Does EVE have idle items decay?

Who would see the most impact if this was implemented?

In my view, lone players with low resources would suffer allot.

Casual players would login into the game at weekends to spend 1-2 hours repairing their ship. What a nice "welcome back" dont you think?

So why would NQ implement a pain creating feature that further alienates lone and casual players? Do you think we dont need those players?

Why would they be logging in to repair their ships?  Its only items used or requiring repair would have a reduced HP overall.  Define casual player?  Player logs in for a few hours a week?.  In eve you have PvE so people lose their ships to the environment or PvP in DU there is no 'environment or NPC's'  you cannot compare.

I wish ppl would stop proposing ideas that create more pain to players.

The inflow of ore was fixed in day one of beta. With NPCs buying ore.

Some ppl with no experience in economy pressured NQ to remove it.

The fix is to admit it was needed. Not to add more pain to an already painfull game....

So elements that just last for ever in a space trading, building game is logical?  I understand why in PVE elements dont fully lose lives due to the bug's at the moment but in a decent MMO sandbox MMO items degrade thus need replacement and the repair unit can faciltate that.  It just means you'd have to hit the market to buy some replacement parts every so often.

Elements already take damage.  and we already spend ore, in the form of scrap, to repair them.  What would be the point in requiring us to actually remove an element and replace it with a new one?

Simple really.  Industry makes product, product is used to make components to replace broken items, thus a market will exist and an economy over mining only.  Its what is in many games.  If you wanted to be an industralist you could in theory.   Even those flying around on Alioth would eventually have a degraded component needing a replacement.

  4.

With the massive influx of ore (JK we know it isnt and will be less) I do wonder if NQ will ever do a 'decay' where repairing reduces the overall element HP till it eventually break's over the 'lives' concept.  To me with use of items decay may work and thus a supply of components to replace would be needed.  (repair units can come into play more then).   Previous MMO's did that concept and worked well (Star Wars Galaxies)

  5. After cycling through a lot of scans I've noticed a theme.  So previously (I'll use Ion) most hexes contained Silver and 60-70% contained some Rhondite.

PTS shows yes Silver is present 200l per hour (so one scoop hehe) but literally no tiles contained Rhondite on my scans at least.  Is NQ basically pushing the narrative 'if you want high tier ore you need to go to asteroids and PvP' thus a sneaky way to avoid having to remove safezones overall?  It certainly seems that way for higher tier ore.

Still we got to remember as a miner you could mine a lot per day.  Now your limited to mining unit and/or going to PvP for it.  With PvP so broken still and also dominated by a group of people maybe you just need to come out with that narrative ?

  6. Agreed with your points.

In addition the need for a different mining unit per tier of ore is also crazy and again a massive time and money sink.  If it's to push people to PvP (which is broken) then say so !.  But why make things so complex and just have one unit that can be placed anywhere.

Secondly on asteroids if a roid is discovered but not broadcast then remove the ability for someone who already completes to phase 4 to just jump the person who lands on the roif.  I think originally it was supposed to be a timer until your 'found' via a broadcast.  At least thst gives people sometime to mine ;).

Airbrake changes no no and no.  Most my constructs are booked why change it now ?

Lastly voxel changes for complex voxels so back to boring boxes? Seems you can hit thst number quickly.

Come on NQ think hard on this one.

  7.

Lets look at some of the basics.  Ore generation is tiny compared to what it was.  You could easily mine 100KL in less than an hour of T1 now this will take days.  I know you can have multiple territories but even with talents this idea of auto-miners will see you being pushed to asteroids for the ore fix.  Ore inflation is already at crazy highs and to be honest its shame even from previous feedback NQ just ignored it and carried on.

PvP is still broken unless by some magic you fixed the issues already highlighted?

Airbrake changes not sure who knew this change was coming (I didnt) but so many constructs broken!.  Sadly you need loads for large ships to be viable so either make them more powerful to make them viable or look to otherways otherwise you'll end up with ugly ships again :)

Taxes - dont mind it but cost is high especially if your solo, who does this benefit?

Scans - Delete them render them useless then everyones equal.  Yea I got over 2k scans..... i'll be a sad panda but seems more fair.

There is more than balance issue NQ needs to fix- the underlaying network code and client side of PVP needs a complete overhaul.

Let me explain why:  As it stands, your FPS dictates your max speed in flight- and if you have any sorts of lag your ship will burn more fuel, and be slower doing it. Literally- Max Speed in DU is dictated by your frames per second, haulers going max speed can be more easily caught up to because their 29,999kph is not the same as a nano-ship flying at it due to frame lag. This also plays into laggy L core ships, and their fuel consumption/sluggishness. Have extensively tested this, its disgusting...

If you open/close your map really quickly over and over you can lag out your client, and because your client is responsible for your ships physics and "state" you stop taking damage and stop moving while this happens.

and don't get me started on client side game "hacks/cheats" since EQ8 is easy to bypass with a bit of noodling, and with the game giving authority to the client- lots of baaaaaaad stuff can and will happen if this game ever gains popularity, I don't know if NQ even has the tools in place to check server side from what I gather. Every online PVP game has to deal with this issue, and I don't think it's even on NQ's radar.

DU's PVP is broken, like quite literally- on the technical side. With them pushing it more and more and forcing players into it, without doing the work to make it work right... is extremely concerning and WILL bite them in the butt, if not already is as most that get into PVP at a serious level see how broken it can be and are turned off by it. Could write an entire breakdown/paper on how bad it is- what's mentioned here is only the tip of the iceberg.

If NQ can fix these issues, and balance PVP a bit- I'd quite enjoy getting into it more.

What our fine Lady said.  NQ take note.

