing as honor among thieves. For the right price anyone will out you to the proper authorities ^^

You clearly missed the part about my space sharks.

Space sharks beat nukes any day.

  8. No official name yet, but unless I missed something, there will be a standard currency.

  9. I've wanted to do some DU short stories, but I simply do not enough about the setting just yet really.

That said, I can see some short stories combined in to a novel depicting different peoples perspectives before the Ark ships were launched from Earth. The rich, the poor, the smart, and dumb all clamoring to give their family some hope for the future (Or something like that.)

    Anyways, good luck buddy!

  10. No Mans Sky encourages exploring and never staying in one spot for too long.

Dual Universe encourages building, and finding a location to call your own. While it does encourage some exploration, that isn't the primary focus.

That said, I am itching to play No Mans Sky. Why can't it come out sooner. :(
