  1. Apples and oranges. FPS issues in the starting zone are a valid concern - because they do not represent the rest of the game. Once you leave the newbie zone, you have far fewer FPS issues. Travel times are not a valid concern. Travel times are a fundamental aspect of DU.
  2. This is a non issue - all the newbie speeders can be turned into planes. Covering 30km at ~400kmh takes about 5 minutes. You can buy a few more engines and push that speeder up to 700km/h. Travel time is a major component of DU just like it was in EVE. Only thing I would change is adding the tutorial step to turn your speeder into a plane.
  3. It makes sense to refine T2+ ores if you are only trying to bring the T2 materials back. If I want just Sodium, I'm going to refine the Natron and bring the pure sodium back while leaving the carbon behind. I'll be able to stuff more pure sodium in my ship. Finally the capacity of many ships is constrained by either volume or weight. So for me, reducing the volume is what I'm going for. I don't care about increasing the weight at all. I get that it breaks fundamental laws of physics - but so do many things in this game like the ability to casually grab hydrogen anywhere. I do think that the current refining 'compacting' the ore at the cost of increasing weight makes sense as a game element - even if it makes no scientific sense.
  4. That is so bizzare to me - I constantly see 60-80% load across 8 cores which is why I am considering going past 16 for the next CPU - but only if it makes sense. Will stick to 16 most likely...
  5. And the same applies to mining in DU. I am not saying it will take thousands of years. But it is not a realistic concern.
  6. Needs: Links need to be able to be color coded. Links need to be able to be named. Direction arrows should be BIG and easily visible. Links should show from what they are linking. Links should be movable Wants: Links to bottlenecks should have an indicator. Meaning that by looking at an Assembler the link to the input container that is empty and holding up production should alert. Containers should show what is linked TO them Be able to unhook a link from the view of attached links in the assember/container view Drop down selection of linkable containers in assemblers etc
  7. If you don't have 8+ cores this game will not run as well as you'd want it to. It doesn't matter how may fps you get in other games. DU does not work like other games because voxels. The entire game is just voxel cords and the CPU is tasked with processing them. The game divides this processing across available threads - so you'll see load on all cores. If you don't have enough cores, you are not able to process the data quickly enough. https://software.intel.com/content/www/us/en/develop/blogs/intel-core-i9-processors-reduce-open-world-load-times.html
  8. This is as productive as trying to explain economics to a tree stump - but here we go: You having 300 million does not indicate that it came from login rewards. It doesn't matter that you sold to players. What matters is that the players who sold to bots got money that they spent on your sales - which they undoubtedly did. Bots inject more actively used money into the economy than daily logins because people who are selling to bots do so with the intent to spend that money rather than people who just log in, get their 100k and do nothing with it. Many people get 100k on login have no use for it - YOU yourself are a prime example of that 100k not being injected into the economy. As is any player who simply has no need to buy/sell anything or is building their own stuff out of principle. I do not need that 100k because I am surrounded by crates of everything I need. This is why people in the org aren't going to the market - it's more hassle than going to a container. In fact the case that the ONLY reason you have 300m is entirely because of ore bots is far more realistic than the suggestion that it is due to daily login rewards and people rushing to the market to spend their dole payments. People who are on a set income are far more hesitant to spend that income than those who dump L containers of ore on the market. This isn't a "what I do" vs "what you do" issue; yet you keep seeing it as you vs me and yet keep posting personal insults like links to the Dunning Kruger effect and at the same time take a holier than thou attitude as if 'this forum' is beneath you - while clearly failing to see that the things you complain about apply to you. Good day Sir.
  9. Yes. If you have evidence to the contrary I'd love to see it. I have not bought anything on the market. Most of the people in my org have not bothered to either. Your tone is uncalled for.
  10. You are not considering the velocity of money - https://www.investopedia.com/terms/v/velocity.asp The 100k given to people who log in and do nothing with it isn't actually entering the market in the same way that ore sold to people who constantly interact with the market does. People sell ore to bots to buy things. People who sell things do so to buy things etc - money entered via ore bots will continue to change hands as it's being given to active market players. Money given to players who do not interact with the market isn't really in the economy. It's cash in a mattress.
  11. I am not sure how quanta will be injected into the economy without bots. The 100k a day per account isn't realistic as the only source of quanta.
  12. Sure I am - but not in a mega org and while my primary focus has been industry, sometimes the ore monitor turns red and the mining tool has to come out. Our modest factory can chew through a full L of T1 ore in ~40 minutes. This effectively means that you need 2 people mining full time to keep it flowing.
  13. The issue with threadripper is that it's a downgrade from a 16 core ryzen for most games. The fact that a threadripper and the mobo to go with it costs as much as pretty much a complete system minus a GPU isn't lost on me either. I kinda want to do it costs be damned, but I'm going to feel incredibly dumb when I fire up a CPU that costs as much as a passable car only to see 16 cores used....meaning I could have gotten MORE performance out of a cheaper CPU.
  14. If they landed on you? LOL. If you went out of your way to force a dock I would consider it an exploit. The fact that you can currently interact with non permissioned constructs in that way can't possibly be intended. There are plenty of exploits around current docking mechanics - and that's what they are - exploits.
  15. History shows that the frontier of human civilization is always ripe with lawlessness and brutality. The rise of piracy is an inevitability and in line with the plot.
  16. Really I would be perfectly fine with same ores just MUCH faster to harvest. I'll happily risk my L hauler in pvp space if it takes me 10 minutes to fill vs an hour. Frankly my biggest issue with DU is just how much time I have to sink into mining vs everything else. I will absolutely risk my ship to save time. I would assume others who have run out of things to watch on netflix while mining feel the same way.
  17. It would help with the monotony of mining and the lack of purpose of everything outside the safe zone. There is no sane reason to be in the pvp areas right now. I hope both asteroids and the upcoming exploration mechanics create a reason for the pvp area to exist besides as a noob trap.
  18. Wow you have a highly idealistic view of humanity. It must be nice to have lead such a sheltered life.
  19. They have. They have flat out said that it would take over a year of people mining full time to just clear Alioth. Look this resource thing has been talked about since 2016. Devs have said that they do HAVE the ability to re-seed ore. Either by respawning underground deposits or as fallen ore asteroids. They CAN do this but do not plan to. They plan to expand the universe and add other new sources of ore like asteroids etc. The respawning of resources is absolutely not a real concern for DU.
  20. He said they are able to do so - not so much that would. He seemed more interested in moving the starting zone to a whole new area that is getting the graphics update. Which I guess is how the newbie experience will progress, new ark ships landing on new planets and so on which makes sense to me. Plus the approach of new Ark ships landing on new planets makes a lot more sense than ore magically respawning - I really hate the magic rocks everywhere.