The Demeter podcast really broke the mold for the game.. It shows that NQ has no way to actually fix the game and boils down to:

    We have no more money

The cost of running the game is too much for us to afford

So we are going to butcher the game mechanics to cust cost

    We're starting with mining

Which will now be a completely fictional mechanic, there is nothing actually in the world, it is just a mini game run on your client, we just change a number in the database.

The planet reset will be fun, the "solution" they have for digging out is a joke, it will just cut out the construct cube volume so you will end up with floating constructs .. It's a solution designed to not be used while at the same time being a "but we're here to help" excuse.

The mining unit and territory upkeep solution is a direct result of terrible game design. they are just slapping "taxes" on it. Had they built in power management like many of us suggested going back.. 4 years ago.. it would have been .. a game..

Its another missed opportunity to release a soft power management system into the game where it requires fuel etc to make it work/function etc.  I had hope with shields they would have introduced it but sadly I was wrong!  Now again nothing so I dont know and dont think there ever will be any power systems.

  10. Steam early access. However people are right it needs stuff to do in game and not buggy.  If you recall they are revamping the new player experience in another update soon on the roadmap.  Perhaps it is one way they'll be looking at it? Or maybe they are looking to do a free trial (very restricted i.e time limited or VR restricted to avoid alts for missions)

I get what your saying tho

You mean larger ships will be easier to hit then smaller ships? and smaller ships will be harder to hit then larger ships? what?

Exactly but sadly due to core sizes your making tiny ships on an L core to access the heavy hitting weapons but its acting like a much smaller core in reality due to cross section :) its a mess.

There's like five people who got rich from exploits.  A wipe would make a very vocal minority (of the already limited number of people who still play) happy, and the rest would leave.  It's basically a big middle finger to everyone who has put in the time and effort since the beginning of beta to build wealth.  Doing a quanta-only wipe would be even worse.  I've made money by selling ships.  If you wipe the quanta but let them keep the ships, they they basically got them for free, and I (and every other ship seller) gets screwed.

You actually believe 5 people got Rich from expliots?  Far more than that.  I get your point tho.  I dont want a wipe I just want them to do it if they are intended to it sooner than later.  I'm 100% against a wipe but the mere fact they mentioned it has halted some peoples play as they dont want to risk building new stuff in case it is wiped!

    Vicious circle.

  13. I know someone suggested it is against naming policies to name it something it isnt.   A tag would help but it does in a lot of cases say who is shooting you (owner).  I'm afraid Legion are doing this atm and I believe you got hit by Greasie last night.

    Why wipe everything except constructs?

There is no technical requirement to wipe those other things, just the world voxels. So the reason to wipe something else is to make a gameplay reset, maybe for players to have a fresh start with this new set or rules.

So why would NQ leave constructs out of a full wipe meant for a fresh start?

It looks to me that you have tailored this wipe you proposed to you

    r specific needs.

NQ have stated and have slowly come to a conclusion a wipe of some shape will happen.  The mere mention slowly got people to stop playing recently in case they did wipe constructs and blue prints.  I'm against a wipe but NQ did say to remove in part how people obtained vast wealth swiftly via obtaining things via an exploit but equally I'm sure people having 10 alts running missions (not paid alts beta keys) increasing wealth was not an intended gameplay design either.

I'd just prefer if they are going to do something as drastic as a 'reset' better to do it now than a few more months down the line as the uncertainty is harming the game.

  15. Controversial but this also seems a good time to wipe Quanta, Wipe stored ore and start afresh except for constructs (yea wipe all components made too).

Also the different tier mining units just seem again a different stop gap as the ones rich and mineral rich can make them and charge a fortune where as those with far less will struggle.  So the circle continues.

Anyway if you are and thinking of doing a wipe at some point i'd rarther you do it NOW than later!

  16. THE EMPIRE

The Empire is an autocratic organization, the largest organization in Dual Universe. It offers strong values and culture designed to immerse you into a living experience that entices any interest. From the avid PVP player to the builder, farmer and economic parties. No matter your interest the Empire guarantees you a position. We are Prosperous, Formal, Secure and Stable.

We already have a fantastic City on Ailoth as well as many outposts where players can 'settle' and set up a shop, we are working on a space station as well as construction of our haulers and warships.

We are certainly looking for people who really want to get involved.  Dual Universe can be quite complex and we will help you understand what this game can do for your enjoyment.  Of course if you want to get really involved there is always something that you can join in with!  We are now also moving to constructing a large space station as a futureproof project.

We offer new players a small hauler to use temporarily to get you straight into mining as well as a free blueprint to get you started and have members on hand to provide you help and advice in getting yourself set up in Dual Universe

In future we hope to add even more fun events from small ship PVP skirmishes, asteroid mining to hover bike racing!

  17. So we had a good in depth talk on our internal org discord which was heated but certainly productive around building but also PvP.

In the talk its how we have gone full circle on previously XS cores with L weapons (due to cross section) which then got core limited and now we have L cores as 'Nano' to reduce cross section to reduce being hit.  The result saw these builds now reduced to single seat craft gunned but basically thin boxes armed with weapons.  In DU the purpose was to build ships, good looking ships across the board and even multi-crew ships (bypassed as people use dual seater's using alts in GFN).   So yes via perhaps shortsighted game flaw the dev's went this way.

From our people we talked about if cross section was removed but tied to core CCS (Core Stress) already potential limits massive ships so potential could work so any ship could be potentially built to also minimum build sizes on cores hence you build to that core size.

Its totally complex but it was an interesting talk how things are certainly not working right now.  I think fundamentally balancing is an impossible task but throwing half measures is harming the game more than boosting it.  Even more people are logging in less frustrated by the changes.  We need to get it back on track!
